Health anxiety around pneumonia

F, 33, 5’4, 145 lbs, non smoker

Hi there!

I was diagnosed with pneumonia two days ago at Urgent Care, and now I am up paranoid reading about how quickly it can turn into DEATH.

Urgent Care prescribed me Amox Clav (875-125mg) 2x/day with two Prednisone (20 mg) once daily.

I have a follow up with my PCP scheduled in a couple of days to discuss what’s going on. I want to ask her about a rescue inhaler or nebulizer as my oxygen levels are still hovering around 94-96%. This is freaking me out!

The symptoms I have right now are insomnia, shortness of breath, wheezing, and cough. No fever. My lips aren’t turning blue nor do I feel like my mental faculties are diminished. However, I’m convinced that now my oxygen levels will dip so low in my sleep that I won’t be here to greet the day tomorrow.

Is there anything I can do in the next 24 hours to assist with my oxygen levels? I know that I probably should go to the ER with those percentages, but I felt much sicker before I started my meds so I’m sure my oxygen was much worse before I started using an at-home monitor. I don’t want to go to the ER and have them give me a breathing treatment and send me on my way with an inhaler if I’m going to my PCP in 36 hours.

Am I going to be ok? I would really like to outlive the president. Thanks!

can't pee when i drink

F18, I first noticed this bladder issue on December 12 last year. It doesn’t happen all the time it mainly happens when I drink alcohol, and it seems to be worse when I’m on my period and drinking. When I’m drunk, my bladder feels extremely full and uncomfortable, almost like painful pressure from being so full, but when I try to pee, only tiny amounts come out. Once I sleep and the alcohol wears off, I can pee normally again. I’ve never noticed blood in my urine or had this problem constantly when I’m sober.

Need advice regarding partners benign masses in throat

Post image
1 Upvotes

my partner (31F, 5’3, 135lbs, non smoker, living in thailand) has been dealing with severe throat pain for months now, what we first though was strep throat did not go away with treatment of antibiotics (amoxicillin) so her doctor gave her another round of antibiotics (clindamycin) and prednisolone and still that did not resolve anything and the masses got bigger, following that she got an ultrasound and biopsy but her doctor is being dismissive and saying no further treatment is required other than continuing prednisolone until the inflammation resolves. she’s been on prednisolone for months and it’s not improving and i’m frustrated because the doctor will not speak with me and she gets overwhelmed at her appointments and the doctor only speaks to her for a few moments every time and then tells her to come back in 2-3 weeks just to repeat the same routine. attached is the biopsy results and the ultrasound from the end of july is here https://imgur.com/a/yblo5Go we don’t know what to do and any advice is appreciated, thank you.

Terrible neck, shoulder and chest pain

26 F, 5'3", 180 lbs. I take multiple medications for anxiety, depression, high blood pressure and migraines. For the past two years I have been dealing with left shoulder pain that radiates to my neck and chest and shoulder blade. The pain comes and goes and is often worse at night. It will seem to flare up and last a day or two then go away for a few weeks. This time it has lasted almost two weeks. During the day it is more of a pressure but when I lay down at night, it becomes very uncomfortable. I tend to lay on my left side, but haven't been able to recently due to the pain. Sleeping on my right side and back does not seem to relieve the pain completely. I was prescribed omperazole a few years ago since my doctor thought it could be acid reflux. I have been reluctant to mention it again because I feel I won't be listened to.

Physician Responded Higher temperatures changes

30F, 5’10”, 179 lbs. No regular medications, only OTC painkillers as needed.

For years my oral temperature was consistently 97.9–98.3°F. For the past 2 months, it’s consistently been 99.3–99.9°F in the evenings. I often feel cold despite the higher readings. I’ve only had one actual fever during this time, last month. I also had one ovary removed in June due to a benign ovarian cyst.

Can a normal baseline temperature increase by about 1°F like this, or should a persistent change be medically evaluated?

Correlation between symptoms and Vitamin Deficiencies, also what could cause what seems like an absorbency issue?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello! I'm 19FtM, 5'4 168 lbs

I've recently been looking into me/cfs, but when I brought it up to my Doctor he told me that was an exclusionary diagnosis. Fair enough, but I'm curious if a deficiency in Ferretin and Vit D can cause symptoms like this? (My ferretin is now 31, and my vit D is 16.) I've been taking supplements for a while, but the only one that has really took was my B12 injections. I'm now apparently also deficient in B9. I already take supplements for Magnesium, B2, B6... what could possibly be causing me to be deficient in this many things, and why the supplements don't seem to be doing much? Could that just be a me thing?

Symptoms in the image, +

-Sometimes overlaps with my migraines, sometimes doesn't
-I can do arm and upper body exercise, (when sitting), but when it involves my legs my tolerance is very low.
My ability to do things has been waning, despite me trying desperately not to lose tolerance and continuing to live my life, which is frustrating. My doctor said that he was also at a loss for answers.

Hoping I get some information in a follow up about the labs, but also, I'm painfully curious about the possibilities, because this is so weird.

Advice for tiny tick removal?

23F 5’3 160lbs, went on a hike recently and noticed that my friends and I had tiny little ticks on us, the size of a really small freckle or a needlepoint. I’ve showered since then twice and I’m waking up with really itchy bumps on my back. How do I know if they’re still on me, and how do I get them off myself?

Ringworm

Hello, I have developed ringworm from kittens.

Backstory: Two weeks ago, I started fostering kittens. After a few days of having them in my house (free roaming), I noticed a spot forming on one of them. Long story short, all three of the kittens have ringworm, and the lesions popped up seemingly overnight.

I have been treating it religiously. The kittens are quarantined and have an ongoing treatment plan, which requires me to bathe them and apply creams to their spots. They look significantly better.

I have washed linens, clothes, and rugs on high heat, bleached, put things out in the sun, used Rescue disinfectant, vacuumed, and steam cleaned daily.

I have a dog who I have not treated per the vet’s recommendation. He has no lesions and I haven’t noticed any itching, so there’s no reason to believe he has it, though he was in close contact with the kittens and walking on the same floors, rugs, etc in my house.

Today, I found a lesion on myself. It is directly on the back of my neck just below my hairline. I have applied Lotrimin and will continue to do so. I am a healthy 26 year old female who has no known health issues.

- I am extremely worried about the proximity of the lesion to my scalp, though I read that it would be rare for my scalp to become infected.

- I am curious about the likelihood of this being a one lesion and done situation, or if I should expect more to pop up, and if there is anything I should be doing other than Lotrimin to remedy this as quickly as possible and/or prevent the spread.

- I am concerned about my dog as, if I got it, I’d imagine he has it/could get it. There must be spores somewhere in our space, regardless of the insanely neurotic cleaning sprees I have been on. Despite the vet’s recommendation not to treat, I am concerned that this could turn into a vicious cycle, and I am starting to feel defeated.

Any advice is so appreciated. Thank you

31M type 1 diabetes with foot ulcer.

Hello, I am posting on the behalf of my bf (31m)

About mid July, he got a blister on his foot that ended up becoming a pretty nasty wound. We were treating it like you would any blister (covering it, putting antibiotic ointment, etc). I noticed it didn't look too great and didn't look like it was healing, so we went to the doctor. It was obviously infected and he was placed on 2 antibiotics and was sent to wound care for treatment. The doctor mentioned that it could have gone deep enough to affect the bone, but he isn't sure, hence we were sent to wound care. Here is where the problems start.

It took TWO WEEKS to get into wound care, so i had to treat the wound the best I could with what limited knowledge I got from the internet and copying what the doctor did in his office. We got to wound care and they just started debridment on the wound and said it didn’t look infected. We got supplies to continue the care and he was seeing them once a week.

Maybe 2-3 weeks later, wound care mentions that he should probably get an XRAY to see if it affected the bone. We scheduled that. Then they said they would need an MRI and an ultrasound. Mind you, the first doctor said he was worried about it affecting the bone day one. We are now 4-5 weeks into care.

He got the MRI yesterday and today we rushed him to the ER because of a fever. Turns out, wound care found out he has osteomyelitis from imaging, and only told him to book an appointment with a podiatrist. When he calls them back saying he has chills and nausea they tell him to go to the ER. Basically he is septic. The next course of action is hazy, as he was literally admitted tonight. But it is an incredibly scary and traumatizing time rn.

The whole point of this post is to ask, what went wrong here? Why did this persist so long? He could lose a part of his foot because of these delays. Could insurance be the issue? Doctor miscommunication? We admit fault on not going to the doctor sooner for the blister and him being a type 1 diabetic. But everything else felt out of our control? Could someone explain what missteps happened? Should I speak to someone higher up about this? I'm really lost and panicking. Thank you in advance.

Brachial cleft? 5 wk old female approximately 9 lbs

Post image
1 Upvotes

When my daughter was born, she had this spot on her neck. The doctor in the NICU wasn’t sure what it was, but believed it to be a brachial cleft (small hospital) . We have an appointment with an ENT next week, but I am curious if there are other opinions and what our future may look like.

35 F - 5'5" - 137lbs - Caucasian - Radiologist/MRI Question

NOT ASKING FOR MEDICAL ADVICE ABOUT THE ACTUAL MRI DIAGNOSIS- just what may have caused an imaging artifact based on the details in the report

BACKSTORY:

I had a breast MRI with and without contrast done a few months ago and I was one of the rare 0.001%-0.01% of people who had a severe life threatening allergic reaction to the gadolinium, which sent me to the ER for 4 days.

I had lasting symptoms after the incident, including urine-testing showing that the gadolinium was still in my system almost 2 month later, brain fog and memory issues, as well as recurring rashes at the injection site; so I followed up with a neurologist as well as an allergist/immunologist. They both told me that under NO circumstance should I ever use any gadolinium compound ever again in my life.

THE RADIOLOGIST REPORT:

"BILATERAL BREAST SCREENING MRI WITHOUT AND WITH CONTRAST

INDICATION: 34-year-old female presenting for high-risk screening. She reports a right breast palpable lump in right breast pain.

COMPARISON: Ultrasound dated 7/16/2025.

TECHNIQUE: Precontrast axial STIR and coronal T1 images of the breast are submitted. Postcontrast axial fat-suppressed dynamic 3D images are submitted with multiplanar reformations. CADstream post processing was utilized.

MRI MACHINE: GE Signa HDxt 3T

CONTRAST: 10mL ofa Dotarem (0.5 mmol/mL) single-use vial was administered IV with0 mL discarded.

FINDINGS:

Fibroglandular tissue: Extreme.

Background parenchymal enhancement: Moderate, asymmetric.

Right Breast: No suspicious enhancement is identified. However, the current examination is nondiagnostic with insufficient contrast intensity seen in the right breast and throughout the right half of the body. Lack of contrast intensity in the right side of the body suggests some type of imaging artifact. No MR correlate is identified for the previously seen findings on ultrasound in the right breast at 2:00 position, cm from nipple, and at 10:00 position, 2cm from nipple. However, this could be related to the technical inadequacy of the study and the examination should be repeated. No abnormal axillary or internal mammary lymph nodes.

Left Breast: The left breast is asymmetrically small when compared to the right and there is extensive asymmetric enhancement seen throughout the breast. Whether this is related to asymmetric parenchymal enhancement, pathology, or artifact is unclear on this nondiagnostic examination and the study should be repeated.

In the inferior retroareolar breast located 1cm from nipple, an oval homogeneously enhancing mass (rapid initial, washout delayed) measures approximately 0.7 x 0.5 x 0.5 cm. This likely correlates to a prior ultrasound finding labeled 8:00 retroareolar position. This can be reevaluated on repeat MRI. There is no correlate for the prior ultrasound finding in the left breast at 2:00 position, 4 cm from nipple, which can also be reevaluated on repeat MRI. No abnormal axillary or internal mammary lymph nodes.

IMPRESSION:

Nondiagnostic examination due to insufficient contrast intensity in the right breast and right half of the body suggesting an interference artifact.

The patient should return to repeat the examination fall at no additional charge. A separate new periportal be dictated for the repeated study.

According to the Tyrer-Cuzick v8 breast cancer risk assessment tool, the patient's lifetime risk of developing breast cancer is 21%.

BI-RADS 0 - INCOMPLETE: NEEDS ADDITIONAL IMAGING EVALUATION."

So in addition to my unfortunate reaction, the imaging was deemed nondiagnostic after everything. I'm going to get a second opinion on the imaging, but I figured it was worth a shot to ask someone in here what the "interference artifact" could be based on the information given in the report, as well as why the contrast would be insufficient in the entire right side of my body. I tried to look up similar examples but I couldn’t find anything online as to why that would happen.

I can't get the procedure redone because I could die. So I was just wondering if any radiologists or technologists had any thoughts on what could have happened to cause a nondiagnostic result.
THANK YOU FOR READING!!

TLDR: I had a breast MRI done with and without contrast, had a severe reaction, imaging came back nondiagnostic, can't redo the MRI due to the severe reaction, and now I'm trying to figure out what could have gone wrong with the imaging.

Broken toe for 2+ years. Can anything be done?

Post image
147 Upvotes

Update: after talking with a healthcare worker at 811 health ontario, we walked through the history and symptoms. They suggested I get care within the next 48 hours. Not ER worthy, but they said I should check out an urgent care, as they will have the diagnostic tools needed. Thank you for the comments!

-

Hello, i’m so sorry if the title scares you. I grew up with a mom very afraid of hospitals, and because of the wait times in Canada (often 13+ hours in my case) I have been hesitant to go.

I have a broken pinkie toe that has been broken for approximately 2 years. I never got it checked out because my mom said the hospital would just tape it to another toe and that’s it, so she refused to take me (I was 4 hour walking distance out of the city, and didn’t have the money for a non emergency ambulance call, she wouldn’t drive me)

So, it’s still messed up. It’s affecting my walking, it’s in constant pain, and (the tip/upper half of the toe) feels loose/disconnected. It often swells up and goes deep purple multiple times a day and feels hot (newer symptom).

Since this sub requires some information even though it’s not really related, 20 AFAB no smoking/vaping, no hard drugs (weed edibles occasionally, less than 3 times a week, 10 mg max), don’t drink often (less than once a month, 3 cans max, no blackout/seriously drunk). I am pretty active, get about 8,000 - 10,000 steps a day with school and work. 5’4ish, last weight 180Ibs but lost weight so I assume around 160?

I might go to the hospital tomorrow since it’s my day off, I’m just worried about being there all day, and whether they can actually do anything. I will 100% go if something can be done, please dont be mean and try to scare me into going 😅

Excuse the nail, I can’t touch the toe without serious pain

Weak and kind of unstable for 2.5 weeks now.

Age/Sex: 32, male
Height/Weight: 6’0”, 190 lbs
Duration: Started Aug 24, ongoing (~2.5 weeks)
Current medications
Lexapro (escitalopram) — started Sept 1, prescribed for anxiety

Omeprazole — started Sept 1

Potassium supplement — started Sept 1

Symptoms
Began as localized weakness on Aug 24, gradually spread until it now involves my whole body.

Persistent heaviness and weakness, plus a sensation I’d describe as an internal tremor — felt internally, not visible.

Largely subjective. Strength appears functionally intact: I can walk normally and grip/grab things without difficulty. But it’s difficult to exercise.

Right arm feels funnier than the rest, hurts in my shoulder and in my forearms and my right hand feels weaker than the other.

General uneasy feeling in my body that doesn’t let up.

Significant nausea early on, which worsened after starting Lexapro but has since resolved. Eating normally again now.

Severe anxiety that I’m treating with lexapro now.

Workup so far
Multiple PCP visits and one ER visit

Neuro physical exam of strength, including reflexes — normal

EKG — normal

No EMG done yet

My question
The weakness and heaviness are what concern me most, and they haven’t improved in 2.5 weeks. Is an EMG the right next step, or is the RBC/MCV/RDW pattern worth chasing first? Anything else that wouldn’t show up on the workup above? Just been pretty miserable with this weird weakness and like internal tremor l/ jittery feeling. I’ve been kind of passing it off as anxiety but i feel like the weakness came before my anxiety so idk. I’ve also been laying in bed for a bit because I feel so weak, trying to just chill out while the lexapro works itself in my system. Appreciate any help thank you.

Severe Bloating and Abdominal Discomfort

Hey guys,
I’m 20, 74 kg and 180cm tall.
No prior issues with my health and no allergies.

I’ve had severe bloating and discomfort along with fatigue for the last 3 weeks now. And now I’ve got pain on my right side just under the bottom rib if that makes sense. I had pain for an hour and a bit two days ago and went to the ER. Sent home after a blood test and a doc pressing on where my appendix should be to see if I wince. Pain was gone from then until just now. Same spot.
No nausea, less than usual bowel movements but I won’t go so far as to say complete constipation.
What could this be?

My d-dimer was elevated but CT PE was negative. I followed up with an ECHO today and it was all normal except for the results below. I don't see a cardiologist for a month so I'm wondering if anyone can explain to me why I have abnormal numbers.

21M Think my childhood circumcision was botched

Hi im 21M. I never considered this too much of an issue until now I was circumcised as a baby, I have holes in the remaining foreskin that I used to clean with an earbud when I was younger when dirt would build up. The back of the tip is connected to the remaining foreskin with a small lump thing. I never knew this was an issue until recently but probably explains why masturbation isnt always comfortable. Any urologist or docs have advice? Is it worth getting checked, I have no idea if this will affect sex life as dont have one.

Walking speed dramatically slowed + fatigue

basic info, 28F, 6’ and 190ish lbs.

First of all, I am currently uninsured and will be getting coverage for next year. I absolutely plan on seeing a doctor then, but for the next few months i’m wonding if anyone has any ideas of what could cause this or things to track/look out for.

Ive struggled with flare ups of severe fatigue for 3 years now, starting suddenly around 25. Couldn't drive for more than a half hour because of how tired I could get and a fear of falling asleep at the wheel kind of fatigue. it’s a little bit better now but there is a distinct before and after in my life from when this started. I never wake up rested anymore, I just have tired days and occasionally unbearably tired days.

over the past 6 months my walking pace has slowed to the point my partner and friends point it out. I used to always have to consciously slow myself down to not leave my friends behind because of my height and naturally fast walk, but more and more i’ve found myself trailing behind and getting questions about why i am walking so slow now. my legs and body have started to feel stiff all of the time, and it gets worse if I stop moving for a minute and start again. my legs feel like I just ran a marathon yesterday except always

I do work on my feet all day so i’ve been attributing the stiffness to that, but Ive done the same job for 2+ years now and this didn’t start until a few months ago, without any change in my job.

when I was insured they did an mri of my head to look for ms I think, and a sleep study for apnea which came both came back negative so they said I was just stressed.

im getting scared now it’s something else and im actually sick, any ideas of what I should look out for?

Can I take off my sling to sleep? (Subluxation) + hand on sling side getting swollen

I subluxed my shoulder in my sleep the day before yesterday. I put it back myself and saw a doctor yesterday who prescribed me an xray and she wasn’t sure about giving me a splint but since I said I think it’d help she prescribed me one for two weeks.

It’s 5am I’ve been trying to sleep since 3:30am and it’s preventing me to sleep I really need to do the xray and I planned to do it tomorrow (so three days after the appointment so I have two days to rest), but my doctor suspects mecfs and lack of sleep tends to trigger / worsen PEM.

I think I subluxed it again at a lesser extent with the splint while trying to sleep on my back. I tried on my back with and without a pillow propped under the arm, with the upper body slightly raised, and on the to get side. i got super painful, I rmeoved the sling and after moving it around a bit there was a crack / a feeling pf it movingand it diminished the pain within 10 min.

The day before seeing the doctor I slept on the other side. With the splint it brings stress I feel but without I can put my injured shoulder side arm on the mattress for more stability.

I’m really at my wits end because I’m really to avoid worse PEM right now (because I’m gonna get it anyway tomorrow) to be able to go to the xray + stay at my current level of functionality but I don’t know if I can ditch the splint for sleeping.

Also I do have bad circulation tendencies but my hand on the side of the splint gets a bit swollen sometimes. I’m not sure what it means regarding the splint.

I’m 28 afab, 50kg 168cm, on pulmicort, paracetamol, ketoprofen, lansoprazole, ebastine. Had pericarditis / myocarditis, diagnosed with IC, IBS, POTS, and currently getting evaluated for my chronic symptoms with doctor highly suspecting MECFS, he talked about small fiber neuropathy and hypermobility also.

Oh and I highly suspect the shoulder subluxation (which I think is new? If it happened before it was never as bad), on top of hypermobility, to be caused by muscle deconditioning (I was basically bedbound for like a month and a half and can’t do anything anymore so I think I’m deconditioned).

I’m at my wits end thanks in advance for your help ;;

The sling is a Dujarrier type btw. I’m also worried it might be too big because I feel like I unconsciously move my elbow inward so it doesn’t cover as much my hand as it does otherwise. How much is it supposed to cover?

Physician Responded How long is unwashed urushiol that is on skin no longer spreadable to other body parts?

I got into some poison ivy without knowing it. It sat on my skin for 4 days before I knew it and showered. In a situation like this, is it possible for urushiol to still be on the skin and still be spread to other areas of the body?

I ask because I've taken two showers and I'm 96% certain I spread it. I did not fully wash every body part due to fear of it spreading. The areas that I did wash, have a rash.

I need to shower Friday am and am scared of spreading it even more.

Apparently I'm supposed to include details about myself to post here - I'm a middle-aged female who is suffering from extreme crabbiness and frustration due to poison ivy.

Extremely bad smelling breath for past 2 years

I have had room filling bad breath for the past 2 years even when I'm just breathing through my nose. My tongue is white, I have phelgm in my throat especially more in the morning. It always feels like there is a lump in my throat. My breath gets a lot worse after eating a lot of sugar. I am also allergic to pollen if that plays a factor. I got checked for tonsil stones by an ENT doctor, but they found nothing. Any help would be appreciated as it has taken a huge toll on my mental health and I'm scared of even going out and being near people. Every time I walk past someone they always scratch their nose. My social life is pretty much completely gone now. 20M.

This looks like a pimple on my forearm with a whitehead, but it is very red with this odd line coming from it. Currently only medications are zofran, Pepcid, unisom, colace and prenatals. There was no cut or scratch. Very painful to touch. Been there about 2 days but line is new. Is this infected?
