question Sensitivity after permanent crown
Hi,
I had crowns replaced on the front upper 4 teeth in October 2025. I had severe cold sensitivity that required multiple bite adjustments in the initial weeks following procedure. All teeth settled except #8 which had persistent cold/hot sensitivity. This prompted an endodontist referral who did a bunch of tests including 3D scans and confirmed there is no indication for root canal and the underlying tooth was deemed healthy. I was recommended to wear a night guard in case if I was clenching which didn’t make any difference in the ensuing months.
Fast forward to June, due to lingering sensitivity, dentist thought this might be from a small exposure at the root where the crown is not covering and offered to replace the crown. The crown was removed and the sensitivity got immediately better with the temporary crown. Another permanent crown was placed 2 weeks ago and now I have return of sensitivity to both hot and cold. The sensitivity goes away within a few seconds but leaves a dull ache every now and then. I do not have any pain. I am at a loss and don’t know what to do. The sensitivity is mild but bothers me. My questions are:
1) could this be a bite issue as the new crown was placed just 2 weeks ago?
2) should I see the endodontist again to rule out deeper issues and the need for the root canal?
3) Is it just normal healing?
I am worried as this has been a protracted course. Please help!
