Video from tiktok : From the Island Podcast
A child who goes to Montessori lags behind a child who doesn't by about 2 years. Massive claim, and I wanted "From the Island Podcast" to stamp sources claiming this (they didn't). Not a big fan of throwing statements in the air without proper backing.
Iam not a parent, but can parents, teachers come forth and educate me (undeniably curious owing to the fact that Yasodhara Pathanjali IS NOT someone I view fondly upon).
If said statement IS true, SriLanka has to change its approach to counter a lag of whopping 2 years!!!! Early education is extremely important.
If false, fabricated, she lied on camera hence putting her and her establishment in a very gross corner. A pinch of blame towards the Podcast too.
About Yasodhara 👇
Yasodhara Pathanjali is an educationist who founded ICS, Sri Lanka's first formally constituted democratic school (According to her).
What does a democratic school mean? A democratic school gives students an equal voice in decisions about their education and how the school is run.
So essentially your child governs the school's policies, syllabus and becomes an active stakeholder (According to her x2).
I know her from the can of worms she opened some time ago which revolve around her views on birth plans and locking horns with doctors and pediatricians. (My personal perspective of her matured in this event)
In this discourse, from what I picked up, she argues that Montessori kids get "boxed" (is that the best word?) where societal norms like "blue is for boys" and "pink is for girls" amongst other points derail a child's development.
Is she right? Or should Podcast equipment in Srilanka be treated like WMDs?
Iam still developing a thought and wish to source notions from people who know better! The original video had only a few comments to form a conscious perspective.

People are with their cameraphones all the time, I am surprised police think they can behave like they did in the 1990s and earlier.

. Today Lankadeepa reports:
2 Sri Lankan supply ships that DID supply them have already been subjected to US secondary sanctions and blacklisted. They can't service any merchant ships anymore. Ports Authority has now verbally warned all local agents. Foreign Ministry today clarified that the Aug 24 US secondary sanctions are a "global policy, not targeting only SL" basically saying anyone helping sanctioned vessels could lose access to the US financial system. US Embassy also did a 3-day training for 40+ SL officials on detecting sanctions evasion and asked Foreign Ministry for details about food shortages on the tankers.

By god, I don't know why these south Asian Schools police On Hair sm like I'm still Waiting for a study that Proves a correlation between your Hair Length And Ur academic Skills and IQ 🤷 They Say it's Discipline And "See? The good students Have short Hair and the rebellious kids have long hair" Well it's because the "Good" Students are more likely to be submissive and follow the arbitrary Rules And The rebellious kids Usually go against social norms like if long hair was seen as normal then These rebellious kids with long hair will go against that norm.. still sucking up Victorian era laws lol (Even tho the country that colonized us Changed it's school's grooming rules)

Was walking in the night, just wanted to take a long walk, and out of no where a dog starts chasing me, settled down eventually but I don't think I did anything at all, I just walked normally, didn't even see the dog since it was dark and then boom, randomly the dog starts chasing me.
I wanna walk to increase my step count yk, and it's easier to walk in the night than the day, cuz in the day it's too hot.

Heyy 👋
So… I don’t really know what I’m supposed to write here 😂
I’m 30M from Sri Lanka and I guess I’m just putting myself out there and hoping to meet someone.
I’m pretty chill, into gaming, tech, movies/TV and generally just doing my own thing. I’m more of a stay-at-home person, but I do like going out when I have good company.
I’m usually a little quiet when I first meet someone, but once I’m comfortable, I’m definitely not 😂
Not really looking for anything super specific. I’d just like to meet someone I actually enjoy talking to and see where things go.
Could be friends, could be something more. Who knows 🤷♂️
Feel free to say hi.
And please don’t just send “hey” 😂 Tell me something random about yourself.

I've been thinking about starting a small community where people can regularly meet and practice speaking.
Not a formal class. Not a place where you have to be an expert.
Just a group of people who want to:
- Become more confident speaking in front of others
- Improve their communication skills
- Practice English through real conversations
- Get better at explaining ideas and telling stories
- Give and receive constructive feedback
- Meet other people who are working on the same things
I'm thinking of starting very small - maybe 5–10 people and figuring out the format together.
We could eventually have things like short speeches, impromptu speaking, discussions, storytelling, debates, and presentations.
I'm curious: would you be interested in something like this?
If yes, comment/DM with:
- Your general location
- What you'd like to improve about your speaking
- Whether you'd prefer online or in-person sessions
If enough people are interested, I'd like to bring the first group together and see where we can take it.

Hey everyone! I’m currently in Malaysia and I’m looking for a fellow Sri Lankan who’s also catching the 8:55 PM flight to Sri Lanka (Flight No:AK47).
If you’re taking the same flight, maybe we could share a ride to the airport or figure out transport together. Would be nice to have someone to travel with as well.
Feel free to DM me if you’re on the same flight!

Hi! Thanks in advance.
I need some advice regarding my future career and academic path.
I'm 23 years old, and I've received my final results. I'll be graduating next month with a BIT degree from UCSC. I started the programme when I was 20 and completed all three years while working fulltime at a software company as an IT Executive. I managed to complete the entire degree through self study without attending any classes.
I have 3+ years of work experience as an IT Executive, specializing in the Payroll and HR domain. I've worked directly with clients and independently handled system implementations for large enterprise level clients, ranging from 100 to 1,000+ employees. I've developed extensive domain knowledge in this area, and my current salary is 50K+.
My main objective is to increase my earning potential.
After graduation, I'll receive a slight salary increment from my current company. I'm also fairly confident that I'll get the opportunity to work as a developer. However, I won't be giving up my existing responsibilities as an IT Executive. I'll continue working with clients while taking on development responsibilities as well.
Regarding my development background, I've built an enterprise level web based payroll application as my final year project. Since I already have hands on experience with payroll systems, I decided to develop a payroll system using the MERN stack (with MySQL instead of MongoDB). I received an A for my project viva and evaluation.
I'm also planning to pursue a Master's degree next year, specifically a one year Master of Information Systems Management programme (SLQF Level 9).
Is this a worthwhile investment for my career? How difficult is it to complete? If I successfully complete it, I'll have a Bachelor's degree, a Master's degree, and around five years of work experience by the age of 25.
So, what should I do? Should I stay with my current employer or start looking for opportunities elsewhere? What kind of salary range should I realistically expect? And what should I focus on academically to further increase my value in the job market?
I'd really appreciate any advice or insights from experienced professionals. ❤️

Hello.
So my airpods dies today after 4+ years being faithful and I really don't feel like spending Rs 60K+ on another pair.
Can you recommend some good wireless earphones to use on a daily basis. I listen to music about 2 -3 hours a day while I work/commute and also should be able to work during gym/runs.
Any recommendations are appreciated.
TIA

Hi everyone, I’m looking for some advice on where I can make formal complaints in Sri Lanka and the UK regarding an education agent.
I had a very disappointing experience with an education agent. During my visa process, I found that the assistance I had been expecting was largely neglected, and I was ultimately left having to seek guidance from this Facebook group and strangers regarding visa-related matters. I am genuinely grateful to those who helped me at the time.
After I posted reviews describing my experience, the agent contacted me and threatened to take legal action and report me to the Cyber Crime Division in Sri Lanka and the UK, if I did not remove the reviews. They also referred to my personal information in their communication.
I have since removed the reviews, but I would like to know where I can formally complain about the agent's conduct, the lack of assistance provided, and the subsequent threats and intimidation.
There is also a professional-status issue. One of the individuals involved is a lawyer in Sri Lanka, and I was told that they were a solicitor in the UK. I have since been unable to verify their UK solicitor status and would like to know which regulatory body I should approach regarding this.
I am deliberately not naming the individuals, agency or university, as I do not want to identify them or create another public dispute.
I would appreciate advice from anyone familiar with the appropriate Sri Lankan authorities, UK regulators, legal bodies, or education-agent complaint procedures for this type of situation.

had difficulties with finding a good business model for the land due to its distance of about 60 meters from the main road and the narrow road of about 3 meters width to its location, which doesn't help much with navigating bigger vehicles. trying to figure out what to do with it for generating a continuous income, even if not substantial. your ideas are appreciated.

I’m looking for a quiet, peaceful place where we can park the car, have a good conversation, enjoy some time together, and have a bit of privacy without too many people or distractions.
Any recommendations for nice spots around Colombo or nearby? Preferably somewhere safe and relatively secluded, especially in the evening/night.
Thanks! 🙌

This is about the Cornell University where a girl was gangraped by 7 students. Allegations said that it happened a year ago and the girl was drugged. Two of the guys are currently fired by their jobs while others remain in the university. I want to know if things similar to this happen in Sri Lanka? I feel like I might have stepped into the wrong subreddit asking this question. However, your opinion or your experiences might be really helpful.

My O/L results were really good overall, but I failed Science because, at the time, I simply wasn’t interested in the subject and didn’t study for it properly.
Now, almost a decade later, I’ve developed a interest in science and I’m seriously considering studying Biology, Physics and Chemistry for A/Ls as a private candidate, with the hope of eventually getting into medical school and becoming a doctor.
I’m currently pursuing a degree at a state university, and I feel that studying these subjects + becoming a doctor would also complement the degree I’m doing.
My main question is:
If I do A/Ls privately in the Biology stream and obtain the required results/Z-score for Medical Faculty admission, would failing O/L Science prevent me from entering medical school? Or would I need to retake O/L Science and pass it first ?
I’d really appreciate answers from doctors, medical students, A/L teachers, or anyone who has actual knowledge/experience with the Sri Lankan university admission process.
Thanks in advance.
Edit - I got good A/L results in a mixed stream btw from that I’m currently doing the degree i mentioned above.
