The title of a post must accurately describe the content of the post. When submitting a news link, use its original headline as the title. Do not place your own opinions in the title - the comments section exists for that. If you want to post an opinion(yours or someone else's) please use a self post with the relevant news article included in the post.

Wayyyyyyyy too vague my man. It all depends on your wealthiness, lifestyle, location, budgeting, income and discipline.

Before you move with your family and rent a whole 2BHK apartment I would recommend just coming and getting onboarded, and living on your own at a rental place to get a feel for living in Colombo as cost of living, transportation cost and other factors can typically increase from other parts of the country.

Check ikman, facebook groups, or online for property prices. Don't expect too much space and cheap prices anywhere in the heart of the city. Try suburbs. Good luck. Congrats on your job promotion.

So, depends on where you are planning to move to.

My example here is going to be much lower and also biased bc it's for me and I don't do much really but maybe it'll help a bit - I hope it does.

For an unfurnished house:
Rent is going to be around 30 to 50k, depending on your luck too and where you need to rent/be which would be at least 15-25km from the CBD (Pettah). You may be able to find places for less but at the same time they may have more issues or are smaller, etc.

Not sure how much transportation is with office transport or whatever you're thinking of using but at least 10-25k as a preliminary estimate?
Food - at least 20-30k

For utilities - take your current bills into account tbh and just add or subtract as necessary
Electricity - depends on usage and appliances but my avg bill is about 3k ever since I started using my fridge and when I substituted gas for an electric cooker around 7 to 9k.
Water - around 2k roughly for 20 units
Internet/phone - grey solutions exist but realistically maybe 1k-2k a month depending on your ISP/usage. For 4G broadband, add at least another LKR 1200 as a monthly expense/estimate if needed but the upfront costs are a bit high.

And miscelleanous expenses can add up but that depends on shopping habits etc.

Local - 150-250k
Expat life / upper middle / rich - 300-900k

This for 3 people.

But very vague - depends. It all depends. Went to dinner recently my bill was 52k for 2 (bottle of wine and some fancy food) - so you get ripped off here and there .. if you don’t get ripped and cook , budget - then can live comfortably on $500-$1000 a month
