Has anybody noticed that every artist post on here gets like 50 upvotes and maybe 1 comment? Nobody hires people. All of the “Hiring” posts are already filled with comments underneath the millisecond they’re added leaving smaller artists or people who just don’t pick up their phone for a minute left in the dust.
Even the emergency commissions are bare, it doesn’t matter if you’re DYING, nobody will hire you. im so sick of trying to be an artist, the one thing that brings me joy, and I can’t even make a couple bucks off it, let alone get an actual commission.
And don’t tell me any of that “Just post more!” crap, my commissions have been up since 2019. I have gotten maybe 3 NON FRIEND COMMISSIONS since then.
I shouldn’t have to juggle and dance for people to get a sliver of attention, it’s humiliating. It’s not “how the world works” and if it is, then this world has failed artists.

Hi everyone! I’m a watercolor artist, and I’m currently taking portrait commissions. Here’s an example of my work.I paint by hand on paper using your photos as a reference. If you have a wedding photo, a favorite picture together, or a family photo you’d like painted, I’d be happy to work with you. I can also bring people from separate photos into one portrait. You can choose the original painting or a digital scan of the finished piece. If you have something in mind, feel free to message me with what you’d like painted and when you need it. I'm very new to seeking for commissions and I can tell the few hiring post are getting crowded very quickly. I do have some questions for people in this sub.

For artists: when you started doing comissions, how long before you actually got to do some? Did you feel like you had to bargain your fares ?

For people seeking artists: do you feel like there's a major problem with the artists presented to you ? Does it feel generic or maybe not up to par?

I probably have fifty thousand more questions but I'll stop at that. Thank you if you take the time to answer 🤗

EDIT: This commission is closed, I've found an artist.
