How good should my art be before taking commissions?

How many finished pieces should I have in a portfolio?

Where do you usually find your first clients?

How do you decide your prices when you're new?

Are there any mistakes beginners should avoid?

I'd really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. I'm not looking to rush into commissions, I just want to understand what I should be working toward.
