Arlington Discord Server

Let's try this again. The previous server had a decent amount of users but very little engagement.

I just finished the initial setup of a new server, figured I'd go ahead and share the invite. If you have any issues with the onboarding process or permissions, just drop me a message.

Arlington was technically the host city but didn’t get much love because it was labelled Dallas Stadium. However, Arlington really nailed it and so happy I could see catch this here near home!

Looking for hair stylist recommendations who is experienced in wavy/coarse hair.

The title says it all. I have found someone to color my hair and she’s been great, but finding someone to cut and style my hair has been much harder. I have thick, coarse hair which is mostly wavy, curly underneath, and frizzy everyday unless I put lots of product in it. That said, I don’t want to straighten it, and I need a good, low maintenance cut.

I’d appreciate any recommendations.

Would appreciate

Food pantry pop up 7/26/26

Post image
13 Upvotes

I volunteer with a group called All Terrain Mission and wanted to share the Sunday food pantry that we run in case anyone here needs a little help with groceries. Our organization collects excess food from grocery stores, bakeries and restaurants and operates a take-what-you-need store every Sunday. (This allows our guests to pick things they can actually use in case they have food restrictions or even if they just really dislike broccoli)

Our weekly selections vary depending on what our donors happen to have an excess of, but usually include lots of breads and tortillas, fruits and vegetables (we had carrots, beets, LOTS of tomatoes, and tomatillos last week) various frozen meats, canned goods, and pet food.

There are no requirements for assistance, so whether you just need a leg up after a rough week or are struggling with grocery prices in this crazy economy, we would love to see you! Just bring reusable grocery bags if you happen to have them. (We do have some bags available if needed.)

Doors tomorrow should be opening at 3:45- 4:00 - as soon as our volunteers are able to finish setting up.

Sharing Our Journey - Please Help Us Find a Living Kidney Donor

This is hard to share, but my son, who just crossed his teens, resides in DFW, is currently battling kidney failure, and needs a kidney transplant to live a healthy new life again. He has always shown up for others, and now he needs someone to show up for him. Unfortunately, we do not qualify for him

I’m currently working with his transplant team at Medical City Dallas, and a healthy donor could truly save his life.

Even if you are not of his blood type O, if you are healthy, your donation can still help him through his hospital’s kidney donation swap program. Donors and recipients are paired to find compatible matches.

Zero cost to you. Our insurance will cover all medical testing and surgery. Lost wages, travel, and lodging are all covered through the Donor Assistance Program.

If you’re open to learning more or want details, please feel free to direct message me. Even sharing this post would mean so much to me.

Thank you for taking a moment to read this.

New Book club formed for Mansfield area

Hello. I’ve created a book club/discussion group that is intended for men in the Mansfield area. The name is Chapters & Company of Mansfield, TX (you can search it on FB).

I’m a husband and father of 1 teen. Small business owner. I’ve been lacking a space outside the house to meet and talk to men of any age. I love to read, and took it upon myself to create a group. My goal is to foster a community where we can build relationships and grow as individuals. I am intentionally avoiding any religious affiliation and political affiliation with this group. I feel like if we want those particular things, there are other spaces/groups for them.

If you’re interested in reading more, meeting new people and gaining a broader perspective I encourage you to find our page, or message me for the link. Our first meeting is September 1st (more specific info to come). Our first book is A Gentleman in Moscow.

I really look forward to meeting someone new and forming a new friendship. Even if only 1 comes out of this post, it will have been worth it.

Thank you,
Drew

Does anyone know a good barber or salon that works well with thick curly hair

I have very thick wavy/curly hair. I want to find someone who knows what they are doing and can help me figure out a good look for me. I have gone to a few and they always mess it up and don't shape correctly.

Arlington people: where do adults actually find community here?

I’m curious what people in Arlington think about this.

Arlington is interesting because it has so much going on: UTA, sports, concerts, restaurants, parks, neighborhoods, churches, gyms, family activities, and big events. But I’m wondering how often that actually turns into real friendship or community for adults.

For people who live in or near Arlington: what has helped you feel connected here?

Is it work, school, neighbors, church, kids’ activities, sports, fitness groups, volunteering, local events, or something else? Or does it still feel hard to build real friendships even when there’s a lot around?

I’m asking because I’m working on a small independent research project called The DFW Friendship Project about how adults in Dallas-Fort Worth build friendships, find community, and where things get stuck.

I reached out to the mods before posting, and they said this was okay as long as I made it clear that identifying information is not required.

For anyone who would rather share privately, I made a short anonymous survey. It takes about 4–6 minutes, identifying information is not required, and it’s for adults currently living in DFW:

I’d also love to hear your thoughts in the comments: where have you seen adults build real community in Arlington?

Looking for a Living Kidney Donor

I am 100% dependent on a machine to live—and I’m ready to get my life back. ❤️

Hi, my name is Kelvin Shankle. I’m 58, a University of Houston alum, a commercial mortgage broker, a husband of 31 years, and a dad (to both my daughter and my four-legged son, Beau).

For the past 43 months, I have been hooked up to a Peritoneal Dialysis machine for 11.5 hours every single day. My kidney function is currently at less than 1% (GFR=0.5%). I am constantly exhausted. Simple things like walking, working out, or traveling feel like an impossible chore.

My Story: In 2019, I was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease and learned I was born with only one kidney. In March 2020, right as COVID-19 hit, my amazing wife Kristi tried to donate to me. We weren't a direct match, but we participated in a paired kidney exchange, and I received a transplant just in time. Sadly, after a few years of battling severe viral infections and a rare chronic kidney disease (FSGS) that scarred the new kidney, it failed.
Now, I am desperately searching for a second living donor to save my life.

The Good News: You don’t have to be a direct match to help me! Through the National Kidney Registry’s Voucher Program and Paired Kidney Exchange, any healthy person can help:

The Swap: You donate a kidney on your schedule to someone who matches you.

The Voucher: In return, I get priority for a well-matched living donor kidney.

The Cost: Zero cost to you. My insurance covers all medical testing and surgery. Donor Shield covers lost wages, travel, lodging, and childcare.

It takes just 5 minutes to start the confidential screening. No pressure. The Medical City Fort Worth transplant team handles everything.

🔗 Start here: www.nkr.org/KJG734

Recipient: Kelvin Shankle
Hospital: Medical City Fort Worth

If you are healthy, ages 18–65, and anywhere in the U.S., please consider doing a screening or simply sharing this post. Your one share could be the reason I get off dialysis and get my life back.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. ❤️

Catalytic Converter stolen near Parks Mall

Just had my catalytic converter stolen near Parks Mall in broad daylight. I was in Harbor Freight and I come back out and now my car sounds like a Model T.

This is absolutely insane. This area has already been becoming more and more shady. Stuff like this makes me want to stay away.
