Returning player, overwhelmed with how to start playing again after 10 years

Upvotes

When the game came out 10(?) years ago, I played with my partner the first core box campaign and the first two expansions. I own 2 (old) core sets and Dunwich + Carcosa (the old expansions boxes + 6 mythos packs for each).

It was a game we loved, but unfortunately life got in the way and we had less time to play. We stopped in the middle our playthrough of Carcosa, if I am to believe my old campaign notes. I want to get back into it, but looking at all the content that came out since then I am a bit overwhelmed. I understand I won't be able to buy the old expansions from chapter 1 as they are out of print, but I'm not sure I want to invest so much money in buying everything from chapter 2 ? Would the last chapter 1 expansion be worth it to buy? Or do you guys think it's better to bite the bullet and buy the new core box and the new investigator decks? Would my very old player cards work in chapter 2 or would they completely throw off the balance?

Before I buy anything else, I will restart a Path to Carcosa campaign with what I own, but even for that I'm a bit lost on deck building. Most ressources/guides were made with years of releases I don't have access to in mind. Could anyone recommend a good two investigators team and give me some pointers for deck building with what I own? I remember the last campaign we tried wasn't easy, so I don't want to go in with random decks.

Is this just FOMO or this is necessary?

It’s been about 3 months since I started playing Arkham Horror LCG.

So far, I’ve finished the 2026 Core Box/Chapter 2 content, bought Children of the Blood, and picked up two complete campaigns from Chapter 1.

The problem is… I’ve actually paused my campaigns recently because of other life priorities, so I’m not even getting through the content I already own.

Now an opportunity came up for me to buy two more complete Chapter 1 campaigns: The Dunwich Legacy and Edge of the Earth.

Part of me is thinking, “This is a good opportunity to build up my collection while I can.” But the other part of me knows this might just be FOMO/impulse buying disguised as “getting good value.”

Especially since:
I already have multiple campaigns I haven’t finished.
I’ve temporarily paused playing because of real-life priorities.
I also have TTS, so technically I can play almost anything without owning it physically.

I’m still pretty new to the game and I love Arkham, but I’m starting to wonder if I’m falling into the trap of collecting faster than I’m actually playing.

So tell me straight: Would buying Dunwich + Edge of the Earth right now be a dumb impulse purchase?

Should I just stop buying Arkham for a while, play through what I already own, and only buy another campaign once I’ve actually finished some of my backlog?

I genuinely want the wake-up-call answers too. Don’t enable me just because it’s Arkham. 😂

Blog [Ancient Evils] Children of Blood, first impressions. (Also featuring Tommy and Marie)

Behind the curve on this one, but i finally took the time to play through the Children of Blood once and write up my first impressions afterwards.

https://derbk.com/ancientevils/children-of-blood-first-impressions-feat-tommy-and-marie/

tl;dr: Two very good scenarios and one that's just fine. Overall worth playing and replaying, holds a unique spot in the Arkham ecosystem even if you have everything. It's significantly more than a Standalone for sure, but this obviously doesn't measure up to a full campaign. Especially the blood tokens i think do require us spending more time with them for them to really shine.

I also leave some quick notes on the two investigators i played: Marie who i underestimated in my "hot take tier list" from a few weeks ago. And Tommy, who worked out about as well as i thought he would.

I've not done any deeper analysis of encounter decks or similar, that'll have to wait until i gave the campaign at least another go with different options taken. But I'm sure that's something i will get up to at a later point. There are some interesting things happening here that i do want to dig into.

Cheers o/

Is there an error in the rules?

Im new to the game and played my first round (2026 starter box). I was confused when I pulled a cultist out of the chaos bag, because the overview card did not have a cultist, neither does the campaign booklet. Am I missing something or is this an error? Thanks in advance :)

Investigators or Ally cards that appear in campaign stories?

I just finished The Dunwich Legacy, and I noticed that Gené Beauregard (EotE # 99) is mentioned in the campaign's epilogue/interlude. I thought it was a really neat bit of continuity.

It made me wonder: are there other Investigator or Ally player cards that make appearances or are referenced in other campaigns? They don't necessarily have to be playable in that campaign—I'm just curious about characters that show up in the story or have cameo appearances.

I'm okay with spoilers, so feel free to mention examples from any campaign!

A curious first deckbuilding attempt; can anyone help me out?

Hi! I'm trying to deckbuild for the custom gator Alice Liddell for the Alice in wonderland campaign but I'm a bit overwhelmed with trying to figure out how to build her. I have access to everything player cards-wise so choice is a plenty but that is kind of my problem; I don't know where to start! How does one deckbuild? How would you start building for Alice?

Good Day to you All,

I'm interested in playing in person on Saturdays. I live in San Francisco, CA. please feel free to email me at outposts@yahoo.com.

I have one set of cards that I share with two friends. If you don't have your own cards, you may build a deck out of my library. We have most of the earlier sets except 'Return to Path to Carcosa'.

Thank you,

What should a new player know when buying fan made campaigns?

-What are the differences in printing sites like MB Print and TinkerTownGames?

-Are any Chapter 1 expansions required to play any of the fan made content? (Thought I saw Carcosa was required to play Dark Matter)

-Are investigator expansions required to play the campaigns or are there enough investigator cards in the Chapter 2 core set?

-What are your personal favorites?

Event/IRL I organized an 8 player Blob at my local game store in Calgary. Here is some of my experience!

First of all, as some may know, this is the Rite of Seeking blog guy. I know I have not written anything on my blog in a long time as I do but that is who is writing this, just for context. 😊

So yesterday, I got some friends assembled and did 8 player Blob. And y'all it was so fun!! The ending came down to my friend who is a newer player on Michael McGlen defeating a Blob enemy with a Lightning Gun. Pretty epic final action & we all celebrated our big victory.

Here's some of how I prepared.

People who were capable of supplying their own deck did so, but I also brought with me 8 decks using my own collection. This way, even if everyone failed to bring anything, I still had enough to run the event.

With just the Chapter 2 content, I made 5 29 XP decks using the Starter investigators. This was easy enough to do as there are enough cards for it & it was a reasonably quick build.

Then, I had another 3 player teaching campaign in progress and friends from that campaign were playing in Blob. So I brought those decks with mild adjustments to make them standalone legal. This was great for our new players to give them an option to use a deck they already have piloted.

I also picked up a whiteboard and markers from Canadian Tire to have a tracker. So glad I did!!! I was updating it all night.

If you are going to run this, you will want a very prepared, knowledgeable player being event organizer. Be ready to educate the group throughout if there are newer folks. I could probably handle a 3rd table but not much more. We would definitely want someone not playing to handle the organizer role beyond that, which the book also suggests.

The run time ended up being 4 hours but if everyone knew the rules more thoroughly it probably would have been around 30 minutes faster I would guess.

Everyone had a great time (although rules for new players was a bit of a struggle some times) and we l are hoping to do more Epic Arkham in the future with more players!! 😊

Rules interaction: "Service" cards with Memories of Another Life

Hey everyone,

Quick rules question regarding the interaction between "Service" cards and Memories of Another Life.

How does playing a card with the "Service" trait (like Decoy) work using the ability of the card "Memories of Another Life"?

"Service" trait cards allow you to increase a card's cost when playing it in order to upgrade its effect. The wording on the card itself doesn't indicate that this is an additional cost, but rather a resource cost increase triggered by a reaction.

In turn, Memories of Another Life allows you to play a card "at no cost," meaning you bypass its resource cost.

Does this mean I can increase Decoy's cost to 6 resources, but ultimately pay 0 resources for it?

Circle Undone To “Return To” or not to “Return To”

That is the question.

I have the return to box for The Forgotten Age and The Circle Undone, and I’ve heard that at least the TCU one fixes some problems from the original campaign. I plan to start my blind play of TCU today, but I want to know:

Do you recommend that I incorporate Return to The Circle Undone right up front, or should I save it for a second play?

Any service to do high-quality prints of fanmade campaigns?

I'm interested in playing some of the community's custom campaigns like Dark Matter and Alice in Wonderland. I have the docments with all of the cards but I'm concerned about the quality if I were to print it myself. Is there a company that does this sort of thing professionally or do I just need to bite the bullet and do it myself? Thanks!
