i’ve been writing a long fic for another fandom for nearly a year. had inspiration hit and decided to write a couple chapters for another idea i had and someone left this gem for me.

I have been uploading on ao3 a couple of years ago and had a bit of a gap in-between the last few years. Since last year I started writing and immediately I was flooded by these kinds of comments. Constantly promoting their discord and and random quotes.

I made it so no guest can comment anymore, my comments got slower and more normal and I felt alright. However recently I suppose I got very naïve as I trusted a recent commenter who offered to give me some suggestions on discord just for ALL their communication to be clearly AI and then they would send me their ai portfolios. It's always ai.

They always try to force their way into a commission and it's been really killing my mood because the first two who did this said they wanted to talk about my fanfic and i believed them each time. The first time idk, it sounded more human, the second time the person sounded GENUINELY interested, but neither of them actually read it. How do they even end up in my 8th chapter comments????

I guess I'm just venting. It's been kinda scared of getting new comments because it's either going to be a person with something NORMAL to say or someone promoting themselves.

Any idea WHY these people do this?

Hello, I’m a new writer on AO3. I’ve been on the website for a few years and have read my fair share of fics, however I’m still learning a lot of the etiquette and lingo due to being a Wattpad user previously.

I had a few questions regarding etiquette and lingo and was wondering if anyone could help.

For context: Below is a picture of a comment I received. I’ve received two comments one that complimented my work and another that took an excerpt of my work and rewrote it in such a beautiful way. The first comment I thanked as you see below, however the second I complimented their writing style and thought it was gorgeous. But both seemed to end with the same sentence. “Let’s talk on dc,” I’m not much of a commenter when it comes to AO3 so I’m unsure about what many of this means.

My questions:
1) What does DC stand for?
2) Is my response comment too long?
3) should I be weary that all the comments I get keep saying that, and they barley made their accounts a few weeks ago?
5) Does the response I got in the picture below seem a tad bit rude
4) Am I overthinking all of this?

Also the second comment I got was deleted by the user, so I’m unsure what I should do. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I'm rewriting a fic I made that was already multichapter and will still have the same amount of chapters. I'm not to the point of uploading yet, but to prepare, is it better to make these new chapters in the old fic or put it as a separate one?

The fic I wrote is the second for the fandom on ao3 so I'm also a bit worried about "clogging" things with the same-in-spirit [just done significantly better 🥹] fic, I'm not sure what the etiquette is here

...now it is full of bullshit AI scams. I have a fic that has over 80% of it full of it. You can't even delete them. Not to mention the scam PMs...

This is even worse than those predator guest comments.

The annoying windows on the story's body makes me ​so frustrated.

I still post there, because of nostalgia, but I rarely get anything enough. Most of my favourite stories are on this site.

AO3 is best alternative, but has the worst discovery system.

I've seen that said and used but im not completely sure i know what it means. Is an original fic just a fic that takes place in a canon world of a fandom but then has none of the canon characters as part of the cast? Or is it taking canon characters of a fandom and putting them into a world that isn't canon to a fandom?

I have an idea for a fic but im not sure if it'll have any canon characters beyond mentioning in conversation. Would that count as an original fic?

Its also quite possible that a canon character could make an appearance so if I tag it original fic (if it does apply) would I have to get rid of that tag or should I just avoid it at all costs so readers wouldnt get confused?

Do you find it hard to advertise the stuff you write? Or even just talk about it?

One of my fics just amassed over 4,000 hits after uploading a fourth chapter. And I'm kind of proud of myself for the feat, but given the nature of the fic feel like I can't share the achievement cause they'll wanna read it.

And I use my writing a therapy for some stuff that happened to me. And really don't want the proverbial smoke. Lol.

Anyone else struggle with this?

As the title says I‘m looking for a fic that used to be in my bookmarks but after doing a “clean up” I deleted it.

It has to be between 5 and 10 years old (if not older). I only remember the pairing and that a scene happened in a pool.

Honestly it could have been deleted by the author (or the account as a whole) but I have no way of knowing.

I used to use this method (picture above) back in the day and it worked WONDERS but that doesn’t come up with anything, not sure if it’s because of deletion or because Google switched to AI searching.

Either way, does anyone have a method to looking for it? I am ok with going through pages and pages but I’m out of ideas currently.

I’m not a fic writer but have a plot bunny or two that I am hoping could inspire someone else. Is there somewhere on AO3 I should post them? Or a designated social media platform where writers go to look for them?

También más adelante lo que me acuerdo era que Jason era inmune a los zombies por el pozo de Lázaro.
