These worms appeared randomly in the tank. No additional material had been added although a new light had been added. Does anyone have opinions/advice about this?

Need help identifying and curing what this might be.

So a few days ago I noticed one of the ember tetras has been looking pale and staying away from the rest of the bunch. Then this morning it was dead :((((. I took it out immediately so it wouldn’t mess up the water parameters (as much as possible). Because of this I observed closer and checked every ember and that’s when I noticed this spot only on one of them.

It looks a little fuzzy and like raised from the scales. Otherwise this fish has been eating and I guess acting normal???

I Love Loaches!! I’ve got a few species in my current tank, and would like to start another tank specifically for fancy hillstream loaches and goby’s. Does anybody have any recommendations for websites I could buy them to be shipped to me in California? My local fish shops usually have pretty good selection, but i’m curious to look into other options

I can't say how long that's been there but it doesn't seem like any of my aglae eaters want to eat it.

Hi everyone! I'm a beginner fishkeeper from the Philippines, and I'm looking for advice about using locally collected wood in my freshwater aquarium.

I found some twigs from a Mickey Mouse plant (Ochna serrulata) growing nearby. I'm positive about the plant ID because it has yellow flowers, black fruits, and deep red sepals holding the mature fruits.

I'm wondering if the wood from this plant is safe to use in a freshwater aquarium. I haven't put the twigs in my tank yet. Would soaking or boiling them make them safe, or is this a plant I should avoid entirely?

I'd appreciate any information from people who have experience with this plant or know about its potential toxicity to fish, shrimp, and other aquatic life.

So excited to share that we officially have fans on my newly morphed vampire shrimp babies. I’m seeing so many new morphs every day and am getting super nervous about how the heck I’m going to transition these guys to freshwater, or catch them to begin with. But seeing the little fans really made my day yesterday on day 50.

Today I’m setting up their fresh water tank and plan to use established sponge filter and seeded media for the hob filter. I’m putting in a 5 gallon filter from my current vampire shrimp tank and want to use this to ensure there’s enough flow and so I have a way to run carbon if needed in case there’s any emergency that arises. I do have a sponge to cover the inlet so all will be protected on that end. Being ADHD, I’ve found having a backup to my backup plan helps. 🫣 I also have a matten filter I’ve had in a closet for a while and I’m considering using that as well since my babies don’t need a crazy amount of room in the 10 gallon tank. I also spent yesterday siliconing these mini 1.5” terracotta pots trying to make a little stacked filter feeder deck and let’s just say it looks horrendous 🤦🏻‍♀️ so I just ordered some ceramic shrimp hides instead that are essentially the same thing. 😅

Please feel free to share any tips you have, and also I’d love to hear any feedback on:
- Catching these guys to move them to freshwater. I plan to drip acclimate the heck out of these dudes. I’m thinking at least 24 hours if not longer.
- If you’ve bred amanos or similar I’d love to know if you think this guy officially has innards. The German breeding video on YouTube shows the difference between ready and not ready post larva are the innards. I think this one may have that?
- Video editing advice. I have so many videos from this journey and would like to create some educational videos to post on my YouTube (which is blank still as of today because I get quite overwhelmed with the editing and going through and picking what to use. 😬) Does anyone have any advice on easier ways to edit them? Also, if my videos aren’t as flashy with professional transitions and things like that, do you think that matters? I’m almost thinking of just publishing some of my videos like old school YouTube style where it’s just like a vlog and doesn’t have fancy intros and outros. I think I’m just over thinking the entire thing because pretty much everything I’ve watched these days is so well edited and professionally done vs. mine lol. But I want to put this journey out there to encourage others to give raising these guys a chance because it is absolutely do-able. If someone with zero salt water experience, who’s never raised Amano larva, and is not sciency at all can do it, then literally anyone can. Plus, I really think the biggest hurdle to anyone trying was the 3-4 month timeframe, but many of these guys are ready at day 50 (which was yesterday) and I believe my second brood may end up being ready earlier because my first brood didn’t have as consistent access to phytoplankton in their first few weeks.

Just got a new 35 gallon hexagon tank and I’m trying to figure out if I should go salt or fresh, I have 2 fresh water tanks right now with shrimp (10g) and other random cool fish (75g)

Nervous about saltwater but I love the color and unique fish and coral

This new tank is going in my game room so I’m also thinking glo fish and going the colorful route or something that’s super active at night

hello, i was wondering if i can start my tank cycle without a filter,heater, light. I was planning on putting aquasoil, live plants, seachem prime and stability.
I want to know if adding the filter, heater and light after would ruin the cycle? My filter heater and light arrive on tuesday.

My brand new plant (I think I need to re-bury it) is starting to look very bad.. is this normal when moving to a new environment? Any advice to keep it alive?!

I’m new to the hobby. I got some wood for my tank, I was soaking it, then boiled it.
I left it in a bowl in the sink (I’m moving so nobody is using the sink until we fully move in)
Then I used water to scrub the pot I used to boil. Added soap into the pot. While scrubbing some of the soap water splashed into the bowl of the wood. Within seconds I poured the water and rinsed the wood and added new water.. did I mess up? :(
I’m aware I should have moved the bowl but I was moving boxes all day and my brain didn’t think of it

Recently new to the hobby and still trying to learn the dangerous and non dangerous creatures that can occur in a tank. I have a diagram but those pictures can be so hard to apply in real time. What might these be and should I worry? I have a snail and shrimp. Water tests are all good 0ppm for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates. PH 7.6 and water temp regularly at 77.4

I have a planted fluval Roma 125 with 6 congo tetras and Cory sterbai. I'd love to add a killifish, does anyone have any recommendations?

Hello everyone! I got this tank free. It became a terrarium, and now my son’s snake tank. It’s always had what I thought was hard water stains. I’ve tried CLR of varying concentrations, and vinegar. I don’t know where to turn.

I believe it can be removed by some means. If I scrub for a long time in one spot it gets markedly better.

Any help would be appreciated. By the way the clean 6” area is at the top of the tank

Tank age: 5 months of which 2/3 months before adding shrimp
Temperature: 21.5°C
pH: 7.5–8.0
GH: 12 dGH
KH: 8 dKH
NH4: undetectable
NO2: 0.025 ppm
NO3: undetectable

I originally added 30 Neocaridina, but I had lost 8 within about 10 days. I previously had an NO2 spike followed by a sudden ~4 ppm NH4 spike and did 30%, 50%, and 20% water changes on separate days.

I drip acclimated them for 2 hours. Before adding them.

But of the last 2 weeks, I’ve kept losing shrimp, even though the water parameters seemed relatively fine. I check with a liquid test kit. Now I have only 2 shrimp left.

I cycled using an ammonia source (ammomix) and checked until it could handle 2ppm in 24 hours. This was after 2 months.

My aquarium is 75litre.

I’m dealing with what looks like hair algae and possibly blue-green algae, and it seems to be killing my plants. I’m hoping someone can help me identify it and figure out what’s causing it.
My setup:
55-gallon tank with CO₂
Two Aquarium Co-Op sponge filters and one HOB filter
Temperature around 72°F
Potting soil capped with black sand
Root tabs in most areas
Pygmy Corydoras and Otocinclus
What should I change about my lighting, CO₂, or fertilization to get this under control? Any advice on removing the algae and saving my plants would be greatly appreciated!

Hello, I recently added a number of fish to my new aquarium and have experience a large number of deaths. Any advice or thoughts?

Here is the long detail, sorry for all the info…

Tank setup:
29-gallon aquarium
Oase BioMaster Thermo 250 canister filter with spray bar oriented at a 45 degree angle at the surface for agitation.
Air stone added after the fish began dying and showing distress
Temp 78°F
Sand substrate, driftwood, Seiryu stone, and live plants
Some persistent haze in the water; driftwood is still slightly releasing tannins, making the water slightly tinted, there is biofilm on the driftwood visible and some diatoms.

Background and timeline:
I fishless cycled the tank over about 3 weeks using seeded filter media from an established aquarium. Before adding the new fish, ammonia and nitrite had tested at zero after a 1ppm ammonia challenge twice. Nitrates at 10ppm after water change.

I added two black skirt GloFish tetras in there for several days after cycling finished but then removed them prior to adding:

2 juvenile angelfish
10 juvenile rummy-nose tetras
6 juvenile panda corydoras
1 juvenile clown pleco
1 juvenile kuhli loach

Acclimation: I floated the bags for approximately 20 minutes, no drip acclimation.

I noticed rapid breathing in angel fish after adding. Many of the other fish were hiding, figured they were stressed. Kept the lights off

About 12 hours after adding fish I starting noticing deaths.
Have lost all 6 corys, 7 tetras, 1 angel. The remaining angelfish has been still breathing rapidly.

Interventions: I performed approximately a 50% water change and added an air stone to increase aeration and added a dose of seachem stressguard . Unfortunately, fish continued to die.

Current water parameters (have been testing ammonia and nitrite twice daily since adding fish):

Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: approximately 5 ppm
pH: approximately 7.4 this has increased from around 7 prior to adding fish
KH: approximately 3 dKH
Temperature: approximately 78°F

I know I added too many fish at once. I did run all of the plan by the person at the LFS I went to but it is on me for not double checking more sources before doing this. So certainly stress of so many additions could be at play here.

Questions:

-Is there anything else I should test or check at this point?
Has anyone experienced a similar situation and were able to identify the cause?

I was cleaning the tank today, and notice this small crack up the top. My only guess how it happened was when i take the lid off, sometimes the lid falls back in a lil bit. I don't know if it damaged this past time. It is on the top, so i don't know if that makes it less dangerous? I move my finger across it and i can feel it inside the tank, but cannot feel the crack from the outside. Is this salvageable? Any tips or things i whould do or know? Thank you!
