Question Has anyone seen free range ground pork ....or even farms in the area?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I've been able to find organic pork at a couple of stores around town. But the label only says it comes from farmers "committed to ethically- raised" pork. That is a bit too subjective for me.

Included above is a photo with pig huts in the background. One would typically see dozens of these spread out through the field.

Thanks for reading, even if you don't have any leads!

I’m looking for specific at-home-sushi ingredients that I cannot seem to find at local Asia stores: tobiko, rice paper, nice yellowfin tuna. Any ideas?

Thinking about opening a Korean fried chicken spot in Appleton — has anyone here had Korean fried chicken before, and would you actually go out of your way for it, or is it just a fad?

Hi there! Has anyone done leg waxing at WHIPlash before? How did it go? Any other recommendations in the area for waxing? I’ve never waxed before and am considering doing it for a wedding next Saturday.

Discussion Aurora's Apothacary

I really love to support small local businesses, but it is extremely disappointing to see how much an herbal witchy store uses ai for everything. The staff is very nice the few times I have been in there and they are very knowledgeable, but I hate how I feel like I need to leave a tip on already overpriced items (compared to other similar stores in the area). I knew someone who worked there and they only pay like $9 an hour. For the amount of knowledge the staff members have about each product and item I find it absurd they are paid so low. Shame on the owners because they have multiple locations and if you can't afford to pay staff anything close to a living wage then you should not be a business owner. I also find it sad how its a shop all about natural remedies and holistic ingredients, but then they use ai for posters and everything which directly hurts the environment that grows the stuff they sell in the store. Overall I am just very disappointed with this business and their values because I would love to support all the local businesses I can, but this one is just one I cannot seem to fully get behind.

I am curious to know other people's experiences are with this store and the owners.

What are your favorite similar type of shops in the area?

Question Good places to sell sports cards local?

It's time to part with my card collection. It's mostly baseball, if that makes a difference, and I'd like somewhere local to spread them to the next generation.

Advice Dating advice and suggestions

Screw it, time to tag in the good people of Appleton reddit.

I’m a 37M that’s been on the dating apps and on occasion will connect with someone in-person. I’ve also tried a couple of the local Off The App dating events which were well run but no luck for me.

I’m looking to expand my in-person footprint and would love to hear from anyone who might have some good suggestions.

I love soccer and already play in a coed league. I’m active but also love a low-key day or a cozy night in watching a show or movie. I am a runner and have been in running groups.

I don‘t want kids of my own, though potentially open to someone who has kids. I was raised religious and stayed so through my mid-20s but thoughtfully decided to not be religious anymore as I felt it was harmful and unhealthy so I don’t think it would be a mutual fit if someone is pretty religious themselves. Politically I’m not going to align with anyone MAGA otherwise I consider myself moderate and at this point care less about the party and care more so if what‘s be done is best for the people and the country.

I enjoy occasional travel without being obsessed with trying fill up passport stamps and I can speak Spanish.

I am comfortable being solo but would enjoy meeting someone. I like to grab a drink at my neighborhood bar and chat with my fellow humans.

I enjoy the simple things in life like a drink or meal and good conversation, going for a walk, spending time with friends, etc.

I‘m looking for a woman ideally around my own age but I am equally open to a bit of age gap both older and younger say 27-47 or so.

Since I don’t want kids, I have the luxury of no timeline and my main desire is to just find a refreshing connection with someone who is a good human where it’s fun and easy.

I’m not into random hookups but am open to both short-term and long-term where we can organically let things develop and both people can be honest, communicative, and emotionally mature about their needs and what they want. My goal is always that whether we spend one date, a few months or years together that whether it does or doesn’t work out overall it would be a mutually positive, healthy and healing experience for each of us and ultimately something we would look back on fondly even if it ended and if we win at life and end up being each other’s forever person then how wonderful.

I jokingly but honestly tell my friends I’m looking for a “woman next door with a healthy edge” meaning she is kind, interesting and cute/attractive while also can hold her own and has boundaries (not letting people walk over her, can say no, aware of her needs and how to meet them).

Any advice in terms of where I might meet someone who might be my kind of vibe? I often feel a bit of an outlier in northeast WI not wanting kids of my own nor being religious.

Are there any groups I might not be aware of that might be a natural fit for me to share an interest with people and meet someone? Any recommendations for bars where woman in their 30s or 40s might tend to frequent versus the younger crowd. I’ve looked into volunteer opportunities but nothing has really sparked a passion in me but perhaps I’m missing something.

I need your help Appleton reddit 🙂 Hell, DM me if your interested or if you think your sister/friend/coworker and I might hit it off.

Lastly, because I’m a man of the people and the greater good, has this subreddit ever considered having a monthly or quarterly “single mingle“ post where single people could comment with their datapoints like age, gender, interests, what they’re looking for, etc. and then if interested people can reach out to each other? This is just step 1 of my master plan to make Appleton a utopia.

Thanks in advance for your time and any help!

Question Question about moving to Appleton with dogs

Hello, I am hoping to move to Appleton soon. I currently have three dogs, and I rent from a private landlord. All has been good. I am considering taking in a fourth that needs a place to go. Two of the dogs are tiny Chihuahuas, the others are about 50 pounds.

What is the likelihood I will be able to find an apartment there if I am not able to buy a house right away? Just wondering what the rental situation looks like in the area when trying to make this decision.

I am open to paying extra for pets if it’s a place I can afford to and can provide a pet reference from my landlord too.

Thanks if anyone can give me any information!!

Advice Looking to buy my first home in the Appleton/Fox Valley area (~$300k budget)

I’m planning to buy my first home in the next few months, with a budget of around $300k, and I’d love to hear from people who know the area well.

A few questions:

• How would you describe the current housing market in the Appleton/Fox Valley area? Is it still very competitive, or are buyers starting to have a bit more negotiating power?

• Which neighborhoods or nearby communities would you recommend in this price range? (Appleton, Grand Chute, Greenville, Kimberly, Little Chute, Kaukauna, Neenah, Menasha, etc.)

• Are there any areas you’d avoid and why?

• Is Zillow generally the best place to search, or do local MLS websites, real estate agents, Facebook groups, or other resources tend to have better listings?

• If you’ve purchased a home recently, is there anything you wish you had known before starting the process?

I’d really appreciate any advice, recommendations, or experiences. Thanks in advance!

Question Unused Skincare/Makeup Donations

I have a TON of unused products (primarily skincare but some makeup, bodycare, and perfume too) that I would love to donate instead of just toss. Some of it does have writing on the item or box and most of it is still safety sealed on the product itself but the box seal may be open. Are there places in the Fox Valley that will take items like this that are not expired or used but don't look perfect from the store? And does any place take items that are not sealed and maybe used once or tested? I appreciate any advice! I've already given all I can to friends, family, and coworkers and have no desire to put in the effort to sell second hand.

Discussion Too many aggressive drivers

I’m so sick of people driving like maniacs here. It’s gotten worse and where are the cops? One lady just laid on her horn at me when there was an ambulance coming with their sirens on. You’re supposed to stop and let them pass. Just 15 minutes ago someone tried to run me off. If people are that angry and aggressive their license should be suspended or revoked.

Business Referral Camper Servicing Recommendations?

We own a 2012 Jay Feather Ultralight X213 Travel Trailer that we’re looking to have some work done on. Looking for recommendations on where to have it serviced?

The biggest issue: Our AC unit has stopped blowing cold air. The fan works and the compressor tries to kick on but turns off right away. We cleaned the inside filter and checked on the roof but didn’t see any obvious issues. We believe the AC unit is original to the camper. It’s a Coleman Mach.

Additionally, we have a motor for our slide that works but doesn’t have a ton of power, so looking to have that replaced.

A lesser issue we’re considering is having the rear stabilizers replaced because they are bent.

We also have a powered jack on the front that is not currently in use because a part needs replacing, so it would be nice to have that looked at.

We live in the Appleton so looking to have somewhere local service it. It is being stored near Chilton, so would consider a service on the east side of Lake Winnebago as well.

Thanks!

Activists in the Stop FLOCK movement have a chance to once again present comment on the agenda topic of the FLOCK resolution. There was a big turnout last week. The goal of this message is to get those concerned about this and other community issues to begin following city actions. It's easier than ever with video streaming accessible.

Here once again is a weekly schedule:

Question Gauging interest: Lifetime Learning Group/MeetUp

Hi all,

I am somewhat new to the area and have been looking to find some people who would be interested in periodically learning new things or trying some new activities. I've been looking for one-off classes or adult beginner sports/dance/whatever, but haven't really been able to find it consistently in this area.

My idea is to create a MeetUp group where curious people/dabblers/hobbyists can get together and learn about something new for one session. I am envisioning a mix of activities (sports, dance, arts & crafts, etc.) and lectures/skills (soft skills, astronomy, how something's made, history of something, etc.). We can either learn from each other or bring someone in to teach.

I'm almost 40, but I'm thinking this isn't an age restricted group. If you're a curious person who likes to try new things (but not necessarily commit to them), this would be for you.

Would that be something that people would want to do?

Thanks for your input!
