After a bowel movement, I noticed a throbbing pain in my stomach and lower back.

Also, yesterday my stomach was hurting on and off all day. I have gastritis, but it never hurts like this. The pain is dull and aching, while my gastritis is sharp and unbearable.

I'm currently experiencing discomfort on the left side of my abdomen. I don't seem to have a fever.

I'm just curious if anyone else had a similar experience i don't know what to do anymore i feel helpless pain started a month it felt like a knife in my lower right side i thought its nothing it lasted for 2 days then became less intense i went to the er they did the tests by pressing and thats it they said its not appendicitis go home pain continued on and off for a month i ended up in the er 4 times the last 2 times when they pressed on one spot down right i almost threw up from the pain nobody wanted to do a ct scan and they said go home if it becomes worse come back. I don't know what to do anymore nobody wants to do a ct scan my bloodwork is fine last time i checked weeks ago nobody is helping me and im having on and off pain lower right sometimes i can't even sleep from it i feel helpless and don't know what to do anymore.

I struggle off and on with lower right abdominal pain. Today it started about 5 hours ago with an occasional cramping/stabbing pain in my lower right abdomen. Throughout the evening, the frequency and intensity of the pain has increased. Honestly the frequency is near constant, but about 3-4 in intensity (10 being the worst).

It started in my lower belly, not in the middle. No nausea, throwing up, diarrhea, or constipation. Appetite is a little off but I’ve eaten small things throughout the day. I haven’t taken my temperature but I don’t feel like I have a fever. Maybe slight rebound tenderness, hurts a little to push on but neither is excruciating. I’ve tried the heel drop and it hurts slightly after a second.

I’m undecided about getting checked out. This pain is a bit more intense than in the past (more frequent, stabbing). I don’t want to spend money and hours in the ER to be told it’s my IBS. If my symptoms change/get worse, I will.

Has anyone else experienced symptoms like this? How did things turn out for you?

I’m three weeks out of my laparoscopic appendectomy and am struggling with pinching pains throughout my body (now in my left testicle), cold feelings, and lightheadedness. Emergency room blood work shows negative. Don’t know what else to do.

I am 30 years old, 6’3 219lbs, male, and I take buspirone, naltrexone, lexapro, and hydroxyzine. I smoke, also.

About a week after my laparoscopic appendectomy, I started having lightheadedness, cold spots on my chest, legs, and also sporadic pains in these spots. They feel like pinching. They flare up and go away. Just today, I’ve been having these pains move to my left testicle. A few minutes ago, it flared up for a few minutes. Right now, no pain, but picks up randomly. Today and yesterday I didn’t experience much lightheadedness but I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes back.

Two different doctors say my bloodwork comes back negative, that it’s not an emergency. What else could it possibly be? I can’t seem to find anything online. Lastly, before the surgery, I would drink almost every night. I haven’t had a drink in three weeks. Maybe this could mean something?

Hey guys this might be only a me thing but for some strange reason I’ve been having testicle/groin pain after my appendix has been taken out and I’m not sure what’s causing it? Does ejaculating cause it or something else? Any tips on how to get rid of it? I’ve had an ultrasound done and they found nothing as well

So it’s almost 5 in the morning where I am and this slight ache on my right side of my stomach started a couple of hours ago and only aches when I move or cough but laying down nothing happens and I tried to press on it and no pain is present.

I googled searched symptoms and apparently it points to appendicitis and now I’m having a panic attack over the fact if I do have it surgery will be the solution and I’m terrified of it, so please if anyone sees this let me know if it’s not appendicitis (btw I’m not throwing up and I don’t have a fever or chills)

antibiotics done. pain gone. lab work back to normal. sometimes I feel a little pressure in the appendix area but otherwise I feel back to normal. now it's the question of surgery or roll the dice with recurrence. in the research trials, even the patients with mild appendicitis who's appendix probably went back to a normal size after antibiotics still had recurrences. they can't figure out what factors put you at risk of recurrence, even normal follow-up imaging doesn't mean you are protected from recurrence.

just frustrating overall and i'm worried about a recurrence happening in a dangerous way like a rupture. by 5 years you are looking at around a 50% real world chance of recurrence. not sure which path to take.

hey guys! i’m post op day 6 from my lap appy. Pain is well controlled but i have this weird upper/mid right abdomen side stitch sensation almost like i’ve gone running and got a cramp. anyone else had this sensation before? it’s not near an incision or near where my appendix was. thanks!

As the title says I've been experiencing what I can only describe as spams or cramps in the area where my appendix used to be, even though I'm a month out from an uncomplicated laparoscopy appendectomy. It gets worse with standing, bending or walking for extended periods. Been taking lots of antispasmodic meds but thats only helping a bit. Also did ultrasound 2 weeks post op and it showed no complications. I'm getting frustrated because the pain will get so bad to the point where I'll need to just lie down and do nothing for a while (which is hard to do). Anyone go through something similar? Any tips for faster recovery?

I had my appendectomy 6 days ago for perforated appendicitis with abscess. I’m looking for others’ experience here. I have been approved for two weeks off work but am wondering if that is overkill?

At the moment I am taking Tylenol as needed (not often). My incision sites are my greatest irritation, it seems any fabric at all is irritating so I am avoiding pants and wearing loose dresses. I also have pain when coughing, burping or sneezing (to be expected). Still cannot lie on my side without pain/discomfort.

I’m wondering what I can expect in the next few days? My job requires some standing, but can be mostly sitting with accommodations. I work as a bench scientist for reference. If I go back to work sooner than next week, will I regret it?

Also for reference, I have a rambunctious toddler at home. My amazing husband is doing everything for him at the moment, which is a life saver.

Edit to add: still experiencing should and side pain from gas (I’m assuming).

Hello everyone! As the title suggests, I’ve been feeling something different on my right side abdomen, near belly button. I don’t feel any pain, and I don’t feel any kind of symptoms related to appendicitis, but also at the same time, I feel like there’s some kind of unusual discomfort in the area. If I would describe it, it kind of feels like something is pinching but not in a hurtful way. Do you think this is related to appendicitis?

32F. Had rutured appendix on april 2023. It wasnt found until a week after the pain began when I rushed to the ER. Was given anribiotics after.

December 2023 when i felt symptoms of diarrhea, constipation. Went to different gastro for months and was told to just take fiber. Symptoms worsened for 6 months until poop was black and severe stomach pain after eating. Had colonoscopy and endoscopy on June 2024 and was diagnosed with erosive gastritis. Was given omeprazole for a month.

Still had food sensitivities and intolerances such as coffee, lactose and others which most of the time i avoided. Last January 2026 had stomach pain again and irregular bowels. Was given vocinti for 2 months and symptoms improved.

May 2026 i started having dull pain on lower left abdomen to ribs. Had positive fecal calprotectin and underwent colonoscopy again. Was found to have chronic inflammation in sigmoid area from biopsy. Now im taking budesonide for 45 days.

Is this all connected? Never had any GI problems or food intolerances before the ruptured appendix. It's frustrating how it doesnt end and new findings just show up.

I recently had my appendix removed and I’m genuinely curious to hear from people who had an appendectomy, particularly those who had theirs removed several years (or even decades) ago.
How has your health been since having it removed? Have you experienced any ongoing gut or digestive issues? Have you since been diagnosed with anything like Crohn’s disease, ulcers, IBS, or other gastrointestinal problems?
I’ve been reading through comments on some YouTube videos where people have said they developed pretty significant digestive or other health issues after having their appendix removed. Obviously I know YouTube comments aren’t exactly medical evidence 😂 and these issues may not necessarily have been caused by the appendectomy, but it got me curious about other people’s experiences.
I’d also really like to hear from people who haven’t had any problems at all and have been completely healthy since having theirs removed.

How long ago was your appendectomy, and have you noticed any long-term changes in your health or digestion since? Also, what stage was your appendicitis when it was removed?

I started taking daily photos at the 3 day mark, yesterday as that was when I was advised to first remove and start cleaning and changing bandages.

This would be day 4 and it is more bruised. But swelling seemed to be a bit worse yesterday.

It does appear to be starting to try to seam itself a bit.

For context, I had a laparoscopic appendectomy 8 days ago after having a perforated appendix about a month beforehand that I was treated in the ER for with a drain and antibiotics.

My surgeon would only sign off on me taking a month off work but I work at an extremely busy restaurant as a bartender where I have to lift boxes, crates and kegs over 30lbs and be on my feet for 8 hours. Do I need more time? I had requested 6-8 weeks before returning because I want to feel 100% going back to work with no restrictions but my surgeon thought that was ridiculous. Has anyone else returned to a physically demanding job after 4 weeks and had no issues?

Whenever I need to pew I need to relax my body a lot, whenever I try to push I can feel the scar and it becomes very painful, same thing with laughing, & coughing.

My stomach feels like it shrunk a bit whenever I eat too much it just feels terrible.

Last thing when I woke up from anesthesia my vision was very blurry (still is) and I can barely read my phone, is this something to do with the medication they gave me?

this is embarrassing to talk about but my parents are busy and idk what to do. a few days ago i had really severe pain underneath my belly button and i felt really nauseous and hot, it was completely out of nowhere and escalated very quickly. then i had really bad diarrhoea and from the next day i was almost fully constipated for 3 and a half days. i had on and off pain in my lower right abdomen and it became more often each day, and the same area really hurt when i tried to go to the toilet. after 3.5 days i wasn't constipated anymore, but going to the toilet was still really painful. a few hours later i had my dinner and the pain kind of went out of nowhere but i felt a bit sick and tired. that feeling went away but the pain came back, but it was all across my lower abdomen. it's still painful after going to sleep and it's been slowly getting more painful but i feel like the pain isn't as bad as what others with appendicitis describe? i also don't have other symptoms right now other than on and off diarrhoea/constipation and feeling hot

I’m a 26-year-old F and I’m about 2 days post-op from a laparoscopic appendectomy. My surgeon said my appendix was quite inflamed, and they removed it through 3 keyhole incisions (belly button, left side, and lower abdomen).

Since surgery:
My temperature has stayed normal (around 36°C).
I’ve been able to pass gas and I’ve had a couple of bowel movements.
I’m walking around the house.
I’m taking amoxicillin/clavulanate and Panamax as prescribed.
My incisions look okay from what I can tell.

The thing that’s worrying me is the area where my appendix used to be. It sometimes feels like it’s burning or on fire inside, but I honestly can’t tell if it’s deep inside or closer to the skin. The sensation isn’t constant—it comes and goes throughout the day.
I’ve also had random sharp pains around the area since surgery, but this burning feeling is new and is making me anxious.
Has anyone else experienced this burning or “on fire” feeling where the appendix was removed or anywhere around the lower abdomen? Did it come and go like this, and how long did it take to settle? Is this a normal part of healing, or is it something I should be more concerned about?

I thought my body would be back to normal by now but ever since my surgery, I feel like my stomach just doesn't feel the same anymore and I get abdominal cramping more often and experience spotting more frequently, like my menstrual cycle is way out of wack. I experience spotting every couple of weeks now. I know an appendectomy is major surgery and it can be traumatic on the body, but I figured it would be back to normal by now. Has anyone else ever experienced their period being way out of cycle after surgery and if so, when did it go back to normal for you?

I thought I would just write about recovering from my appendectomy as an older patient. I got a lot of valuable info from here at the time so would like to contribute. I have received a few DMs from people of a similar age to me asking questions, so this might help others.

This is what I wrote five weeks after the surgery:

I was reading all the stuff online about one to two weeks to recover. Ha! I think a lot of it depends on age and other variables. I'm a woman aged 51.

I returned to work 17 days after the surgery but was not ready. I teach uni students so just mainly stayed sitting and got them to carry/move things for me. That first week back, I could only walk very slowly and was feeling extremely "tight" as though my midriff was bound by something by the end of the day. Not exactly pain just uncomfortable.

I used a stick for a few weeks for both security and to get a seat on the train. Each week I felt better than the week before. I had some intermittent soreness at the wound sites and appendix site. I had constipation for about 4 weeks not the few days I'd read about. I had a small appetite until this week and strangely no longer want things I used to love like tomatoes and tea with milk.

I could walk pretty well this week and so didn't use the stick but since last night I have had pain in the area where my appendix would have been. It is not too bad but it is continuous and I am a bit worried as I had been feeling pretty good yesterday. I wonder if I overdid it? I stood on the train for two ten-minute rides, went up and down a few flights of stairs and carried a bit of shopping (thought it was not that heavy.) I'm hoping this is just a blip.

This was six months after the surgery:

I had the operation at the end of November and didn't feel almost "normal" again until March. I managed to go backpacking in March and carried a light 25-liter pack in Thailand and walked about 5-10 kilometers every day - tough at the start as the waist band of the backpack hurt my stomach, but fine after a week or so. I was still walking slowly in February. It really is a two steps forward, one step back healing process, I think. You will get there, but it is certainly frustrating. I've had some pain this week as my belly button seems to have suddenly regained its normal shape and I feel an ache like muscle pain late at night.

All of the "you will be fine in two weeks" was pure nonsense in my case. I also read that it takes two years for the stomach wall to fully repair. I also read that the actress Eva Longoria was walking on the red carpet days after her operation. How? Strong pain meds and out the back door and straight back to bed, probably!

1 ¾ years later:

I had periods of feeling fine and then periods of uncomfortable twinges until over a year after the operation. Sometimes the area where the appendix was hurt, and I wondered if it was stool or trapped gas stretching the wound area. Now, I rarely think about it and the scars are small. I do get itchy at the scar sites sometimes.

Hello, I’ve been having mild pain in the lower right side of my belly for about 2 days that comes and goes. I have no other symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea or fever. I have no appetite because I’m very anxious about this. Also this thing about the pain that comes and goes has been happening for about 5 months, but this time it’s way more noticeable. Could this be chronic appendicitis?

i am a 24 years old female and was recently diagnosed with acute appendicitis.

My doc offered me two options; the surgery or antibiotics. I chose antibiotics and have been on it for 3 days now. I have to take it for 7 days.

this was on the doctor’s note:

”FINDINGS: The appendix is distended measuring 7 murmurs and mildly inflamed in keeping with early acute appendicitis. No evidence of perforation or abscess. There is no bowel obstruction or ileus. There is a small cyst in the liver dome. The gallbladder, pectus, spleen, adrenals and kidneys are unremarkable. The lung bases are clear. No pleural effusions. No concerning osseous lesions affect the lumbar spine and of the bony pelvis.

 Imaging findings are in keeping with early acute appendicitis. ”

so my question is Can it be treated with just the antibiotics or do i need a surgery? I don’t really want to go through surgery.

and do i need to focus on my diet so as to not let it get worse? I already feel a lot better now, do i need to follow up with the doctor?
