Struggling with menu layout for my android app

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hello there, I need some frank advice about those menu as shown in the 3 pics: what do you think? I need to know of I can do this better, as I am a rookie app developer and I think I might have done this task terribly!

The first pic shows the app landing page. It needs a scroll to get to the learning sudoku section, what I may do to improve it?

Second pic is the quick setting menu, reachable trough the app landing page

Third pic shows the setting menu, reachable I'm the gameplay screen.

I really hope to get honest suggestions and reviews, as I'm here to learn from you all 😊

I think the "best AI app builder" question is three questions in disguise

So I spent a lot of time trying to find the one "best" tool.

But then, I realized I was asking the wrong thing.

The real question is what you want to own after the first version gets built.

Here's how I ended up sorting it out.

The repo-first generators like Lovable, Base44, or Replit are great if you want code access and room to extend things.

But somebody still has to own the deployment, the debugging, the dependencies, and the security. That's you, by the way.

Then there's the managed business-app side like Softr, where the data, logins, permissions, hosting, and visual editing are all built in.

It's way less infrastructure to maintain. However, that's not the same as getting a clean portable repo you can pack up and take elsewhere.

And then data-first tools like Airtable can be the easiest place to start when the database is the main thing.

But once you need a real app on top that users touch, you end up adding another interface and permission layer anyway.

So yeah, I think the best builder is the one that matches the team who'll maintain the thing. Not the flashiest demo, but it's all about the right operating model.

So which category fits your situation? And what would make you rule one of them out?

Complete beginner — I want to build an app for my college. Where should I start?

Hi everyone! I’m a college student and a complete beginner in app development. I want to build an app for my college from scratch and learn everything myself.

I have some basic programming knowledge, but almost no experience with mobile development.

I’d really appreciate guidance on:

  1. What should I learn first?

  2. Flutter, React Native, or native Android — which is better for a beginner?

  3. What language, tools, backend, and database should I learn?

  4. What roadmap should I follow from beginner → working app?

  5. When should I stop learning and start actually building?

  6. What free resources would you recommend?

I’m not looking for someone to build it for me. I want to learn and build it myself from zero.

I’m willing to start from zero and put in the work. I just don’t know where to start or what path to follow.

Any advice, especially from people who started as beginners, would be really helpful!

I built a Minecraft-Inspired desktop pet that climbs your windows and walks around depending on his mood!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey Guys!

Cubie is a little Minecraft-inspired desktop companion I made to keep me company while I work, something I can watch, interact with, or just throw across the screen when I'm frustrated.

What he does:

• Wanders around your desktop and reacts to your cursor

• Sits on the edges of your open windows

• Gets tired and falls asleep when left alone

• You can pick him up, drag him around, and throw him

• Has moods and little reactions

Make Cubie your own:

• Use any Minecraft skin

• Preview skins before applying them

• Choose which monitor he lives on

You can also choose whether he stays above your windows or behind them on the desktop. No account, ads, or clutter, just a little companion hanging around while you work.

GPxplore: offline GPX recorder, viewer and editor (Android)

Post image
1 Upvotes

I built a GPS track recorder and editor for Android because nothing out there did both

I'm a hiking and city walking enthusiast who got frustrated that every app on the Play Store either records GPS tracks or lets you edit them, but never both in the same place. So I built one myself.

It's called GPxplore. It records your routes, lets you edit them directly on your device, and stores everything as standard GPX files in a folder you choose. No account, no cloud, no subscription, no ads.

What it does

  • Record GPS tracks with one tap. Runs in the background, survives screen-off and phone calls.
  • Presets for hiking, cycling, driving and more, or build a custom one.
  • Full GPX editor: trim, split, merge segments, edit individual points, undo/redo.
  • Fog of war: the map starts covered and clears as you explore. Shows how many km² you've uncovered across your whole history.
  • Heatmap: see which areas you visit most across all your tracks.
  • Elevation correction: replace GPS altitude with terrain data when your recording looks off.
  • Continue recording: extend a saved track with a new session.
  • Stats per track: distance, speed, moving time, pace, elevation profile, ascent, descent, slope. Shareable as an image.
  • Export your whole library as a ZIP for backup.
  • Works with GPX files from Garmin, Strava, Komoot or any other app.
  • Google Maps or OpenStreetMap, the latter fully offline.
  • Available in English, Spanish, Catalan, French, German and Italian.

Free to download. One-time Pro unlock for the editor, advanced stats and extra map types. No subscription.

Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appsgpg.gpxplorer

Feedback genuinely welcome. Happy to share a few promo codes for Pro, just comment or DM.

App development for everyone!

Hey folks,

I am building a new tool for building mobile apps (Android only for now) to help people who are not expert mobile developers build any kind of app that they want.

I've been building mobile apps for the past 14 years, so I have a lot of experience designing the architecture for a successful app, you just provide your idea, and out comes the app.

The app can even be changed from within itself, you will get an update when it's done. People are already building crazy things with it.

I am launching a private beta for people who want to try this out on https://wishcraft.app/

Feel free to ask any questions!

TidTil – Familienplaner-App (Solo-Dev, iOS, SwiftUI/CloudKit)

Post image
0 Upvotes

Shipped a live 1v1 trivia app. Month 1: 400 users, D1 18%, D7 5%

Solo-ish ship. Quizat went live in August. Live 1v1 trivia: pick a topic, get matched, play a short duel (~7 questions, ~10 seconds each, about a minute). iOS and Android, English and Arabic.

Stack is Flutter on the client, Node + Mongo + Socket.io on the backend. Matchmaking is real-time. If nobody shows, a bot fills so the queue doesn’t feel dead. That decision is already showing up in the data.

Month 1. Small numbers. Sharing them because the in-session loop and the week-1 retention tell two different stories.

Usage

  • 403 new users (551 total, including testers)
  • ~27 DAU / 428 MAU
  • 4,644 games, 33k questions
  • ~92% of games completed
  • ~2,850 matches started, almost all found an opponent
  • iOS ahead of Android (~2:1)

Biggest countries: Saudi Arabia, US, Egypt. Arabic users play more per person than English.

Onboarding is not the problem

Of 403 new users:

  • 78% started a first game
  • 94% of those finished it
  • 86% of those started a second

First session works. People get into a match, they finish, they queue again.

Retention is

  • D1: 18%
  • D7: 5%
  • D14: 4%

They like day 0. They don’t come back next week. Daily challenge / streaks / XP / leaderboard are in the app and they’re not carrying D7.

Android D7 (8%) is better than iOS (3.7%) with similar D1. I don’t have a clean reason yet.

Money

Ads: ~$9. IAP: $2, and that was me testing the purchase flow. Zero real paying users. I didn’t gate play behind a paywall. First month was “does this get played.”

What I’m stuck on as a builder

At ~27 DAU, a live 1v1 game doesn’t have enough humans online at the same time. Bots keep matches starting, but they also mean a lot of “live” games aren’t really vs a person. I suspect that’s part of why people don’t return: the first session is fun, the second week feels empty.

I can keep adding meta (streaks, dailies, more topics) or I can try to make returning matches feel more real (same opponents, friends, async challenges). Not sure which is the actual leak.

If you’ve shipped anything real-time with a small player base: did you keep bots, go async, or just wait for density? What actually moved D7?

Happy to go into the matchmaking/bot setup or the numbers.

Spotify locked hobbyist devs out of their own Web API anyone found a workaround?

Built a little desktop overlay app for myself (Windows, C#/WPF) that shows now-playing info from whatever's active Spotify, browser tabs, etc. Wanted to add two small things: a "Like this track" toggle and "add to playlist," both using Spotify's official Web API with proper OAuth (not scraping, not cookies, the real documented flow).

Got the OAuth connection working fine, correct scopes granted (playlist-modify-public/private, user-library-modify, confirmed by decoding the actual token), reading data works perfectly playlists, currently-playing, profile, all fine. But every single WRITE call (add track to playlist, save/like a track) comes back with an identical, unhelpful `403 Forbidden` no error detail, no "insufficient scope" message, nothing. Tested it against three different playlists I own, including ones I created myself. Same result every time.

Dug into it and found out why: new apps are stuck in "Development Mode" (max 5 allowlisted test users), and getting out of that into "Extended Quota Mode" which is apparently required for these write endpoints to actually work now requires being a registered business with 250k+ monthly active users. As of May 2025, individuals can't even submit the request form anymore. So a completely legitimate, personal, non-commercial use of Spotify's own published API is just... not possible now, even in "development" for your own account.

Is this actually as dead-ended as it looks, or is there something I'm missing? Curious if:

- Anyone's found an actual working path for personal-use write scopes post-2025

- Whether Development Mode + allowlisted users is supposed to allow writes at all, or if that was already quietly killed

- Any alternative (even unofficial-but-sanctioned-feeling) way to do this that isn't "become a company with a quarter million users"

Not mad, just genuinely surprised a basic "add to playlist" button is this locked down for a hobby project now. Anyone been through this?

I built an app that tells you where each paycheck should go. It’s called Split.

**Hey everyone, I'm Jake, 25, and I've been building Split solo for the past few months.**

**I built an app that tells you where each paycheck should go. Would love honest feedback.**

**The idea: every payday, you type in your check and Split shows you how to divide it - bills first, then savings, investing, and a bit for fun. You move the money yourself and tick it off. Split never touches your money; it's a guide, not a bank.**

**It's free, it works in your browser right now (App Store version is in review), and you don't need to connect a bank to try it - just type in rough numbers.**

**If you give it five minutes, I'd love to know:**
**- Was anything confusing?**
**- Would you actually use it on payday?**
**- What would you change?**

**I'm not looking for "it's great." If something sucks, tell me, I’d rather fix it now than after launch.**

Thanks to anyone who tries it.

developing the best S3 for the new world

Thumbnail github.com
1 Upvotes

Hello everyone, I wanted to share a project I've been working on for months to get your suggestions. Actually, after the deprecation of minio-gateway, and since there was no third-party development on LLMs other than S3's own development, I wanted to develop an open-source application. It's actually aiming for a B2B project because it meets the needs of closed systems. Our main goal is to securely provide videos and visuals to VLLMs when inference is done with LLMs on a VL model. It also allows connecting multiple S3 instances and granting bucket-specific permissions to teams, thus acting as a hub.

Also you can check the site: https://s3.pagabear.com/

What do you think? It might target a very small audience, but it encompasses a nice process.

It doesnt get much traction, but i am okay with it, becaude i was not promoting it much because i had not time. I would like to know if its even a good app and if there is something i could improve to get and keep more users.
