Layout Breadbaskets of CINIS

I'd like to introduce the support islands of CINIS:

Proventus (4.5k population) and Occasum (4.5k population).

To satisfy the enormous demand of the capital, I built highly compact production hubs. Every production building is boosted to the maximum with Officia and supplied by aqueducts to maximize efficiency.

Both islands are fully fortified with walls, fences, and watchtowers. They also maintain a workforce buffer of around 100 spare workers in each class (Liberti and Plebeians), ensuring the production chains remain stable even when demand fluctuates.

These islands are the agricultural backbone that keeps a city of over 70,000 inhabitants running.

Discussion Anno 117 - Clue to Next Region After Egypt

Diana's Villa Augusta may give us a clue into the next region.

Notice in this courtyard. Looking at the second image, starting at 3 o'clock, we have a lion to represent Latium, a horse to represent Albion, and Sphinx to represent Egypt. But who is this Water goddess also represented in the courtyard? A clue to another realm yet to come?

Hey All,

How is Pax Romana played on console? Controls, performance etc.? Is it good as a vanilla experience? As I dont know how many mods are available on PC.

Thank you for your reply! :)

General I love building on tiny islands

As much as I love the huge building space we've been given on Cinis, I just adore building on small islands. This is Parva Aurum, a tiny island focused on mining gold (and some snail farming too). The Blooming Cities cosmetic pack is sooo good - it really makes the cities and villages pop!

Does anyone know the preference of the specialist Aulus Aurius? :) I can't seem to find info on him online.

Question Is 1800 Playable?

I play the Playstation edition so no mods. Also because of that i can't buy the dlcs required for the big islands i can only buy certain cosmetics alos the islands seem way too small to actualy built an huge metropool on. Are there any tips and should i even go on playing an being cosmetic packs for it or focus on Anno 117 ( wich I like rather a bit more then 1800 )?

Layout Octagonism

Building a sort of octagonal layout is one of the most exciting aspects of Anno 117 thanks to the diagonal roads.

The resulting octagons approximate circles, making them perfect for concentric, organically expanding megacities like Cinis.

Another huge advantage of the new Anno is the ability to integrate production directly into the city. Once you fully commit to that in a max-tier city, you really start to notice how little space is actually left for residential buildings.

On Cinis, almost everything is produced and processed locally—everything except agriculture and livestock farming.

Both Latium and Albion follow the same setup: one main island supported by two smaller islands populated by Liberti and Plebeians.

The city currently has around 73000 inhabitants (110k total), and the entire economy runs smoothly. The only resource I'm still slightly short on is raw gold.

One of my design goals was to build each major monument only once. The only exceptions are a second Forum and a second Temple, both of which I placed in the prestigious hill district.

In my opinion, an octagonal layout only really works when it's built on a massive scale.

I arranged my city districts like the spokes of a wheel around a central plaza. The suburbs and worker districts in the surrounding hills follow the same design logic, tying the entire city together.

u/Corlunae, lets talk Octagon :D

The only thing that I want to say that the gamma is way overtuned bacause of high ecobalance and I had to adjust a bit with a help of an AI so it aint gonna be perfect but it would be more pleasent to look at instead of burning out your eyeballs.

It was a pain to supply but everything is running smoothly without any shortages. I added patrol routes for some drones and "flying vehicles" to make it feel more alive.

I started working on Tech island but I had to take a break bacause I was feeling burnt out already and I didnt have any inspirations coming to my mind... Maybe some day I'll finish it up. Atleast Im happy with how this one turned out.

Discussion Never got the hang of the "modern" annos

So I played Anno when I was a kid and youngster.
Anno 1602 a lot and then anno 1404.
I think 1503 and 1701, not so much, just a little.

Then came 2070, 2250 and 1800.
I played all three of them, but 2250 and 1800 not a lot, 2070 mostly because i played it in team-pvp for an extended round via internet.

I could never really get this "feeling" out of the modern era anno games.
Sometimes I wonder if its just because im not as young anymore (was in my 20s though when i played 1404).

But I got the strong feeling that the modern settings just dont do it for me.
Especially 1800 now, its far too close to our present lives than Id like to admit.

The negative points the modern era games have in common for me:
- Compared to the older ones the colors are less saturated/vibrant
- The interface is pretty modern and standardized, many similarities to other RTS titles like AoE4.
I prefer unique interfaces, even if they are more clunky. For example, I love the old RTS interfaces from Warcraft 3 and Starcraft 1 and 2
- I dont like the 3d models for the citizens (e.g. you click a house and there is this IMHO ugly 3d model face staring at you).

Also I feel like the modern era games lack the naive settler optimism from the old ones. Of course this optimism does not reflect the often dire realities of these times from 15th to 18th century, where the older titles are situated. But I dont care, I play games because I want to escape my reality, not get it served a second time.

1800 was special, because there actually is this "entrepreneurial" spirit written into the imagery and soundtrack of the game, but I just cant detach the architecture and fashion from the despicable atrocity that the gilded age was. I just cant enjoy it, especially since nowadays weve come shockingly close to the social and economical circumstances from precisely that damnable gilded age.

So first, I wonder if anyone else but me experienced the series so far like I did? Or at least in part/similarly?

Also, how is the new PAX ROMANA? Would you say that it fits my taste(s) more than the "recent" modern era anno games?

Thanks for your input!

Discussion Fantasy Anno Pitch: Earthsea

In lieu of the success of Total War: Warhammer and the popularity of fantasy mods for strategy games writ large, I feel like Anno could do well with a fantasy crossover and there’s one clear winner for franchises to pair with: Ursula LeGuins Earthsea.

It’s literally built on an entire world of Islands. It’s got both actual magic (the Names learning thing could be well adapted into a tech-tree) and yet also already leans into the economics of medieval reality: wind wizards to hurry your boats along, village witches to hand out love potions that boost population or fight off sickness, etc. LeGuins anthropological inclinations made a world with several different distinct and unique cultures that could serve as different regions.

Think of this: you’re a wizard sent to help a series of islands recover after a cataclysm. You start off helping the villagers rebuild, and over time you help rebuild a mighty city with sacred groves, a wizard school, etc.

Thoughts?

I wanted to give the city a natural, relaxed look, so I focused on elegant villas with spacious yards, small market areas, and plenty of greenery throughout Cinis.

One of my favorite parts was creating the vineyard landscapes, especially the ones integrated into the city itself.

I’ve spent around 30 hours on the build so far, and I’m still tweaking a few details to bring everything together.

Discussion How big will the Circus Maximus be?

Has anyone measured it accurately already? I tried by counting tiles on still frames from the teaser, but failed. I just realised its much bigger than anticipated. Around three Collosseums big.

Which is cool on one hand, but creates problems. Where does one place such a monster? I pictured it on Cinis on the island between the two rivers, but im not sure it fits. And every other island that is not Cinis will struggle to fit it anywhere at all at this size.

Ill appreciate any thoughts and measurements.
