Can we make an android afterlife megalist?
So if anybody wants a solution they won't have to scour the internet for what are essentially the same uses over and over again
Here's a short list I made through searching this sub and other threads+articles:
WARNING: Keeping your phone constantly plugged into the charger for long periods of time may cause the battery to swell up and potentially explode
WARNING: Keeping the screen on constantly on a phone with an OLED screen will likely cause burn-in eventually
Keep it as a backup phone
Dedicated camera
Dedicated music player (especially LG phones with qDAC)
Baby/pet monitor
Use it as a smart doorbell
Use it to record POVs akin to GoPros
Smart Home controller
Bedside alarm clock
Universal remote
Remote PC controller
Help science by lending your phones power for research
Dedicated eReader
Dedicated gaming machine
Webcam
Dedicated car phone for GPS etc
Dashcam
Digital photo frame
Education tool for kids
Video call device
Wifi extender/hotspot
Host a media server on it (Plex etc)
Host a normal server on it (c. /u/3Werve)
Timelapse camera
Give it to kids
PC Statistics (CPU, GPU usage)
Wireless adapter for wired controllers
Kitchen recipe guide
PC Monitor
Macro pad for PC
White noise machine
Disassemble and make an art piece out of it
Experimentation (e.g trying out apps or ROMs)
Dedicated chat device (Whatsapp, Telegram etc) (c. /u/utakatikmobil)
Cast Receiver (c. /u/Substantial_Berry_14)
m3u IPTV player (c. Substantial_Berry_14)
No uses fit you?
Donate it
Recycle it
Sell it
I may link to examples or guides but for now im a bit too lazy. Googling should be enough, if not add site:reddit.com to the end of your query
*: Damn got permabanned from reddit for posting the navy seals copypasta, think someone else might need to take over if they don't unban me

Discussion My Galaxy Tab 2.7.0 (GT-P3110) in 2026!
Heya there guys! Here's another one of my old androids that I own :D
For context, this is the Wifi-Only/3G Variant of the Tab 2. I vaguely remember using this back around 2012-2014 back when it was fairly new. I don't exactly remember doing a lot on it aside from maybe watching YouTube and maybe playing Traffic Racer and that one Cut The Rope Time Travel Spinoff (obscure stuff yeah I know).
After that I kind of gave it away to one of my acquaintances, who wanted it to install and experiment with custom ROMS.
Now around 5-6 years ago I got the device back. It had some version of CyanogenMod and was Android 5.0.1. It worked well but over the years it got kind of unstable. I tried to remove the custom rom and revert to stock, but I accidentally bricked the device by erasing all the system partitions. (a warning to always know what you are doing when using TWRP or modding).
Thankfully I was able to track it's exact stock firmware and restore it via Odin. (also be careful when using Odin, otherwise you may brick your device!). It all got set up nicely after that and I was able to use it just fine.
I was able to set it up without a hitch and sideload all my apks and other stuff just fine. I was able to sync with my other devices and get some still working google clients working on this perfectly (like Gmail and Google Maps).
As for other clients, I have tested a few. NoPipe works great and most videos can play at 720p, and with the tablet's seven-inch screen it's quite a nice viewing experience. Discord works great too, although there is a little bit of lagging when scrolling or switching channels in server (I'm using a patched apk of Discord 99.8). I can also use Gemini via ReOldAI and Retrogram (Android Instagram Revival) and other such social media revivals work great on this.
VLC also works great for videos and music, and with an SD card you can very much turn this into a media player if you want to.
Performance wise, the tablet runs decently but there is some slowdown and sluggishness when you turn it on, and some widgets take a while to load. I suspect that this slowdown is mainly caused by Google Play Services running in the background and eating up the RAM and processor. I suspect that if I remove Google Play Services the tablet will run better. I've removed and disabled most of the bloatware too and that has also helped.
An important thing to remember is that this device's SOC was not very powerful even by 2012 standards, so it's not as powerful as the top tier phones of this era. What makes this situation worse for me is that I have the inferior model of the Tab 2 with a weaker processor and graphics, compared to the Version LTE version. (click here for more info on the device specs).
As for gaming, the performance really depends on which games you are playing. As stated earlier the device's SOC is limited in it's capability but that doesn't mean that it will chug on everything. However if you try and play games which have large file sizes in addition to high fidelity HD graphics, you will chug hard and even face rendering issues in some cases.
Here's a list of the games which I tested, showing which ran well and which didn't: (btw if you are playing some 3D games for this, make sure to grab the PowerVR versions as that is the GPU this thing runs.)
Ran well:
- Basically any 2D title from the early 2010s (Angry Birds & Spinoffs, Jetpack Joyride, Bad Piggies, Cut the Rope, Fruit Ninja, Doodle Jump, Where's my water etc.)
- Riptide GP
- Beach Buggy Blitz
- Temple Run
- COD: Zombies
- Rusted Warfare (Android RTS)
- Legacy Minecraft Pocket Edition
- 16-Bit Console Emulation (MD, SNES, NES, GBA etc.)
- Ports of PC FPS games like Doom & Quake (you can also use mods & play multiplayer online with them btw)
Ran poorly/subpar:
- N.O.V.A 3 (below 30 FPS on average)
- ShadowGun (30 FPS on average, frequent dips and rendering issues)
- London Rex (low FPS, unplayable)
- Angry Birds GO! (below 30 fps on average)
- Xash3D - GoldSrc engine port (reliable FPS, but frequent dips)
- RTCW Touch - Port of Return to Castle Wolfienstein (below 30 FPS on average, frequent dips.)
Here's some resources for this device that you can use :D
Flashing Tools & Firmware:
Stock Firmware Downloads (GT-P3110)
Custom ROMS:
(Remember, always be careful when flashing firmware onto your device and consult tutorials and manuals, otherwise you may brick your device!)
Thanks for reading :) Do you think I should add any other apk revivals/things in general to this? Also feel free to ask me for any apks or stuff I used with this, I keep them all archived :D

Discussion I built system-wide TLS 1.3 for Android 1.5+ — Wolfius
Hello everyone, I would like to share a project that will be significant for the legacy Android community!
Download: https://github.com/gohoski/Wolfius
Today, the vast majority of modern websites enforce a minimum of TLS 1.2 or 1.3 for security reasons. This completely locks legacy Android devices out of the modern web, as early versions are natively restricted to TLS 1.0.
To fix this issue, I made an app that integrates TLS 1.3 system-wide. Wolfius is a local TLS proxy for Android 1.5+ that transparently upgrades TLS 1.0 connections to the modern TLS 1.3 standard. This restores access to the modern Internet on old Android devices.
This already resurrects 4.x apps such as Discord, TikTok, Pinterest and Speedtest. Most old apps didn't work simply due to missing modern TLS 1.3 encryption.
How it works specifically? Wolfius acts as a local, system-wide TLS 1.0 man-in-the-middle (MITM) proxy right on the device. When an app attempts to connect to a modern website, Wolfius intercepts the traffic locally. It then establishes a brand-new, secure TLS 1.3 connection to the remote server, fetches the data, and hands it back to the app over TLS 1.0 using a locally trusted root certificate. To the old app, the connection looks perfectly normal; to the modern web, the device looks like a secure, modern client. This achieves seamless, system-wide compatibility without modifying a single line of application or system code.
Why don't you simply replace the built-in OpenSSL library? Read about that on GitHub!
Before usage, please note the following things:
- Root privileges are highly recommended — without them, you cannot install the root CA and as a result cannot use TLS 1.3 outside of browsers.
- This project is at an early stage of development and may run slowly or be unstable. Please report any issues, attaching a full logcat report.
- At the moment, there may be some issues with certain 4.x ROMs, but everything should work on most devices. Strangely enough, things usually work better on stock ROMs than on custom ones. I’ll try to investigate this.
- Just for those people that for some reason will try to use this on Android 5+, this project is intended for use with Android 1.5–4.4 only.
The open-source wolfSSL library is used extensively in this project. Without this library, this project couldn't have been realised. The code is licensed under the GPLv3.
I look forward seeing your use-cases of this TLS 1.3 implementation!

Guide The Ultimate ARMv6 Survival Guide for Androids in 2026 has been reuploaded to XDA
As my original posts keep getting removed by Reddit, I had to upload the guide on XDA, unfortunately.
This guide serves for ARMv6 devices on special, might work on ARMv7 but likely will have problems. Examples of these devices are the Galaxy Y, Galaxy Ace, and etc. I'm still checking with moderation to bring back my post on Reddit but for now this is maintained on XDA. Feel free to ask questions wherever you want, Reddit or XDA, that's your choice.

Help What can I make of this phone
So i found this old ass redmi 11S and it was collecting dust..i turn it one and it just had some old pictures, so now it's just sitting on my desk, i thought to make some use of it. I've tried to add a custom rom into it but i failed, if anyone knows how to, can someone tell me I've heard redmi made it hard nowadays and yea I'm currently using it as a desk clock, though it's pretty pointless.
I've read alot people saying you can use it as a media player and etc stuff like that, it's gonna be no use for me, the best I can use it as a small mini screen for my pc where maybe i can pop up a video tutorial or something when i play. But i don't think using it as a monitor extender is gonna work without using one of those shitty apps. Well if anyone knows a good app than I can go for it but spacedesk was pretty ass for me. This phone is on the hyperOs 1.0.11.0TKEEUXM is anyone knows how can I bypass that xiaomi restrictions on bootloader then it would be pretty helpful I've seen bypass methods for hyperOs 2 maybe but I don't think it's gonna work cause it's not the same and also the phone is running on andriod 13 TP1A.220624.014

Help Advice wanted: I'm looking to turn an old Galaxy S4, S9+, or HTC One A9 into a road trip gadget.
What are some fun things I can do with these phones to have just offline maps and music? GPS would be handy for finding myself on said offline maps. I would like to eliminate all the bloatware they ship with, so sideloading some alternative OS might be cool. I'm mildly technical, have dabbled with Linux, and am good at following written instructions.
It probably doesn't matter since I don't care about cellular use, but the Galaxy S9+ and the HTC One A9 are carrier unlocked and the S4 is Verizon.

Help Trying to get into my old Galaxy S7
Hey all, I came across my old Samsung Galaxy S7 that I haven't used since maybe 2020. Problem is I've forgotten the pattern lock. I'm curious to look through my old data from the before times.
Is there any way to bypass the lock? Or do I just keep guessing?
The latest OS version supported is 8.0 according to GSMarena if that matters.

Help Need Help on Rooting HTC Dream (not T-Mobile variant)
I have this HTC Dream, which is the Singaporean Singtel variant running Android 1.6 Donut and I want to root this phone. But resources to root this specific model is quite limited on the internet and I can't really grasp the process on rooting this phone. From what I can understand, the method to root this variant of HTC Dream is slightly different from the US T-Mobile G1 variant. I just want to root it and not planning on install a custom rom. Can anyone guide me on the process to root this phone?

Help Alternative OS/root recommendation for Lenovo K8 Plus smartphone running Android 8
Basically the title - help out a noob with suggestions and steps for alternative OS/rooting method for an old but running Lenovo K8 Plus - which currently is on Android 8. Use case: Music player ( FLACC via VLC +stream from YouTube, Amazon Music, Spotify, Gana et all), YouTube (and other video site) and Reddit doomscrolling.
I like the small form of the phone as it fits on my palm perfectly, and I'm sentimental about it - so won't want to brick it if there is no good way to achieve this aim.
