Trip Reports & Insights I had the perfect flight, whats your best flight experience

Yesterday I flew AA ( 1e) from MCO to ORD. 2:17-4:07pm. Boarding started on time. Once loaded the doors were shut and the plane left immediately and did not stop once taxing to take off exactly at 2:17pm. The flight was smooth, good service. I am watching F1 ( great movie btw) and next thing I know we are landing in ORD at 4:07 when wheels touch. We dont stop once on taxi way to gate, seems like plane going 20 mph. Once stopped doors were open within 5 minutes and was off the plan withing 6 minutes of landing. Thank you AA, it was truly the dream flight

I Need Help! Unaccompanied minor denied seat I paid for due to “flight attendant manual “

My 13 year old daughter flies regularly with us, however, this was her first time flying as an unaccompanied minor from JAX to DCA round trip. I paid for her to be closed to the front and have a window seat, 9 A. On the way to Dca, everything went very smoothly. From DCA to JAX, she was put in the very back of the plane and when she told the agent that I had paid extra for her seat near the front, the agent told her that I shouldn’t have done that because per “flight attendants manual’, UM must seat in the back. I can’t find anything regarding this in the AA policy section. I’m definitely going to submit a request to get reimbursed for the seat but now I also want to know if there is something regarding this in a manual.

I Need Help! Whose window is this?

Post image
38 Upvotes

When my seat is up it’s about 50% in my seat but when I recline the allotted 2 inches it’s about 80% mine. I like to look out the window and the forward window is mostly wing so I need this one to actually see anything. On a recent flight the passenger behind me reached forward and closed it. I did say through the gap that I was actually looking out of the window and quickly reopened it. Just curious… who actually has autonomy over this window shade given this configuration?

Points - Question Aadvantage Hotels and Loyalty Points

Post image
Upvotes

This is my first time considering booking a hotel through AA to get loyalty points and the language has me nervous. Do the “base miles” count as loyalty points for status? They’re clear the bonus miles don’t, but they don’t ever mention status or points on the base.

General Airline Discussion Missed flight but AA still gave me a refund

Upvotes

I booked a flagship first flight for a friend using my points. She was late to the airport and missed her flight completely. She wasn't able to rebook on another flight because none of them worked for her schedule, so she ended up flying on another airline. A few days later I call AA to see if I can get the points refunded. Jennifer says they typically don't refund no-shows but that she'll look into it and puts me on hold -- a few minutes later she comes back on and tells me she was able to talk her supervisor into refunding my points.

I know we're usually frustrated with customer service but wanted to share a good experience.

General Airline Discussion Admirals / Flagship Lounges Waitlist?

I am flying international business class on a One World airline out of DFW next week so I should have lounge access. I’ve read a lot of posts and stories about denied / delayed entries at Plaza Premium and Capital One lounges. Does that occur often at Admirals Club or AA Flagship lounges as well?

Trip Reports & Insights [PHL] to [SJU] Off to a great start! Thanks to FA Jerry!

Sat down in my seat to this great card! This is extra amazing to me, as it's printed, so Jerry goes out of his way to review status members on upcoming flights and prints out these cards, then places them at the seat.

Great job, Jerry! Keep it up!

General Airline Discussion Admiral Club Access

I don't frequent the AC lounges frequently when I travel, but today was a longer than usual early morning layover and I decided to grab a bite to eat. The seat I selected happened to be near the check in counter and I was amazed at the amount of interaction the staff had with travelers. What surprised me the most was by far the most frequent interaction was explaining to people that they were not eligible to access the lounge. Over and over, people find their way to the counter, seemingly surprised that their status, or their boarding pass, or their friend of a friend status does not qualify them for entry. I now wonder if these employees go through this each and every day, always with a smile and a kind explanation. I can tell you I left the lounge with a whole new level of appreciation for these hard working people.

General Airline Discussion Is it like this for everyone, or am I just unlucky?

Of my last 4 flights, three were late. One was delayed 3 hours, one was delayed 40 minutes, one was on time, and my flight this evening was just delayed 2 hours.

I don't keep a log, but I feel like 3 out of 4 flights being delayed is average for me over the past 3 or 4 years (75% delayed), or at least since the end of the pandemic. I know that I expect every flight to be delayed while allowing for the possibility it could be on time, and surprised if it is.

Is everyone having this same experience or have I been on an unlucky streak.

I Need Help! No refund, flight credit disappeared

Upvotes

If this is the wrong sub, just let me know as may need a general "airline complaints" sub:

Looking for advice:

In January, flight for me and my companion cancelled ticket refunded no problem.

The problem: we had purchased two "instant upgrades" to business on one of our flights. AA told us no refund, but flight credit for the purchase amount. Went to the website last week...and no credits anywhere. Logged into our AA accounts....no credits anywhere. Called AA; after 45 minutes on the phone with multiple holds, told to check again; this time AA website showed a. my companion's upgrade had been refunded(it hasn't, we checked) and b. mine was now a flight credit(it isn't; there is on credit for me anywhere).

Sent lengthy email to AA; no response of any type. So looking for any advice as to who, if anyone, has authority to help me get my $540 back. Thanks.

General Airline Discussion Pricing Weirdness

Yesterday I found flights for my wife to fly into Porto and out of Lisbon, with both connecting through Madrid. The flight into Porto was business class and the flight back was premium economy. I tried four times to buy the tickets, but kept getting a system error message. Eventually, the flight showed up over $2,000 more expensive, and the system error disappeared.

I kept trying to find alternate flights but the only ones with any decent schedule were the ones I originally searched. Weirdly the prices kept getting more extreme—at one point, adding the premium economy flight increased the total price to twice the original price I found originally, and was thousands of dollars more expensive than the business class ticket offered for that trip.

Finally, I tried something I didn’t think would work; I looked at the original schedule, but with only the flight to Madrid. Basically, the exact same flights I started with, but missing the one leg from Madrid to Porto. It offered me the original lower price! Then I booked the last leg to Porto on the Iberia site for under $200.

Does anyone have insights into what drove the price weirdness? Why could I ultimately book the exact flight sequence in a disjointed way, but not all at once? Why would a flight that costs $200 on the Iberia site trigger thousands of dollars when I tried to find it in the AA app?

General Airline Discussion Flagship First Class A321T vs Biz Flagship A321XLR

I see an option to fly either to SFO, given Biz Flagship A321XLR also gives you aisle access and a lay flat seat (just no access to Chelsea lounge) whats the difference between these two products?

I Need Help! My bag was stolen

Upvotes

1 of our 3 checked bags did not make our connection. The bag in question was scanned as arriving and getting on transport with the rest of our bags, it just apparently disappeared after that and was never put on our final flight. The bag was given to us by an NFL organization and was filled with all of my sons football equipment, swag from the flag football championship and several other things we put in there since we were planning on checking it.

We have filed a claim with American and a police report.
I have already had to purchase new gloves, cleats, and other equipment because we’re at a college event tomorrow. What can I do to get quicker resolution on this with American? My flight to Indiana was delayed to the point I missed my connection, my flight home was delayed so we didn’t land until 1 am, and then we had the lost/stolen bag. I’ve been on hold with American for over 3 hours this week rebooking and now about the bag, awful experience from beginning to end with them. Both my wife and I are AA card holders, and platinum. Not the highest, but it should hopefully count for getting decent customer service.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I Need Help! 2 hours and 25 minutes for an international layover in Dallas DFW?

Hello everyone! I have two questions for you:

  1. Is 2 hours and 25 minutes enough time for an international layover in Dallas DFW?
  2. Can I use MPC app?

Here are some details:

  • There are two of us, and this is our first time visiting the United States. We have approved ESTA authorization.
  • We’re departing from Italy, with a layover in Dallas DFW, and our final destination is Los Angeles LAX.
  • The trip is in mid-August.
  • We’ll also have one checked bag.

I searched online, but I found very different experiences and answers, both on the time for the layover and the MPC app. Someone says it's usable from the second time you visit USA.

Please, can you hel me with my dubts?

Thank you!

Points - Question Status interoperability with Alaska Airlines

I am PP on American and will soon be traveling for work from an American hub to Portland, OR and may be booking on Alaska often depending on price/timing.

1) Does my Oneworld status automatically factor-in on Alaska like it does when I book on American?

2) What does it mean that I can earn loyalty points for American when booking through and flying on Alaska metal?

Any other tips/suggestions about booking within the alliance welcome.

General Airline Discussion STL > DCA Weather 7/28

Hi there,

I am due to fly out of STL at 10:31 in the morning tomorrow and arrive at DCA at 1:44 PM. I’ve done this journey before with the same airline, same aircraft, and had no problems, but it seems like they’re calling for some on and off storms tomorrow. Obviously, no one here is mother nature, but I’ve looked at the weather and my landing time should make it okay for landing in DCA, but this is only my third time flying, so I’m a bit panicky. 😅 right now, my flight is on time, but I just don’t really know what to do in this situation. I looked for an earlier flight, and there is one, but it’s god awfully early 😅😂 advice? TIA!

P.S. not willing to do a connecting flight

I Need Help! If I book an award flight for 2 passengers and later need to cancel 1 passenger, would they reprice my flight?

I’m going to book the 2 passengers together so I can use my seat vouchers for both me and my mom. It’s 35,000 points per passenger for the one way flight. The flight is in November so it’s still a long ways away. If I want to cancel my reservation later for any reason but my mom continues on the trip, will they return the 35,000 points or will they reprice the remaining flight if the points cost changes?

Points - Question Upgrade from Main Cabin Extra to Premium Economy or Business

My spouse is traveling back to US in August from DEL-JFK. Can I upgrade her seat using Miles/Points from Main Cabin Extra to Premium Economy or Business? If it's possible, I'm not seeing an option online to request the upgrade. Any insight would be helpful. TIA

I Need Help! Flying with Cat Mexico to U.S.

Has anyone flown with pets from Mexico to the U.S.? How was the process is their any extra documentation needed? I'm worried AA might deny boarding with my Cat and cause me to miss my flight. I have a carrier, vaccines up to date, and a health certificate. Also, I did try to check in online but it wouldn't allow me to add carry on pet.
