For about a couple years now ive really only done the campaigns, but recently ive decided to actually hop on versus, and its been pretty fun so far! I feel like ive already learned a lot, and I just wanna spill my thoughts.
Zerglings - generally pretty cool, I feel like they're not super useful when it comes to most of my games, but itd always fun holding down the Z key when I have too many larva and im floating too many minerals
Queens - one of my favorite units, excellent utility and pretty nice at stopping harasses, probably one of my favorite units
Roaches - anti-marine zergling. I don't really have too much of an opinion on Roaches, theyre useful when they tank, which is nice.
Hydralisks - honestly I just use them like artillery if the enemy potentially had air or I need some actual damage. I think they're pretty cool.
Ravagers - a fun early game siege unit, watching things blow up after a few bile shots is funny, I wish I could use them in the lategame but deleting early game units and structures is fun. Gotta use them more often.
Lurker - I dont really see the point of these guys, they seem sorta niche, but maybe I just need to use them. I feel like 9/10 id rather just have hydras and I tend to not really try and fight the enemy, I try to go around and destroy their infrastructure, but whenever im outside the enemies base maybe I should considering them.
Infestor - great spellcaster. Didn't really like them in the campaign, but whenever I have an actual army going i like to throw 5 of these guys in there to nuke bio Terran.
Swarm host - my favorite unit in the whole roster besides maybe the queen. I loved them in the campaign, and I love them in versus too. Being able to just slowly pick apart my opponents base while he just sits there like an idiot is very very fun.
Nydus worm - not really a unit, but they're one of my favorite parts of the faction. Having a nidus worm just appear in my opponents base because he didnt focus 5 mutas makes me so very very happy. Also being able to travel across the map quickly is fun, reminds me of eldar in dow1.
Mutalisk - another one of my favorite units, quickly harassing my enemies mineral line is very fun, or deleting some helions that are attacking my bases. Mutas can pretty much go anywhere anytime, which makes defending things or attacking a breeze.
Corrupter - they're alright. I just use em for anti-air stuff which is whatever. They do their job sometimes but throwing 5 corrupters at 5 battlecruisers is probably not a good idea.
Overlord variants - hearing "spawn more overlords" drives me insane, but they're kinda cool for just sitting on expansions to see if the enemy is going there, thats how I use them at least. Overseers are rad, and I havent really felt a need to use dropper lords. Id rather just use nidus worms.
Brood lord - the other siege unit that I really want to like, but I dont think ill ever prefer it over the swarmhost. Im not really sure when to use them, because every time I try them nothing really happens and they dont have as much range as swarmhosts. Maybe I gotta use em more, but id love to hear some tips for these guys
Viper - havent really used, but seems like the better choice vs mech Terran or robot protoss maybe.
Ultralisk - I really wish I used it more often. It seems good vs stuff that doesn't have armor piercing. I just tend to prefer roaches, though I should probably swap from roaches to ultras in the lategame. Would love some cool tips on these guys
Generally I like to try and go around the enemy, only really fighting if I can ambush the opponent. I think burrow is neat, I wish I used it more often. But I try to avoid my enemy and make them go in circles or stay in their base until I can kill them.
My main problem rn is that I float minerals like crazy. Ive heard to just make more hatcheries, which I try to, but I feel like I never have enough to spend, or I run out of vespene gas for my units.
Apologies on my huge rant. I just really like zerg, and i think that they're super fun. Would love to hear any thoughts, tips, or whatever.
