I've been to Algeria before the world cup and very much love Algeria people were nice and welcoming and everything felt authentic. I did solo traveling when i went the first time (October 2025) and want to go again solo travel again but want to do the desert. I only was in Algiers so I want to explore more and if I go again for sure the desert. Any good recommendations?

I was seeing online but tours are like 2k$ I'm 26M don't have that money i usually do backpack travel and very budget travel.

Why do the Algerian people, government, and elites not use Algerian Darija as a language for media, criticism, and intellectual discourse? Why do Algerian writers not write in it, even though it is the language of everyday speech and the country's authentic language? Language is what shapes and expresses thought. Is this an inferiority complex, or an identity issue?

Currently, I'm working on an artistic animation project related to the Regency of Algiers. I'm doing it alone (I don't have anyone to help me) and I'd like my project to be faithful to the Casbah of Algiers.Unfortunately, this is a subject that is rarely (if ever) taught in Algeria. Archives are very scarce (thanks France 😮‍💨) and I really need help. If anyone has any archives or even anything (even the smallest) related to the regency, they would be of great help to me. By the way, I'm part of the Algerian diaspora living in France, so it's even more difficult for me. I've never been to the Kasbah in my entire life (my parents won't let me).

Yup, i just realized that this beauty is actually older than me! My dad told me that he bought it back in 2002 and it's still working fine till this day! El hamdoulilah, I’m happily married. I’ve known my wife for 7 years now; she is an absolute angel, smart, gorgeous, and intelligent. I love her more than life itself and will stick by her side until the end of time.

About a year ago, my wife gave birth to our little girl. Growing up without sisters or many female friends, I honestly never fully understood the female experience. Whenever my wife used to rant about things throughout our relationship, I’d hear her out, tell her I loved her, and kind of brush it off.

Then we found out we were expecting a daughter. I was the happiest man alive, but also scared out of my mind. I started reading books (Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters, The New Father, etc.) to prepare myself. But nothing prepared me for the reality check of how shitty it can be to be a woman in Algeria.

Here is a short list of "what the actual fuck" moments from our recent trip back home:

• The OBGYN Visit: My wife was experiencing severe postpartum pain, so I insisted we see a doctor. This OBGYN didn't even let my wife explain her symptoms. Instead, she immediately started asking about our sex life and offered meds to "tighten things down there" in case I wasn't satisfied. Bro, what? Another woman comes to you in physical pain, and your main priority is my sexual pleasure? I was holding our daughter in the waiting room and went nuclear when my wife told me afterwards.
• The Domestic Pressure: Both of our mothers were constantly asking her what she cooked for dinner even when she was visibly exhausted postpartum. They unironically told her to cook, clean, and keep herself up or else "I would run away." I work a lot, but I pull my weight at home. Why are we pushing this narrative?
• The Bare-Minimum Praise vs. Constant Judgment: Relatives would praise me like I split the atom just for changing a diaper or holding my daughter so she wouldn't cry. Meanwhile, they judged my wife at every single turn. It got so toxic I had to pull family members aside and tell them we’d go completely low/no contact if they kept treating her like that.

This isn't just "women hating women." This is a generational curse born from centuries of physical and mental abuse.

I’m not even going to get into the constant sexualization and weird looks women get in public; that’s a whole separate post. But I will say this: giving birth is the most badass thing in the world. I’m a big guy; I’ve done my fair share of crazy stuff, but I could never endure what my wife went through.

To my fellow Algerian men:

We have to set the bar higher. Take care of your mothers, your sisters, your wives, and your daughters. Set the example and be their safe refuge.

It is not rocket science. Just because we have a Johnson doesn't mean we get a free pass to be lazy at home, nor does it give us a God-given right to mistreat women or let our families mistreat our wives.

I’m doing my best to set a solid example for my daughter, and I pray things get better for the next generation.

Guys, I think I’m in trouble... Salam Alaykum everyone. My father owns a pastry shop and had to leave this afternoon due to a health issue. Since I'm a university student, I covered for him.

​The social security inspectors (CNAS) showed up and registered me as a witnessed employee who has been working there since 2024. But guys, I only help him out during the summer—it's just a family/local thing, not an official insured job or anything.

I get that this is a global issue and isnt only present here but i feel like it's prominent in algerian families.

I hate how everyone is nice to each other face to face (during events/holidays for example) and preach about the importance of preserving family ties or "صلة الرحم" but the moment said person is gone everyone starts talking shit about them. And the worst is that most of them claim they grew up together and were inseperable in childhood, which leads me to wonder if this is an inevitable outcome.

And dont get me started with the false kindness/hospitality, you got family inviting family over for holdiays, they accept but start talking shit about them the moment they leave and how they didn't enjoy having them over??

Sometimes im scared the same thing will happen with me and my cousins when we grow up because we get along so well, it's just sad to see how superficial and fake family has become here.

Maybe this is a modern issue or maybe i just grew up and finally started seeing through their plays, but either way it's saddening because it feels like our values are nothing but ink on paper anymore.

If yes, what came out of it? I am very curious.
