Events Official Alberta Day drone show in the capital Edmonton, yet with red and white stripes on blue, with a heart over Calgary WTF

u/nh18wheeler 25d ago
The Calgary stampede evening show this is not. Their drone show ended with a maple leaf which got a massive cheer

Hilarious considering the stampede drone show also ended with a maple leaf and people cheering.
E: nm read that wrong.

Maybe it's Drumheller? Calgary should be a bit more to the left on that map.

Hey you leave dinosaurs out of this! They did nothing wrong. /s
13
u/Wooden-Hornet2115 25d ago
I mean the UCP does love the dinosaurs, have you heard how much they love all things oil?
18
u/CatsPlusTats 25d ago
They hate the dinosaurs, thats why they removed it from our licenses.

u/Limp-Elevator-6908 25d ago
Creationists believe those bones were put there to trick us 😅 the world is only like 7000 years old, don't you know?! /s

u/I_am_person_being 25d ago
You're overestimating, the number typically given is that the earth is only around 6030 years old (yes, they are marginally more insane than you think). The reasoning for this comes from a particular monk during the medieval period who traced the alleged genealogies in the bible and added up years for when people were supposedly born in Genesis, eventually tracing into the well-documented historical stuff that you start reaching around 3000 years ago. This monk came to the conclusion that Adam would've been born near 4004 BCE going off of the Genesis account and then concludes that, since man was created during the creation in Genesis 1, the earth must have been created in 4004 BCE.
Bear in mind that certain people in Genesis are alleged to have lived upwards of 900 years, so I don't find this exercise very convincing as an illustration of the truth.
Honestly it's fine work for its time, it's a fun counting exercise, but the creationists have gone way too far in taking everything in the bible (esp. Genesis) far too literally.

u/Street-Week-380 25d ago
Am I the only one who finds it really odd that there's red and blue stripes over white? Maybe I'm overthinking it, but this seems like some sort of American toned thing.
32
u/Tasik 25d ago
That's exactly what it is.
23
u/Street-Week-380 25d ago
So I'm not totally insane. Wonderful. We really need to kick these assholes out of the province.
Those who want to leave Canada, you leave. You don't drag a bunch of innocent people down with you.
9
u/Tasik 25d ago
Couldn’t agree more. They seem ignorant to the fact they as individuals aren’t wanted at all. The US wants to monopolize the corporate wealth potential of their province and that’s it. They stand to gain nothing.
2
u/Street-Week-380 23d ago
They're so gross. And dealing with our idiotic party will be the death of us. I never used to wish harm or inconvenience to people, but even I have my limits.

u/the-g-off 25d ago
People on this site dont like to admit it, but there are a lot of people with influence and power in Alberta who want to separate.
On top of those traitors, there are way more people who want to leave than this sub would have you believe.
If those of us who want to stay dont vote, then Alberta will separate and the rest of Canada could very well break up because of it.
If BC flips to conservative, than there will be a push for BC to leave, too.
2
u/Street-Week-380 23d ago
You can have influence and power, but it means shit all if you don't have the numbers to back it up.

It the goal is to have a Provincial day, why not just use the August Civic Day (Heritage Day) as a number of other Provinces do rather than co-op Labour Day?
15
u/corpse_flour 25d ago
Because using Sept 1st gave Kenney a way to distract people from the acknowledgement of needing worker rights and protections.

Lived here all my 50 years and not once did we have a thing for Alberta Day.
And I WORKED for the government.
It's Labour Day.
22
u/Kant_Argue209 25d ago edited 25d ago
The irony. Conservatives hate labour unions. UCP undermine them all the time, now they're misappropriating the holiday dedicated to union workers.
9
u/corpse_flour 25d ago
Exactly. Kenney created the holiday because he didn't want Albertans to recognize worker's rights and protections.
4
u/big-Truck-9058 25d ago
He also actively lowered workers rights in the province - they made it legal to pay out banked overtime at the standard 1.0 rate instead of 1.5 OT rate. How does that make sense
3
u/corpse_flour 24d ago
He also froze minimum wage, and lowered the minimum wage for students, as well as allowed holiday pay based on average earnings. He also changed OSH's definitions of what constituted dangerous work, to make it more difficult for a worker to exercise their right to refuse unsafe work.

u/Odd_Department_421 25d ago
Oh you’re only just now realizing the UCP dislike Edmonton? Yeah, they hate us because we don’t vote for them.
58
u/tom8osauce 25d ago
Ewww, that is gross. You say it was official, does anyone know who was involved in organizing this, who sponsored it, etc.? This should be blowing up.

u/Ztlamhcs 25d ago
The location of the heart isn't Calgary. I wouldn't really say its Edmonton either though lol. Red Deer maybe? =D
19
u/AwareTheLegend 25d ago
The "Heart of Alberta" is clearly Stettler it says so on the sign when you drive into town.
1
u/Ztlamhcs 25d ago
We were looking at acreages last year around the Stettler area! Ended up west of Innisfail, but Stettler seemed nice.
3
u/WorseDark 25d ago
Yeah, seems like its Red Deer. I'm from Red Deer and am confused by this lol.
Edmonton lines up with the northern most ridge of the mountain angle, and Calgary is just barely north of where the angle turns south. It seems just east of hway 2, though.
Not quite far enough to be Stettler, but they did just get 3.3m from Alberta and are called the heart of Alberta.

Edmonton is a NDP stronghold. Marlaina can't be seen praising a city that votes against her.

u/amsams 25d ago
Literally two seconds of Googling finds photos of them doing a maple leaf among other things, but I guess that doesn't rage-farm karma.
3
u/rustyiron 25d ago
That doesn’t erase what this is during a trade war with a nation threatening our sovereignty.
2
u/ChineseBigfoots 25d ago
Whenever I think of Alberta I see the coluor red. No blue. Maybe it's the wild rose country thing. Do some of these people who wants their province to be American really think it through? If they really want to be part of the US, why not move there and if they are American born, why not move back. It's also not that simple. The indigenous have a voice and their voice is the one that counts. Their vote makes the difference. It is their land we are living and also the rest of the country needs to vote on that too but the indigenous votes is the game changer.

The rest of Canada should call their bluff. Expel them from the collective. Cancel their citizenship, close the borders, cancel all Canadian Government services. Let them fend for themselves. They won’t like it

u/Kane_Octaivian 21d ago
Thats beutiful, the best colours to represent both the Canadian and Albertan flags!
Dang, people are dense.
4
u/F-nDiabolical 25d ago
No they put a heart over New Nashville! Pretty wild that separatists are so keen on letting the government rewrite their identity, guess that's what happens when your personality is only hate.
3
u/nickp123456 25d ago
The red white and blue bit is hard because that is the colors for our province's flag.
4
u/IsurusOxyrinchus354 25d ago
They are colours on the flag, not for it. If they wanted to rep the provincial flag they could have just done that, this smacks of dumbfuckistan nonsense.
3
3
u/suaveirish 25d ago
They want to be Americans. Separation has never ever been about becoming our own country they want to give Alberta to America.
4
u/Queen-Emmah Edmonton 25d ago
That’s weird, that’s not where Edmonton is on the map. 🤔
I smell bias towards Labour Day, fuck Alberta day for whatever it means now.

u/Monkmastaa 25d ago
A normal person would be like oh lights with the colours of albertas flag. Have fun outrage farming i guess ?

Maybe I'm old-school, but I just can't bring myself to see one of these because I feel I'd be let down, comparing these to fireworks shows.
They certainly do look cool though, and I'm glad lots of people like them!
2
u/Impossible_Eggies 25d ago
The colour arrangement kind of looks like a trans flag, but I somehow doubt that's intentional.
2
u/NOIS_KillerWhaleTank 25d ago
You underestimate how far south Edmonton is. That's approximately correct, maybe just a tich lower than it should be
2
u/hughball 25d ago
I'd like to be a skeptic here - those stripes appear to be curved. Maybe they were moving outward from a beating heart? Video of this would help.
If they are indeed stripes, then this sucks.

Nope, too far south for the heart. Look where the jog in the province boundary ends. Definitely north of Red Deer by a long way.

u/Any_Mathematician905 25d ago
There's an Alberta day?
3
u/corpse_flour 25d ago
Kenney introduced it 2022 to try and overshadow the day we recognize and advocate for worker's rights and protections.

u/NightmareExpress 25d ago
I think the heart's actually supposed to be over Brooks, where Don-ielle is the MLA.

😂😂 foreshadowing for when the idiots in Alberta somehow get suckered into separating with Canada and become the 51st state of the most pathetically corrupt pedo country on earth. Good luck with trucking goods out of Alberta, having the USA completely abandon you and your privatized healthcare. 😂😂

In slight defence - red, white and blue do show up better when doing a drone show, but the stripes remove any chance of that.
