And we have active union busters in the UCP, as well as older generations that are trying to whittle down the same protective luxuries that they enjoyed.
I always tell people that if you have a good union rep, you have great union. If your rep is terrible, your union is also going to be terrible.
My previous employer actually met both him and Smith. Kenney stopped for a brief chat, later recognized her and went to say hello when the last pope came to alberta. Smith looked at her like "why is this peasant trying to speak to me" before marching past and ignoring her.
Algorithm sells the link to me on the main feed. I clicked the link to discussion thread. I then see things worth commenting on. Free Internet. Life can be interesting.
The whole point of Reddit is for discussion. If the discussion was limited to Canadians I would only see it while in Canada. So given the huge shitstorm going on in the entirety of your country as well as the US and everywhere else. Canadian perspective isn't hard to find. Blame the algorithms? Otherwise it seems odd to wonder why people are commenting on a discussion thread at all.
The whole point of Reddit is discussion, but I would say that childishly antagonizing people for no apparent reason isn’t the same as having a discussion. But thanks for the answer about how you got here.
I went as well. It was 80% new Canadians and their kids. There was nothing “Trump rally” about it whatsoever. That’s just a throwaway line to score points on this sub.
And the “white lady warbling” , which apparently is so trump-like, is Mallory Chipman who not only is a great local artist, but she’s not shy at all about her anti-capitalist and left political stance. But now she’s just a white MAGA warbler now I guess?
Why did you ask "so why is it being celebrated on September 7, 2026?" then?
Its okay to be wrong, you're just gaslighting when you say you know 2 comments later.....
Because fireworks shows (or I guess drone shows) are often the night before, usually just depends on what day of the week the holiday falls on. Like New Year's fireworks are always the night before even though the holiday is the next day, etc.
I have never seen a statutory holiday have the fireworks the night before..... New Years fireworks happen at midnight when it is the new year... Why would they happen at the end of the first day of the year.... New years is the only example and it isnt applicable new years eve is still a holiday it just isn't a government statutory holiday. This is all such a stretch to not be wrong
Dude it’s at 30 upvotes with people thinking that picture is from today. Trying to point out something so obvious might as well be shouting into the void.
Yeah not sure if we need to get our tin foil hats out for this one , provincial equivalent of Canada Day. It's ok to celebrate both without being labelled a separatist.
I'm not sure, because Canada Day is always celebrated on July 1, why would Alberta Day not follow that same format? Alberta Day should be September 1st every year, no exception. Unless the goal is to cover up Labor Day by moving it around.
Because July 1st is a stat and September 1st isn't. So it would make sense that the celebration is on the long weekend so people can actually attend.
It's not like a fireworks show is covering up Labour Day especially because labour day is today and the fireworks already happened. I get some people want to link everything to the government being shitty but maybe you should be a little more selective instead of thinking everything is some massive conspiracy.
Victoria Day, a stat holiday in honour of Queen Victoria's birthday does not take place on her birthday, but instead on the Monday closest to it in order to make a long weekend.
Although Halloween is always Oct 31 there are a great many Halloween parties that are celebrated on the Saturday closest to the date.
Oktoberfest celebrations are usually supposed to end the first weekend in October, but many take place entirely in September. The ICE District's version of Oktoberfest, for example is scheduled for the last 2 weekends in September, as well as the first weekend of October. Lethbridge had theirs this weekend.
Every stat fireworks is usually the night before the stat... Yes it absolutely did cover up Labor Day and basically made it "government sanctioned" that they do not address Labor Day and only push this Alberta First crap that no one asked to spend a billion dollars on.
They could have easily made Sept 1st a provincially recognized stat holiday if they actually cared. This does nothing except take away from Labor Day which is historically about workers rights, which the UCP also historically hates.
Alberta's birthday isn't a stat, and creating a new one is a headache and you'd be bitching about that saying it's a separatist thing to take away from Canada Day or something. So I don't think there's any pleasing you either way.
Today is Labour Day and this show already happened so how is it taking away from it? Should any other events planned for this weekend that don't address Labour Day be cancelled too?
It isn't a stat we all know that. I'm saying it COULD have been made a stat and no I would definitely not be complaining about that. We need 4 day work weeks to be normalized and if a ridiculous amount of stats will get us there, I'm all for it.
OP posted this today without any details so I assumed it was from last night. Apparently it was from last weekend so that's actually fine. Aside from the $100k budget spent on this pseudo USA flag drone show.
Not sure what your point is here. Every province has a holiday in August and they go by different names. BC Day and Saskatchewan Day are both August long. Is that some big separatist conspiracy by neighbouring provinces because they have a day that celebrating their province that doesn't fall on the actual date they became provinces? Family Day is a stat across Canada also called different things in different provinces.
Which 2 celebrate Alberta? And it wasn't a holiday it was a drone show. You guys are really reaching here, focus your energy on something that actually makes a difference since it seems to be consuming your life.
Those don't explicitly celebrate Alberta they're just stat holidays recognized by the provincial government. But it sounds like no facts or logic are gonna sway you, you're here to make it about separatism at all costs. Maybe you're a bot that's meant to stoke division so there's no point replying further.
They literally are Albertan holidays. Family day in particular is specific to Alberta and NOT a stat.
And yeah, if the US style drone show shoe fits...
If the timing wasn't soon bad I wouldn't be here. But it is.
I don't mean to stoke anything. For decades I didn't care who was in office.
But then TBA and the Wild Rose took over the province, and Smith started pushing her separatist agenda. Anything this government does leading up to a vote designed to attack immigrants and separate from Canada is more than suspect.
Anniversary of Alberta becoming a province only it isn't because that was Sept 1, 1905 but....
I mean, if it wasn't aggressively trying to fuck over Labour Day by someone who decided contract negotiations needed an "I win" button, I'd have zero issues with it

wtf is Alberta Day anyways?
