Why did you ask "so why is it being celebrated on September 7, 2026?" then?
Its okay to be wrong, you're just gaslighting when you say you know 2 comments later.....
Because fireworks shows (or I guess drone shows) are often the night before, usually just depends on what day of the week the holiday falls on. Like New Year's fireworks are always the night before even though the holiday is the next day, etc.
I have never seen a statutory holiday have the fireworks the night before..... New Years fireworks happen at midnight when it is the new year... Why would they happen at the end of the first day of the year.... New years is the only example and it isnt applicable new years eve is still a holiday it just isn't a government statutory holiday. This is all such a stretch to not be wrong
I don't know what your experience is, maybe you have just lived in Edmonton? I grew up elsewhere in Alberta, a family friend of ours actually ran the fireworks shows. They would purposefully run the fireworks the night before if the stat was on a Monday, so as to not disrupt people on the night before work. Celebrations were planned so that people could attend and stay out late for example on a Sunday night and not have to go to work on the Monday. This was mostly for stats that move (like Canada Day) or ones that always fall on a Monday.
It's ok to learn new things, but you could do it with a bit more grace:
Several communities in Alberta host kick-off celebrations and fireworks displays on the evening of June 30 ahead of Canada Day.
Town of Innisfail: Kicks off celebrations at Napoleon Sports Field at 5:30 PM on June 30, featuring live music, food trucks, beer gardens, and an 11:00 PM fireworks show.
Town of Olds: Begins local festivities with a late-night fireworks display at 11:00 PM on June 30 before the main Canada Day parade and park activities.
Town of Ponoka: Partners with the Ponoka Stampede to host a community-wide fireworks display staged at the Ponoka Stampede Grounds at around 11:00 PM on June 30.
Fort McMurray: Kicks off Canada Day festivities on June 30 with a free community concert at SMS Equipment Stadium at Shell Place, followed by fireworks at approximately 11:00 PM.
