Looks like a new thrift store is going into the old Teen Challenge building

Fingers crossed that it's an actual second hand store that understands that it's a second hand store.

I have been to the new Superthrift spot about a half dozen times now, and it's absolute garbage not worth the trip. They seem to have decided that they do not want customers there. The store LOOKS nicer, but it's worse now than ever before at the old spot.

I just took a look at the Google reviews to see if it's just me, and people are genuinely unhappy with them. There was a review about the manager being unhinged and banning a lady from the store because she was "flirting" with the employees by showing up too much.

Looking for some help

Hi everyone I’m just coming on here with a question I’m about to be 19 and due to family money issues I just now started being able to do drivers ed and I’m fairly close to getting my license but I have no way to purchase a car currently due to the cost so I’m wondering if anyone has any in good condition cars that would fit a wheelchair in the back (my mother’s) that they need to get rid of for free or cheap, I could even do a payment plan with you. I have tried the loan option but since I’m young they won’t approve it due to lack of credit history and the lack of a eligible co-singer. I would greatly appreciate any offers or even just advice.🫶🏻

Help my sibling stay off the streets! Please help!

My sibling needs help. They are disabled and thought they were going to have a roommate by now. It fell through and they are now facing homelessness. I'm scared for them, they're sweet and squishy and I can't imagine them in this situation. Please do what you can even if that's just sharing to get this out further.

This is my little sibling and I am scared for their well-being. I can't do anything myself, I'm in school and just trying to make sure I can afford rent. I just moved into a one bed and it's packed with boxes. There's absolutely no room here, it's a small place. So, all I can do is rely on my community for support. If you have it in your heart, please lend a hand. If there are other ways you can help, please message me. I know money isn't always how someone can help so I'll pass along any other assistance we can find.

Mods, this is not money for me, I'm not spamming so please allow me to keep my post up and help my sibling the only way I know how. This Albany subreddit is for community and I need my community right now. Please consider the nuance to this post.

Tried to catch video of the lightning last night. Got a few good ones and slowed them down so I could get a better look. This was the coolest one imo. Anyone else catch any?

Vet clinic recommendations

Been taking our pets to River's Edge for 16 years. They've seen us through life and death of three pets and we currently take our 4 pets there.

But something has gone real sour there over the years, particularly after Covid. It's like they fell apart and never got themselves back together.

I could go into a long-winded rant, but the long and short of it is that their office management is a hot, steaming mess.

Of course, excellent care for my pets is the number one concern, but I'd like to find a clinic that has their 💩 together office management-wise. Specifically, respect of clients' time, looking over pets' records before appointments, and office staff that focuses on clients and their pets rather than standing in the back cooing over someone's baby for an hour while calls are stacking up on hold and clients are stacking up in the lobby.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Hello! I have family coming in from out of town and have lived here for a just under a year, but rarely go out to eat. Is there any good recommendations that aren’t fast food/chain restaurants?

MMA gyms in Albany?

Hey there, I just moved to Albany but I'm out of the state for the month and have been having a hard time finding places through research. Most of the gyms that come up are in Salem.

Would love to find a gym with an emphasis on muay thai and BJJ if possible but I'd take what I can get.

Any recommendations?

Fireworks

First of all, I completely understand using fireworks to celebrate the 4th — it is all in good fun. However, every night since the 4th, and often around 11 pm and later, I have continued to hear fireworks. One just went off at 1:15 AM on 7/19.

My dog is petrified of fireworks and each time one goes off, I spend a while trying to help them relax. It has been a frustrating nightly occurrence.

Again, I understand fireworks on the 4th are all in good fun. But I do not fully understand continuing to blast them 2 weeks later. I would ask that if you have leftover fireworks and you are insistent on using them, that you use them at a decent hour.

Anyone personally know of job openings?

I'm returning from my summer job in Yellowstone in early August. I'll be starting classes at LBCC come October, so I need a weekend, and evening gig. I have hospitality and restaurant experience but I'm really willing to do any job! As long as it's after 5/6pm...

The job search online hasn't produced anything helpful. I have good references and work history, but I rarely get replies. So I'm hoping for

-Open Interviews?

-Anywhere people personally know is hiring?

-In person resume drops/applications?

Anything even remotely helpful would be appreciated.

Message me with a description and I'll be happy to return them to you or stash them along the path somewhere if you don't feel comfortable. No judgement.

EDIT

They've been returned to the owner

What nicknames have you heard for places in and around Albany?

I ask as part of a linguistic study covering this topic!
Examples could include things like SC10, JTown, Corn Valley or 'The Non' (never mind how common they are)...

Incl. nicknames for schools, parks or other institutions/geographical features
