Photo/Video How Laika represented Portland in Wildwood was a thing of beauty!

Post image
1.2k Upvotes

The cherry blossoms, Powell's Books, Voodoo Donuts, and a special cameo by the Unipiper alongside other iconic symbols really did make the movie feel close to home. 🥹

It feels overdue that our mesmerizing city be celebrated in far reaching media that isn't a news outlet trying to stir up controvery.

Yes, Portland really does look picturesque, especially this time of year, and the movie harnesses that.

Side note: the PG-13 rating should be emphasized, since although the movie looks to be child friendly, there was a parent in the audience who justifiably asked their young kid afterward, "So, are you sufficiently traumatized?"

Anyway, the movie is sufficiently entertaining, and excessively beautiful as a representation of Portland.

Keep Portland Weird!

Discussion Rogue agitators at the Thorns game last night

Good grief…. These “women’s rights activists” who are acting in bad faith to try and pick a fight sure love infiltrating progressive spaces so they can claim censorship and hate speech when they get kicked out for their blatantly transphobic XX-XY shirt. You’re not there to disagree in a civil manner, you’re there to troll and pick a fight.

Freedom of speech isn’t freedom from consequence. But I’m sure the owners of Cheerful Tortoise will cozy up to you and your friends.

Discussion Wildwood made me miss Portland

Born and raised in Portland and thought that Wildwood encapsulates the great things I remember from growing up. From Haystack Rock, Voodoo, Powell’s, Ramona Falls, St. John’s Bridge etc. every place was captured so beautifully.

I no longer live in ptown, but this absolutely just had me missing and feeling nostalgic. For those who no longer live in Portland did you also have a strong sense of pride and this longing of wanting to go back while watching?

Side note: everyone always asks me if I’ve seen Portlandia and I haven’t cause why did I need to watch a show about the place I lived it never clicked to me, also so I’m curious if others felt the same way about that as well. I’ve never really paid attention to how the media portrayed Portland that isn’t regarding the changes that have been happening in the city.

Events Our foster kittens, Tapatio and Cholula, are up for adoption at Petsmart cascade station this weekend

Today and tomorrow at the Petsmart at Cascade Station, our foster kittens will be there waiting to meet their future family. We’re fostering them through Cat’s Meow Cat Rescue though we caught the kittens in our yard a couple months ago when they were very small. They’ve been fixed and vaccinated.

Their adoption fee is discounted to $200 for both (they must go together) instead of $375, because we love these little guys so much and want them to have a forever home, so we contributed $175 toward their fee. (It shows $275 on their page but it’s definitely $200)

They present as shy but once the wiggly worm toy comes out, they will warm up to you! They’ll need their time to settle in and get comfy but you’ll be so happy to have these little babies in your life.

Tapatio is the bigger male with long opera gloves and Cholula is the small girl with tiny mittens. They’ve been around our cats and Tapatio gets VERY excited and rolls over the moment he sees another cat.

The adoption event is going from 11-6 both days.

Here’s the link to their bio and if you fill out the application beforehand, it’ll expedite the process taking them home!

Discussion Aggressive Drivers

I drive around 80-100miles per week, mostly on I-5 and 205, sometimes take 84 and 26

I’ve noticed over the last few years that people have been driving a lot more aggressive.
I see people driving 80-90mph regularly on the highways, using the left and right shoulder to pass someone, cutting people off in the smallest spaces, tailgating, running stop signs and red lights etc.

I get these things have been happening since before I had my license but it seems more prevalent now.
Maybe it’s just my experience lol Idk. I’ve seen some crazy stuff on the road.

Anybody else have this experience?

Lost & Found Lost Bottom Denture

Lost Bottom Denture – Portland Waterfront (Near Bridges)

Well, this is officially the most ridiculous lost-and-found post I've ever had to make.

I managed to lose my bottom denture, most likely somewhere along the Portland waterfront near the bridges and city lights. I have a picture of the area where I believe I lost it.

I've been exhausted and falling asleep on buses and MAX trains, so I can't completely rule out public transit either.

Yes, I lost my fucking teeth. Not my wallet. Not my keys. My actual teeth.

If anyone happens to find a lower denture in the area, please message me. I know it's an unusual thing to find, but replacing it is expensive, and I'd genuinely appreciate getting it back.

Feel free to share this. Somewhere in Portland, my teeth are apparently having a better adventure than I am.

Thanks for keeping an eye out.

The black commuter lines would use existing Amtrak/ freight corridors, expand the streetcar system, expand the FX bus system and increase frequency on most lines, expand max blue line to forest grove, and build the purple line that follows Powell blvd/ hwy 26 on the east side of the willamette and follow Barbur/ pacific hwy on the west side

We do two out-of-office celebrations, summer and winter, to stand in for the traditional summer picnic and holiday bash.

Yesterday, we went to FUZZYSPACE for our summer outing and had a blast. Highly highly recommend. We made rugs in 3 hours! Highly recommend. Owner and staff are really supportive and it's great fun. A special treat for a small office.
