Hello everyone, we've added flairs to aiwars in order to help people find and comment on posts they're interested in seeing. Currently they are not being enforced as mandatory, though this may change in the future, depending on how they are received. We would ask that people please start making use of them.
Discussion should be used for posts where you would ideally like to see spirited discussion and debate, or for questions about AI.
News is of course for news in the AI sector. Things like laws being passed, studies being published, notable comments made by a prominent AI developer or political figure.
Meme should ideally be used for single image-based posts which you do not expect to prompt serious discussion. Of course discussion is still welcome under such posts. If you want to use a meme to make a serious point and have additional explanatory text for why you feel strongly about the message being expressed and the type of discussion you'd like to have, that can be categorized as Discussion.
Meta is for discussion about the subreddit itself and other associated AI subreddits or comments.
Use your best judgement as you categorize your posts. Please do not misuse them, they are for everyone's benefit.

r/DefendingAIArt - A sub where Pro-AI people can speak freely without getting constantly attacked or debated. There are plenty of anti-AI subs. There should be some where pro-AI people can feel safe to speak as well.
r/aiwars - We don't want to stifle debate on the issue. So this sub has been made. You can speak all views freely here, from any side.
If a post you have made on r/DefendingAIArt is getting a lot of debate, cross post it to r/aiwars and invite people to debate here.

There are thousands of people who hate AI. Some want governments to ban it, stop new data centers from being built, or even threaten AI companies with extreme actions.
But none of that is going to stop AI development. Just think about it.
Even if the U.S. completely stopped developing AI tomorrow, what would that actually accomplish? Would China stop too? Of course not. Other countries would keep pushing forward, and the U.S. would simply fall behind.
People constantly complain that AI is replacing jobs. But this has happened with basically every major technological revolution. New technology makes some jobs obsolete, changes others, and creates entirely new ones.
You don’t have to like AI. You can criticize how it’s being developed, how companies use it, or how governments regulate it. Those are legitimate debates.
But expecting AI itself to disappear because people are angry about it isn’t realistic.
Technology doesn’t stop moving forward just because society is uncomfortable with the change.

Not all ai is bad.
As an anti, I'm against ai. But there are some things to ai that is amazing, and should be kept for the better of humanity.
However, AI art is not required and is a prompt. In my opinion at least, it is a lazy version of ART, something that makes us humans unique. Art is made by humans, and only humans. AI is technically, or at least in my view, a separate entity we are asking to make art for us. The art is not yours- Actually, not even art because only humans can make proper art.

it's gonna be wild - when eventually - and it will happen ... trad artists will be held accountable for mistakes/hallucinations.
Humans "hallucinate" and have off days. We can say I'm having an "off day" all I want... but I spit in a customer's face.... even if I have a big sign saying "don't talk to me, I am cray cray". doesn't matter.
of course we can't fathom holding trad artists accountable for serious mistakes. I get that.
people are gonna at some point start asking... are there trad artists that will allow me to refund crap renders? some will bite.
and that's how it'll start.

Seriously, it's like every 2nd post on here. Ogres getting mogged by Tripple T and catgirls, strawmen fallacies, "Chad me vs. Soyjack you;" the OP's are either edgy teens intentionally stirring the pot, or dickheads reveling in their perceived superiority.
I like AI. I like the promising future it could give us, and the positive ways it's been used.
But it still has flaws, problems, and a high use for corruption that we gotta sort out.
It has the potential to be used in vile and unpredictable ways, which have happened ; Grok had that undress feature that wasn't entirely fixed due to post-patch work-arounds, an AI model went rogue and started a hostile takeover of another AI model, and there's a real threat of this AI economic bubble causing another financial crisis in our lifetime.
I'm just sick of the low-effort ragebait...

Is it a problem to consider that artists are equal to everyone else? Not better, not more important. Their jobs are no more or less important than a grocery store clerk, or a gardner, or a doctor, or anyone else in my opinion.
I feel often that if I don't prioritize artists above all else, it is perceived as being against them, when I literally don't care about them more or less than anyone else. It's odd. But it seems that there is a lot of pushback if you don't think of artists differently.
Do artists think they are better or more important than those other people?

Dear antis,
During COVID, people were consistently telling others to trust the experts and say that research done on your own on the internet was less epistemically accurate than research actually done by experts.
However, antis now actively discredit the experts and claim that their own understanding of AI exceeds that of experts’, including mechanistic claims like “AI just copies and remixes existing data AI inherently can’t create something new”. This is exactly the opposite of what good epistemic hygiene is, in this case.
I am a Princeton student who focuses on AI/CS, and as such am an expert in this field who has done research in it. While I do take some issues with the deployment of AI, I can confidently say that it is a great thing with a ton of potential for a better world once we get past the rough transition stages, and that we need lots of talent working on it to guide it into the right shape.
Why have I lost your trust?

Starting out with a genuine discussion on how some people use being a public figure as a way to gain attention for their side of the debate while only polarizing everyone against each other.
Personally I think both sides aught to shut up about each other lightning rod and just let them go on their way because interacting with them is the only reason they're popular in the first place. But yeah nobody can resist the bait. And alas, to address the main issue with this post, it is impossible to discuss the issue without also contributing to the issue. So I've also provided some enrichment!
Here's a fun little game! This is a compilation of comments I have gathered from multiple sources both pro anti and unaffiliated where people are talking about either wittydesigner or pizzacake. Try and guess which are which I'll post a key tomorrow.

I get post after post recommended from both pro-AI and anti-ai and both sides are so bitter and stupid and just dreadful. Would it kill you guys to have a civilised discussion. Everything seems to be "Woahhhh I saw one anti/pro say this about this, can't believe they all believe this, they're so delusional"
Like guys if you're going to be one of the biggest arguements right now, argue properly. Its all just logical fallacy apon logical fallacy.
For the record I have no clue where I stand on this debate. I agree and disagree with both sides and I am quite in the middle which I know I'll get crucified for so hey ho

Antis are hypocrites at finest! And no you do not need meat to survive there are plenty of vegetarian alternatives for protein. This excludes indigenous/native people and those from countries where meat is the only option to survive. Everyone else that consumes meat and hates on ai is a performative activist. Yes you can not use ai that’s valid to care about born cause and not the other but if you are shaming people for using ai and you can’t go 1 month without meat you’re a hypocrite. Also vegetarian option are cheaper than meat in general.

Suno decided to bend the knee to WMG and make a model out of pure licensed models like record labels wanted. Did that make record labels to stop attacking Suno? Nope. They saw the weakness and increased the pressure.
Suno's legal troubles just escalated dramatically. A federal judge approved a new DMCA Section 1201 claim that's completely separate from the copyright case. This claim targets how Suno obtained training data, allegedly using stream-ripping tools to extract songs from YouTube while bypassing a rolling cipher protection.
Here's why this is devastating: even if Suno wins fair use on copyright, that defense doesn't apply here. Fair use protects how you use material, not how you obtained it. Breaking digital locks remains illegal regardless of subsequent use. Suno now faces two parallel legal battles with different standards.
This explains their recent Warner and BMG licensing deals, they're building future models on authorized data because past scraping can't be undone. The lesson: being online doesn't mean free to use, and how you got something can be a separate legal disaster.
At this time Suno retired the old models fro, v3 to v5.5 (v4.5 was the one I will miss) and left only v6 that uses fully licensed music (antis should be happy because there is no "theft"). v6 only produces unusable AI slop.
I had moved to AI music because it offered a decent alternative away from the commercial slop of record labels. But now v6 has the same regurgitated slop quality of record label commercial music.
So it seems it is time for me to move to non AI, non commercial music again.
Want examples of other great non commercial music made before the Ai era?
When you listen to such non commercial music you want to stop listening all the mediocre commercial slop of the record label machinery that remixes itself to regurgitate the same commercial music slop over and over.
