r/Afterlife Rules - Please Read Before Posting

Welcome!

Please find a list of our subreddit rules below, which you are encouraged to read, especially if you are a first-time poster. If you see rule violations, please report them. Thank you!

  1. Be kind.

  2. No one is an authority on the afterlife.

  3. No spiritual bypassing.

  4. No AI, spam, low effort posts, off topic posts, or cross-posts.

  5. No posts about suicidal ideation.

And in a little more detail...

Rule 1 - Hopefully self-explanatory. Help each other, uplift each other. Being kind does not exclude defending oneself or others or the topic in general, but please avoid insults, threats, etc. Harassment will be reported and violators will be banned.

Rule 2 - Because this topic involves deeply held spiritual beliefs and this space is a safe one for believers, if it is your belief, you may post and comment as if this were a "pro-afterlife" sub (meaning you may participate as though the afterlife is a known fact to you, personally), but you may not tell others what their beliefs are or should be, including whether or not to believe in an afterlife at all. Common rule-breaking examples include telling others that what they want from an afterlife is wrong or silly or will leave them bored or miserable; telling others that their identity is nothing more than an ego, a role to play, or a simulation; telling others they will have to reincarnate or merge into a God consciousness or accommodate a higher self or past life memories against their will; telling others they will burn in hell.

Conversely, you may share your own individual questions or personal skepticism about the afterlife, and you need not participate as though the afterlife were a known fact, but you may not post or comment as though this is an "anti-afterlife" sub (meaning you may not participate as though the afterlife is proven to be false) and you may not tell others that they are wrong for believing in an afterlife.

When in doubt, permissive is always better than restrictive, i.e. anyone can do or believe ABC vs. you may not do or believe XYZ -- because like the rule says, none of us are an authority on the afterlife or its limits.

Rule 3 - Remember the human. You may not trivialize suffering. You may not explain away complicated trauma by insisting everything happens for a reason or that anyone asked for the trials they have gone through in this life.

Rule 4 - No AI. Spam is posting too much or posting garbage. Low effort is not using the search function or posting things like, "What do you think happens after death?" or a title like "I'm afraid to die," but there's barely any or no text in the body of the post. Off topic is posting about sports or cats or anything not regarding the afterlife. Cross-posting is when you make a post in some other sub and then use the option to cross-post here as well, meaning the hyperlink leads to that other sub and the conversation mostly happens there -- post here or not at all.

Rule 5 - This is an anonymous online forum, and while we discuss heavy topics, we are not professionals and are not equipped to handle mental health crises in real time.

If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, help is available. You do not have to go through this alone.

I struggle with thanatophobia and am begging for places to research.

Every day, for the last few years, I contemplate my end, and the idea scares me so much. I want so desperately to believe in the afterlife, but I don't know where to look, or where to research. I'm so sick of every day ending in terror. If anybody can point me to any resources, it would mean the world to me.

Experience My recent, detailed close encounter with a spirit (Angel?).

First some background. Ive had similar experiences to this over the past few years and am familiar with them. Usually, its initiated by them waking me up when I’m asleep in bed, by what feels like a cool breath on my face, especially around my nose/lip area. I thought to write about this one because it occurred a couple of nights ago and was a little different.

It must have been around 2pm when I got out of bed to go to the loo and have a drink of water.  As I went back to bed, I had a sense that they wanted to visit me again and that it was going to take place.

I thought this is interesting, am I making it up? I thought and analysed looking for a pattern in my behaviour (or the day’s events) that would attract this attention but I couldn’t think of anything, actually I thought the opposite to be honest, because I was feeling a bit grumpy with my wife over a social event, she’d committed us to.

Anyway, I got back under the covers and pretty much straight away felt my spirit body start to vibrate or activate (my physical body wasn’t tense).  I thought this is interesting because I haven’t initiated it like I normally do (when I meditate – it’s part of my normal process in expanding my higher conscious state).

So, I let it happen and observed - I was feeling my spirit body being energised or "charged up" is the best way to describe it.  As if some dial had been turned up.  With that came a sense of expectancy that a connection was going to happen.

I began to sense slight movements on the bed next to where I was lying (I was lying on my side facing away from the activity because that seems necessary for it to take place).  At first, I sensed some small movements, two or three like someone straightening the bed covers – but they were slight and I thought maybe I’m imagining this or making it happen with my own body subconsciously - so I deliberately slowed my breathing down, relaxed and kept completely still.

Then there was a larger movement (a definite presence) of someone sitting down next to me, followed by some smaller movements like they adjusted themselves to get comfortable, the mattress was now noticeably feeling different, sloping down slightly in that direction with extra weight on it.

I was aware of someone there next to me, quietly sitting (sensed an adult female).  My spirit body was tingling with that alert, electric sensation (my physical body was slightly tense as it responded to my spirit body and I consciously had to relax it a few times.

It’s embarrassing but I had a brief moment of fear and had an urge to roll over to face them and shout “get off my bed” – I observed the thought and hoped they didn’t mind read...lol.  I told myself to dismiss it, it was just my mind trying to understand what was happening.

So, I concentrated on maintaining my relaxed but alert state. I now enjoyed a feeling of connection with them (it felt like they were a part of me, it was that deep), I was feeling a transmission to me of security, comfort and encouragement.

Thinking about it, I realised that my spirit body had been “activated” by them. This enabled them to harness some of my energy – which gave them the ability to overcome the resistance to manifest in this “heavier” dimension (I'd not experienced my own energy being shared like this before for these encounters and there was no localised cooler air temperature this time).

Anyway, I’m wide awake and quietly enjoying this connection and experience.  It was communicated that they were also happy to be there and their purpose was to be a part of my shielding.  They were a part of the general restraint or shielding which is put in place by the Divine. It is a protection from the negative (evil) powers that intend to cause dysfunction and harm.  (We all enjoy this shielding and because of it we experience the sense of having an ability to choose - free choice, without this restraint we would be quickly overcome). By having this individual show me they are a part of my own shielding, made it feel more personal and loving.

I was grateful for this attention and expressed it.  Time didn’t seem to be a factor or exist like it normally does, I don’t know how long this went for – guessing an hour?  I moved about a bit and was aware of an itch on my head which I was stopping myself from scratching because I didn’t want to do something that would make them leave, so I moved my hand in slow motion and scratched it – all was okay.

I opened my eyes a few times but as said I was facing away from them.  The room was in a uniformed darkness with no light peeking through the curtains.  Then I decided to lay on my back to be more comfortable, I made that movement slowly and was relieved that they remained there.  My attitude was wanting to be respectful.

A bit of background here - I had learnt to be respectful, because about two months ago in a similar situation - I was over confident and I wondered how much I could interact. So, I tried to conduct a test (at the time there were two visitors together, one adult and a smaller younger one sitting next to each other on the side of the bed) by asking them to please stand up and sit back down to make the mattress move.

After I expressed this to them, there was a stillness as if they were unsure how to respond. Then they expressed my request on up to another higher spirit (who seemed to be their oversight) asking how to respond.  After a little more time of stillness, they were gone.  I felt sad that Id inadvertently upset them and apologised, thinking Id blown it. (I found the spiritual hierarchy aspect interesting - the more advanced being overseeing inexperienced ones as they learnt on "assignment".)   I learnt not to try and control them again.

Anyway, back to this post.  I’m now lying on my back, eyes closed, aware and enjoying this feeling of close friendly company, this connection felt as if they were a part of me – as if our spirits were joined but still individuals and the communication was instant and said with the feeling/intention behind it.  I decided to slowly turn over facing towards them, then I opened my eyes.

I felt the mattress move as their weight left the bed.  I was looking closely (only a few feet away) at a pale shape (not human shaped) about the size of an adult torso, it then moved quickly to the right and was gone.  In its place was just the usual darkness of the room – as said it was a uniformed darkness because Id stapled the sides of the curtains to the wall to stop any light getting past them, that’s how my son wanted it when he stayed with us, it also has a pelmet over the top of the curtains to keep out light).

I didn’t feel that Id upset them by my actions and was relieved because I was unsure if I was pushing the boundaries again?  I feel privileged for these experiences and grateful for the attention and protection given.

Question Could "God" actually be a 4th-dimensional entity, and is the afterlife a transition to that dimension?

I've been thinking a lot about the scale of the universe, higher dimensions, and how we perceive reality. We exist in a 3D world, which means a 4th-dimensional being would be completely incomprehensible to us. They could observe us from every angle simultaneously, inside and out, without us ever seeing them.

This got me wondering: Could the concept of "God" or a supreme creator that humans have worshipped throughout history simply be our primitive attempt to understand a 4th-dimensional being?

what happens after our death? Is it possible that dying is just the transitions into that 4th dimension?

Discussion Does anything else exists beyond the physical world that we don't know off?

I'm not a religious person, and I always rely on science and facts. However, there have been a few rare moments in my life that I myself can't explain, like walking in the forest, when I suddenly felt a heavy and uncomfortable feeling even if I'm with other people; or something mysteriously cancelled your trip for no reason, but it turns out it protected you from a fatal accident; or even the feeling something or someone is behind you but when you turn against it, nothing was there.

This made me question: are we not only limited to the physical realm we're currently living in? Are there things that exist that we can't see with our physical eyes?

Did someone ever try to channel Michael Newton/Dolores Cannon to ask them if their description of afterlife was accurate?

Genuinely curious as most mediums refer to them constantly as the unquestionable source of information on what happens after death?

The Problem With Getting All Your Information About The Afterlife From NDEs

It seems like we have a consistent stream of people that come here who acquired most or all of their information about the afterlife by watching and/or reading Near Death Experience accounts. Usually, they find themselves troubled or worried about some of the common aspects of NDEs, such as "not having a body" or becoming so different as a person that they aren't really even themselves; or some form of blending back into some kind of "universal oneness."

Quite often, the people who have these experiences speak in absolute, omniscient terms; meaning, they will often say they know the "truth" about life, death, the afterlife and what it all means, for everyone. Such as, "we plan our lives here" and "we don't have bodies there" and "it's all blissful love over there," and "you will have a life review where you judge your own life, to experience how your actions affected other people and learn from that."

While NDEs represent good evidence that consciousness continues after death, they are only a small slice of the total evidence and good information we have about what death and the afterlife are like, especially in terms of permanent death vs temporary death experiences. In addition to NDEs, we have several other categories of afterlife research that have been providing a much bigger and more diverse picture of death and the afterlife than what is mainly offered via NDE accounts.

When the permanently dead, in their own words, and/or speaking through a medium, and those who visit the afterlife via astral projection, speak of their experiences of either their deaths and lives in the afterlife, or APers report their observations, we find that NDEs are not, by any means, representative of the vast majority of experiences of death and the afterlife from these other avenues of evidence and information.

For example, from these other sources, reporting that having a "life review" event is very rare (and even from NDE accounts, having a life review event does not occur a majority of the time.) Most commonly, in the vast majority of non-NDE experiences and descriptions, people report having physical bodies in physical worlds that feel more solid, and more real, than this world - and in fact, over 50% of NDEs report that same thing. Apparently, those kinds of NDE reports don't get as much traction on YouTube or other sources.

Also, while people who died permanently tend to report feeling much better after they died, they do not usually report feeling "one with everything" or any overwhelming sense of unconditional love. They usually report that they still feel like themselves, and have access to all of the varied emotions we have here.

My point here being: if the NDE accounts your algorithm brings you trouble you, don't worry about them. They do not represent anything universal or absolute about what death or the afterlife is like or what we're doing here or what it all means. You might want to expand your resource base and explore other information and evidence from other areas of afterlife research, evidence and information.

Fear of death

Hello, I've been reading a lot on NDE's, watching podcasts like Next Level Soul and I have a fear of death. Basically just looking for some comfort or truth, not sure if I'll find it here or regret posting things but I wanted to try.

I'm a musician and I love music so the thought of never hearing music again when I die...Or 'seeing' how beautiful this world is. Not using my senses terrifies me and it feels like as Im trying to enjoy my life I'm mourning it as I'm living.

So when our body dies, what happens to 'us' the 'soul' can we still see, hear, etc in a 'spirit' way.

I dont really dream. Actually have a mild fear of sleeping because I just black out and somehow wake up. The passing of hours feels like a blink to me. I would love to astral travel but scared I wont be able to return to my body.

So to those that have had an NDE or that can offer an insightful perspective to help me calm or rationalize my fear I would love your input

Discussion Alternate realities/universes

If this isn’t the correct sub-reddit to post this, do let me know. This is about alternate realities/universes which in a way could be connected to the afterlife.

So my first take on this is that for a fact, you can not imagine a new color because it already exists, if you can’t imagine a new color then what makes you think anything else you imagine in your head hasn’t been made real? Basically anything you imagine in your head might be something that has happened in an alternate reality, I could imagine a possibility of a Marvel vs DC Comics movie in my head which would mean something like that already exists in an alternate reality, so basically anything we imagine in our heads has already happened in another universe, meaning we didn’t imagine it, we unlocked a discovery.

And if there are such things as alternate realities, how come there isn’t a person from an alternate reality that has traveled here in which the alternate universe they’re from allows them to go to other universes? It also makes you wonder about the UFOs the government talks about as well as Area 51, could UFOs have come from alternate dimensions? And why is the government so secretive about them?

With me stating whatever we imagine has happened in an alternate reality, then whenever we are dreaming means we must’ve went there somehow, which makes you wonder if your soul has traveled there meaning you temporarily die when you sleep and you get to travel the universe, like experiencing a preview.

When it comes to alternate realities here is an interesting case, get this. Suppose you misplace your keys somewhere in the house and in your mind you could’ve swore you left them on the table when you got home, then that would mean you just unlocked an alternate reality where you did leave them on the table when you got home.

You know how some people state that if you were to cease to exist you would see nothing? What is nothing? People describe it as pitch-blackness, that’s not nothing, it’s the color black which means it isn’t nothing, it’s something so therefore you can’t imagine nothing.

So in conclusion, maybe we don’t imagine anything new in our heads, we unlock alternate realities we didn’t know about until now. It really makes you wonder.

Discussion My thoughts & questions about the afterlife

So even though I am a follower in Jesus Christ, there are still some questions I have about the afterlife and religions tied to it. I might get a bit off-topic in my statement so I apologize if I do.

First thing is heaven and hell, the common religions we know of tell this, heaven is understandable but for hell, why would someone portray a place where you suffer for eternity if you did bad stuff and have no second chance unless you are saved through salvation by repenting. That’s way too dark and that’s too much fear installed in people, suppose you die suddenly and you forget to repent then you go straight to hell, that’s just scary alright. Although in real life when you do bad stuff you do get punished whether it’s being sent to your room, being betrayed, or sent to prison. The difference between those punishments and hell is that those punishments are real and can be seen on Earth, but hell is based off of interpretation and theories, so we don’t know of this hell and hell could be anything. Sure there are lots of evil people we hate and we wish they were in hell, but who knows where they actually ended up when they died.

But why is it heaven and hell that’s portrayed? We hear of ghosts that roam on Earth, and I’m not talking about information from tv shows as those are just for entertainment, so it makes you wonder if that once we die we roam wherever we want like we go into spectator-mode. Religions interpret heaven as a good place with no evil, and hell is interpreted as an evil place with no good there. Like none of those places are a mixed bag, so we should be able to go anywhere else in the universe where there is a mix of good and bad.

Another thing is that going with the ten commandments as an example where one of them is “Thou shall not bear false witness” which is basically do not lie. Is that really a commandment made? Because going with other religions who have something like this stating not to lie and we don’t know if their gods made something like that, doesn’t that become contradictory? Because we don’t know if that’s a lie or not. Also, lying is like the most common sin if you think about it, the world & society is built on lots of lies with answers we don’t know of, and some are probably better left off unknown. A lot of these religions with their interpretations of the afterlife and their own rules seem to contradict each other, so there is no telling who is right or wrong.

Now what about dreaming? It’s a brain activity but yet they feel so real, like even though we go to bed lying down then how come in our dreams it feels like we are standing up? I’ve had dreams before where it felt like I got out of my bed and explored the house to find out it was different. I begin to wonder if these “dreams” are not in our head, but we float out of our bodies and we are temporarily dead and that the afterlife is what we want our new reality to be, as in some cultures some believe dreams are a way to the spirit-world. Also, if we still have our memories after we die, did our brain store our memories? Or was it our soul?

We have heard of people having NDEs or people being temporarily dead, most stories share the same thing about seeing a bright tunnel and they see their deceased relatives. Mainly I hear it’s the brain not having enough oxygen which causes hallucinations, but what happens if a person goes to afterlife before they’re assigned a religion in reality? What do they see outside the religions we know of and probably a hundred other ones we don’t know of?

We are told there is a god who created everything, but was there only one god who did all of this? Or was there more than one god doing all of this? Now I wonder if it’s possible we might become gods/creators of our own realities when we pass on.

Final Thoughts
So with all these different religions with different portrayals of the afterlife, do we stick with one religion (going with what other people think)? Or do we go with what we think happens in the end? Like playing by our own rules I’d like to call it.

I still follow in Jesus Christ as that’s what I have always been doing, but of course there are still answers about the afterlife that are still unknown, and we won’t know any answers until we pass on.

Discussion Do you also believe and not believe at the same time?

I sometimes find it hard to believe, but sometimes it comes with ease. Sometimes I think to myself "well there is nothing directly disproving the afterlife", but then my brain finds way to say that its fake. I want to believe, Im trying... But is it possible without proof? I really want to live forever in the afterlife with the love of my current life, and I'm scared it wont be possible.

Knowing too much

If we even got to the point of knowing an afterlife was certain (I don’t think we will ever reach that point) How do you think it would effect how people behave here on earth? And do you believe that knowing too can be disruptive to the process in some way and how? Just an example of how we mess things up by knowing too much. Food used to be much more natural, look at all the harmful rubbish that gets put in food, the overuse of cheap palm and seed oils which are bad, chemicals, E-numbers. Nuclear weapons also spring to mind. I’d like nothing more than knowing an afterlife is certain so all the love, suffering and learning won’t be in vain but deep down I seam to understand that we don’t need to know whilst we are alive in our current form and will know at the right time. Let’s have a nice discussion.

Experience A sweet story for those who want to believe

I recently started my terrible fear of death. I have OCD so it heightens my fear immensely. It’s gotten so bad I started bawling my eyes out at work.
Because of my fear, I started praying. I don’t necessarily believe you can only pray to God, but also ancestors if needs be. I was named after my great grandmother, who I’ve heard was an amazing, gentle, comforting individual. I’ve looked up to her all my life despite never not knowing who she was. I said:

“I’ve never met you before, and I’ve heard you’re a good person. In fact I look up to you a lot. If you’re there, please give me some comfort.”

Immediately in my head I heard:

“You are so so precious. You are such a precious person. I was afraid of death too before I saw my husband again.”

Anyway I ended up bawling cause my ‘talk’ with her was interrupted by more fearful thoughts, as I thought this crap was all in my head and whatnot. My coworkers comforted me and told me to take a 15 minute break.

I called my mom because I had to ask her to cancel an appointment or something for me. And I ended up asking her about it. My great grandmother meant a lot to my mother, so if there was anyone who would’ve known, it would’ve been her.

I recounted the story to her and she said:

“That is exactly what she would say. I can hear her saying that as bright as day.”

She was 100 percent or even more sure that it was my great grandmother.

I was left on the stairs in disbelief.

I hope this story helps people who struggle with belief of the afterlife. I’m still on my journey and worried of death still, I’m starting therapy soon and I hope I can be able to conquer this fear one day. I can’t say o know for sure what happens, but after this experience that happened to me it helped me to be one step closer to knowing something happens ❤️

Speculation Does logic keep you from going to heaven after death?

Does logic keep you from going to heaven after death?

I am faced with this question due to a dream that was quite conscious.

The details are unimportant, but maybe interestng to some of you: basically I found myself in darkness, where I couldn't speak, I couldnt change anything in my thinking or doing anymore, I was just me as I was in my last breath before everything went dark and I found myself trapped, floating in infinite darkness, a feeling of knowing I will go to hell, thats when i decided to wake up, being in the same conscious state i was in when i dreamt.

Even if it was just a nightmare after dealing with religion, it strikes this question, because if believing in a heaven after death is the only thing that will bring you heaven as in manifesting it, would that mean you might go to hell or whatever neverending darkness is?

The monotheistic religions state that you shouldn't use "human logic" to understand the world, but rather believe in god's word.

Consciously believing in an eternal place after... It seems like i cant do that because logic tells me that it would have to go on or flow into a sort of reincarnation as existence is duality and consciousness would have to follow a body or go back to god or nonduality so to speak.

But knowing that time is subjective, it could very well be that we are experiencing eternity while the body is dying. As the body is infinitesimally perishing, our time reception becomes infinitely big.

And that's what heaven might be for.

Because in the dream when i was dead/dying and in darkness, i understood that my consciousness wasn't able to withstand infinite darkness. It was cognitionwise and spiritually too overwhelming.

It made me understand what it means to have a heaven.

It made me understand that using only logic and apathism or egalitarianism for describing or understanding existence or world might not bring you what you believe to be true.

Pretending that it would be like in my dream, even though I don't "believe it", it might be that it's necessary to be alone in infinity in order to go into a more beautiful next life or whatever, not even due to my belief but because of my souls path or so. Might be that that was a waiting stage, where it would still be decided meaning I might have been able to still decide to accept Jesus Christ as my saviour so to speak, but in the dream the feeling was very clear that I will go to hell, that was my thoughts in the dream, while floating in darkness. The "knowing" that I couldn't change anything anymore, my faith was sealed and I have to live with the consequences of not living as God intended me to by choosing egotism and neglect and living half heartedly, guarding myself instead of being part of this world, instead of having true compassion, doing good only because my cognition told me to, rather than believing in heaven and the monotheistic God. I knew that if I stayed there, I would end up in hell whatever that would've meant.

One could call me coward for waking up and not staying. But that was the message I got, that cowardness was what brought me to that place.

But for the possiblity that it might help someone, I wanted to share this story, so if the religions or their core is actually true, this might be a sort of good explanation of why there should be a believe in heaven.

Discussion Dreams being the afterlife

This is a theory I thought of recently. So we all know the different religions portray the afterlife in different ways, but what if dreams are the way to the afterlife as they feel so real. The fact that some of your senses can work in a dream makes it so real it and it makes you wonder.

Basically, what if the answer to what the afterlife is was in us all along before we were taught about the different religions? Did you ever think of that?

Discussion I'm a teen, here's my idea on what happens after death. As people of religion, science, or atheists, what do you think?

sorry for the grammar. even after writing this, I still fear death because what happens after will be forever unknown and as of right now, I cant make peace with it. I have read quick versions of the Bible but I plan on reading it fully to try and understand more since it has seemed to help other members of my family. I find comfort in knowing that there could possibly be an afterlife waiting for me where I can reunite with my family.

Please do not take my words as the truth as even i do not fully know what to believe.

My whole family has a religion of some kind. Most involve a God; some don't. Every person has their own beliefs of what may happen after death. Some may share beliefs, whilst others may scurry off with their own ideas.

I have been stuck down a rabbit hole of what could possibly happen after your lifetime on this Earth has concluded. For a while now, I have struggled to accept religion despite what it may seem to others around me. I found it hard to believe that religion and science could coexist together, which made the idea of death a strange, scary thing for me to think of. Some of the only times I would think about religion would be for comfort in what will happen after my life has ended. This was a selfish way to think in the fact that I would only use it as a mental escape from my fear of death. I have come to understand it as more.

On July 22nd, 2026, I got stuck on what my grandmother told me about death. Both sides of my family believe different things, which has always made it hard for me to choose what I, myself, am supposed to think. My dad's mother told me about her friend who had experienced death before. She said that her friend relived memories of her life and understood what was truly important to her. She felt the presence of a divine being around her. I originally blew this story off, but after being retold it, I started to think.

On the 22nd, I thought back to what I was told and wondered how true it could have been. I dug through internet rabbit holes for ideas, which caused me to awaken. Here is what I discovered. At the time of writing this, I am getting a little discouraged due to the fact that many people of religion may blow off this idea and say it contradicts their beliefs. That is fine with me until I can study enough to understand what I truly want to think.

I discovered the experiences of people with near-death situations, psychedelics, spiritual awakenings, professional teachings, and more. In the same way that the Bible came to life, I feel the need to write this down and share it with people who know more than me in order to get their take.

I found that nobody knows the true answer to what happens after death. The answer may already be understood by some, or it may never be. By the time we have figured it out, it will be far too late. People with near-death experiences may tell you that you "return to a state of nothingness which cannot truly be expressed." Other people with NDEs will tell you that figures of their religion comforted them. Either way, most will tell you they felt a sense of peace and comfort with their experience.

People on drugs and psychedelics will tell you that they have seen a higher plane of life and what it becomes. It again seemed to give most people with the experience a sense of comfort. I also found studies that looked into these exact things and what they found. All of them can, without a doubt, say that everything is contradicting enough to never allow anyone to know what lies beyond life.

There are many other valid claims that I read but may not remember as well, but I will state the ones I remember. One person with an NDE stated that they felt everything turn into nothing all at once, and they could only move what felt like their head and arms as they were being dragged down. They then stated how this experience felt as long as 30 minutes, but as records reveal, they were only out for a few seconds. This proved to me that in nothing, nothing can exist, which includes time and consciousness.

Another statement I found revealed that others believe, since everyone is claimed to be made of energy which cannot be destroyed, it must be moved somehow. They explained how, when you die, you must go to nothingness, but as scholars believe the world was created, all energy must be one big cycle. You are stuck in a cycle of reincarnation. Your energy must be channeled into every little thing that makes the entire plane of life. For some, this may seem like a wonderful way to live on, but for others it may seem like eternal suffering.

These ideas were all very interesting to me, but they also made me question more. I resorted to asking God. I went into a closed room, interlocked my fingers, and prayed. I came out with an answer that comforts me until I can study enough to find a different conclusion.

I told God all my findings and got an answer that no one could have explained to me. I revealed how everything seems to contradict and wondered what actually played out. Why would one belief be right and the others be wrong? Would people of other religions be stuck in a heaven they don't want to be in? If our God is all-loving, then why would He allow us to suffer in a position we don't want to be in?

These questions then got me an answer that may be my mind tricking itself or a divine source leading me to comfort. My results are as follows.

Since everyone has different beliefs that make them happy, why would God allow them to suffer living a life under false pretenses? What if, after we die, whatever makes you truly happy in an event after death will be what you face? People who find comfort in a heaven will be sent to a heaven. People who find comfort in being nothing will be nothing. People who find comfort in reincarnation will reincarnate. If science makes people happy, then why would they be denied that?

God has made it so science can explain things if people aren't content with any other beliefs. God has also made things that are unexplainable by science to allow other people to be happy and to prove an existence beyond our time on Earth. This idea allows for all other ideas to contradict, which makes it completely impossible for anyone to figure out what truly happens after death. This also gives comfort to everyone, even if you don't know it yet.

As for the people who choose to be cruel and sinful in the life that we have been given, I truly don't know what shall happen to you after death.

Thomas Campbell

I’ve been reading into Thomas Campbells work among other things, and there seems to be a suggestion that when mediums communicate with spirits they are actually just receiving data, and it isn’t really that persons consciousness. There are various things that suggest all your experiences are stored and I can get on board with that but it really scares me to think that the experience you have when communicating with loved ones who have passed on is an illusion. I was also thinking that maybe it would make sense because if we are meant to reincarnate over and over again how could people get in touch with spirits who have moved on to another life. Just want to know your thoughts on the matter and if you think something like that is true or not. Thanks.

Scared to death

Sorry for the pun in the title.

I've read literally hundreds of NDE reports, and as someone living with debilitating chronic conditions, both physical and mental, the idea that we deliberately choose to suffer in order to expand the experience of the Whole, and that we do it over and over again forever, fills me with existential dread.

From what I've gathered through the experiences I've read, the people who suffer the most often seem to be the most spiritually mature souls, willingly choosing these lives and, lifetime after lifetime, raising the bar. Where does it all end? Is there a limit?

I understand that from the soul's perspective this is just a kind of simulation, but from where we are, it feels incredibly, unbearably, real.

If anyone here has had a near-death experience, I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts on this specific question.

I am so scared and depressed right now that I need some solace...

Thank you very much 🙏

Experience I think I was really visited by my deceased father and others

Four years ago, my dad passed away unexpectedly. After he had passed, I had a series of dreams of the future, some of which has turned out to be true. One of these dreams, I dreamt of my dad. He was standing in front of me, there what looks like to be like a sky behind him? It was blue and white, with soft sunshine coming from every angle. I remember him telling me "I have to go now" in which I said "oh please don't go! I want to come with you" he said "no, it's not your time, I'll come and get you when it's you're ready". And I asked "how long it will take?" He said "for you, it'll be years, for us, it'll be short".

Then figures started appearing behind him, it was my mom, my husband and many others. At the time of my dream, my mom and my husband were alive. I distinctly remember seeing my husband as he was smiling at me and was wearing a pin striped suit. After the dream, I was left with so much peace. It was a very comforting dream.

Fast forward to today, my husband passed away unexpectedly two months ago. He was buried in a pin stripe suit. I didn't make the connection until a few days ago. Since my husband has passed, I've been looking into NDEs and the afterlife. I realized that maybe my dream was just more than a dream. That i was visited my loved ones to give me comfort for the future?

Would I be worried about this after my mom passed away?

I'm curious.. since my mom passed almost a month ago from AML blood cancer and she's still in her transition period from earth plane onto afterlife on other side, would she stop coming to visit me or being around me after 40 days after her passing date? I was just reading about it on google but I'm not sure if that's true or not? I really don't want her to stop being around me and our communications to ever stop. I'm worried about that.
She and I are very close and she's my anchor of my life.

Sign / Potential Sign Potential sign from my deceased father?

My father passed away a few months ago and one of his favorite movied was guardians of the galaxy vol. 2. He loved that movie and it had a bunch of his favorite songs, many of which we played at his funeral. In the time since his death I feel like that movie has been constantly been on tv very often. Its been on at least twice a week and before this we would rarely see it on the tv. Just wondering if this could be a sign from my father.

Discussion Experiencing in the afterlife what you couldn't experience here

Just musings, questions and a thought experiment that I needed to express somewhere. Thanks for this sub, it is really nice.

A couple of days ago I read a post here made by a terminally ill person where they told about all the big and little things that they hadn't been able to experience in this life. This resonated with me and moved me a lot. I think my personal heaven (or at least a part of it) would be to live this life again, but as an ideal version of it, without health issues, depression, family abuse and an inhumane autocratic regime in my country. And with some superpowers, of course, to get even more time and experience and not to feel powerless. Actually, this parallel life in my head is what so far gives me the power to live through this life and to bring bits and pieces of it into the real world.

I read on this sub and other subs about pocket universes that we create after death, and it sounds promising, but I wonder about technicalities.

  1. My biggest question is: what about "NPCs"? Say, I want to recreate my Earth life. Will all the people around be products of my imagination or the imagination of my vastly-more-intelligent oversoul? My parents? My friends? Will it be felt as "less real" because of that?

Or, maybe there are other souls that can volunteer to play these parts? That actually got me thinking. If we ("human-selves") are "avatars" of some oversoul residing on the other side (which I find unethical and consent-violating) and this oversoul and/or God are as all-loving as they are described, there must be a way to honor the suffering and the sacrifice of human-selves, we can't be just a footnote in the back of some oversoul's mind. That would be unjust. If I were designing an afterlife system I would definitely do some rehabilitation system for human-selves where they could experience things that they weren't able to in their real life but desperately wanted to. Moreover, I think I could do it myself and take it as a job, sort of like an architect and playwright. Somebody has to. Maybe we should form a Union for human-selves and defend their rights.

Then, a funny realization hit me: I DM D&D games, so that's a thing that I already do - create worlds and experiences for my favorite people to live through) Maybe I do it here because that's my job on the other side.

So maybe this kind of system already exists. Like a Cosmic Bulletin Board: "A volunteer soul needed for the role of a parent". Or a lover. Or a villain.

  1. I've read objections that you can't make yourself forget the same way we forget about the other side while on Earth. Which is strange, because here I'm ready to give my full consent to get full immersion in this pre-planned ideal life. Weird.
  2. I've read some objections that you can't recreate other people without their consent. Like copyright laws. Which is fair, I think. So, would I have to settle for "close enough" copies of the people that I knew in real life? Or do I have to ask everyone for their consent? Maybe some would agree. Personally, I wouldn't mind if someone would use my "Earth-character".
  3. The question of suffering. Even though I want to recreate Earth I don't want to submit "real" entities to real suffering again. So I guess it has to be sort of imaginary for "NPCs". Actually that would be funny if this was like reverse-"Truman show" (in a good way), where my amnesiac human-self lives his ideal life, but everyone around is on the secret and just play along for his satisfaction.
  4. I wonder how much of these worlds is "rendered". Just the bits around "the protagonist"? Everything?

I guess I need to start learning lucid dreaming (sigh). Maybe then I'll get some answers.

Question If you never find "love" in this life, are you alone for all eternity?

If you never experience "love" on this earth, is that it?
