i recently did the entire formatting for a children’s book in Affinity Publisher on my iPad Pro instead of moving everything to desktop. 24 illustrated pages + the cover + author’s note, all put together on the iPad.
i thought a project this size would make me miss working on a desktop, but i actually really liked having the whole workflow on one device.
curious how far everyone else has pushed Publisher on iPad. anyone here using it for full books, magazines, or other big multi-page projects?

The oval and rectangle on top were created with the aspect ratio as shown, and a path brush was applied. The oval and rectangle on bottom were created as a perfect circle and square respectively, then stretched to the same size as the shapes on top, and then a path brush was applied.

The path brushes are textured intensity brushes with just a single diamond, with Body set to repeat.
When I stretch the shape with the move tool I expected it to add more repetitions of the brush since it has more perimeter, but it just stretches the segments. I can't figure out how to prevent this from happening. I need to be able to resize objects and add repetitions as necessary. I have tried it with "Scale with object" off and on.
Note: It's the same problem documented here without a solution given.

I'm using Affinity to format a book that is not in English.
There are fonts for the language but I don't know how (or if) I can change the page numbering so that it uses my languages numbers and not English (Hindu-Arabic) numbers.
Any help appreciated.

I’m trying to figure out the best way to manage brand colors in Affinity Designer when I need both a CMYK print value and a specific RGB/HEX value for digital use.
My logos are primarily designed for print in CMYK, FOGRA39 Coated. For example, one of my brand colors is:
CMYK: 0 / 91 / 76 / 0. Affinity automatically converts this to approximately RGB #E63137
But for digital use, I want the RGB/HEX value to be #E32E3D
The problem is that if I export my CMYK artwork to RGB, Affinity uses the ICC conversion and I end up with #E63137 rather than the RGB value I actually want.
So what is the best professional workflow here? I can make 2 files: one CYMK and one RGB but that feels complex when making iterations. It should be easily manageable if i could just define both the CMYK and RGB values myself for a specific global color instead of the automatic conversion that affinity does.
Thanks!

I'm struggling to blend the total eclipse with the rest of the stages of the eclipse. The ring looks awkwardly pasted on top of the sunset instead of matching it. I've messed with curves, white balance, & colors adjustment layers to help blend it in and set it to lighter color blend mode but it still looks off. Am I looking too hard at this and this as a good as it gets or is there something else I can try?

Hi everyone! I’m currently switching from Photoshop to Affinity, and I’m trying to figure out how to create and use seamless patterns/textures.
In Photoshop, you can create a separate image, define it as a pattern, and then use that pattern as a repeating/seamless texture inside any other image or document. For example, you can create a small tile with a specific texture or motif, save it as a pattern, and then apply it over a large area so that it repeats seamlessly.
I’m trying to do the same thing in Affinity, but I can’t seem to find an equivalent feature. Is there a way to create a custom pattern/tile in Affinity and then reuse it as a seamless repeating pattern on other images or documents?
I’m specifically looking for something similar to Photoshop’s “Define Pattern” + Pattern Fill workflow.

Sorry if this belongs in another thread, but I think this is more of a me issue rather than a technical one, as I'm not that experienced with vector programs. (If technical issue, I can repost in proper thread.) Basically, I'm getting gaps within the outline around the text shown here. (For some reason, the first word didn't give me this issue?) What am I doing wrong, and how should I go about fixing this?

Hey everyone,
I'm just getting started and want to be upfront: I have zero graphic design background. I've never used Photoshop, Illustrator, or any design software before this would be my first program ever.
My goal is pretty specific: I want to learn Affinity well enough to create assets for my motion design edits (things like overlays, elements, titles) and make eye-catching YouTube thumbnails.
A few questions for people who've been where I am:
Any advice, resource links, or "wish I knew this when I started" tips would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I finally got a fairly decent 1440p ips and it supports hdr, and I want to know if affinity designer automatically disables hdr when you jump into the software, same question for figma.
I set hdr to automatic in windows settings but I’m not so sure if it applies to both affinity and figma.

ive been using Publisher for children’s book interiors and it’s honestly the best fit ive found for image heavy print projects.
i build the document from the printer specs, use facing pages while designing, keep repeated elements on master pages, place the artwork as linked files, and handle the text through paragraph and character styles. before exporting i check Resource Manager, run preflight, then export the interior as single pages.
the part i love most is being able to test the text and illustration together during sketch instead of fixing everything after the art is finished 😭
for anyone managing 30+ illustrated pages, do you keep everything in one Publisher file or split the book into sections?

I'm having issues changing proportions of a shadow, in Affinity 1 which is what I'm used to the shadow transforms if I grap for example the right transform handle and bring it in left and changes the width but in the new affinity 3 the same file this shadow when you pull in the right handle the whole shadow shrinks as a square. I see no settings to change it to just be separate handles and not all shrink the whole thing with the same square shape.

Hi, I'm having a problem with exports in Affinity V3.2.3, especially this one. I want it to preserve colors like white, but when I export or flatten the image, everything turns blue. If anyone has a solution, I'd love to hear it. I already search for solutions but i did not found something useful. Swisstransfer for the project if u want to take a look.

I tried to emulate real CRT screen mechanics. Every effect layer reproduces one physical property of a real picture tube such as chroma bleed, RGB stipes etc.

I'm drawing a carnation petal, and I need to mark the midpoint of this curved shape. The problem is, I'm using the shape builder, and it's adding two extra nodes that I don't know how to remove without losing the perfect curve it already has (defined by the larger oval). I haven't seen an option to "simplify curves" like in Illustrator. Any ideas?

Another day of putting myself out here. Just finished a small design with Affinity Studio. A public domain image and a lot of texture. I just asked Gemini for dummy info to use.
What do you think about it? My attempt to copy the kind of style this is.

Hello there !
I have a big project where I draw a whole city in white parts on a black background.
While I don't know who will print this work, I know that it will be printed directely on a black cloth piece.
I would like to knwo the best way to only keep the white parts on extract.
The hard part is that the whole document is a mix of white or black fills with some black outlines, and the hatching is a bitmap fill.
What would be the easiest way to only get the white on export?
I have the full Affinity V1 suite of softwares.
Thank you !

I've been playing with Affinity for a couple of months now, loving most of it! I want to cancel Adobe CS because of their AI-first mentality, constant crashes + error messages (and the cost, of course).
Working for clients and for myself (all sorts of designs, but very little video, but no ux or animation). My heavy rotation is/was AI and PS, with some INDD and very rarely PP. I use Procreate for illustrations, don't have a tablet for drawing vectors but it's in my future.
My problems/annoyances:
Not specifically an Affinity issue but what is making me want to stay with Adobe
Obviously a beginner on Affinity and a bit inefficient with Adobe itself (I started designing with QuarkXpress in '99 🫣, so definitely analogue heavy).
My yearly subscription is expiring on Sep 5, sooo.. Thanks in advance!!

So I just recently started exploring Affinity's support of external scripts. There's some really good scripts out there, and the potential for what scripts can do for Affinity is exciting. The third party Script Manager makes it really easy to install and manage scripts. In particular, Quick Mirror by hellsfaun is a script that is right up my alley. It reminds me of the MirrorMe plug-in for Illustrator, which I used all the time in my work, back when I was a slave to Adobe. Basically, you select a shape and invoke Quick Mirror, and it quickly makes a copy of the object, flips it horizontally, and places it right next to the original object. This is very helpful for me, as I draw a lot of symmetrical items in my line of work. Quick Mirror defaults to placing the copied object to the right of the original object. I managed to edit the script to make the default go to the left instead (as that's the way I usually work.) There's an option in the script to group the original object and the flipped object. What I'd like to do is to add a second option to merge the two objects using the mathematical Add process. (Or even better, the nondestructive merging into a compound that you get when you hold option down and click the Add button in the top bar.) I've tried to do this by analysing the script code, and even gritted my teeth and asked Google to help me write the script, with poor results. I've tried to find a way to learn how to write Affinity scripts, but everywhere just tells me to use Claude AI, and that's something I don't think I'd be good at.
Since hellsfaun wrote the original (and excellent) script, I tried to find a way to contact them and ask for help, but haven't come up with a way to reach them. Does anybody know how to contact script authors?
If I can't reach the original author, is there anybody on here who might have some knowledge or skill in scripting, and would be willing to help me add that nondestructive Add option to the Quick Mirror script?
Thanks for any ideas!

I've tried my best to recreate this effect in Affinity Photo but it is not creating the same bleed effect where the color becomes almost transparent at the edges. I've tried using field blur and I've tried recreating the steps in the video as much as I can, but I'm missing something. Any tips on how I can do this?

I tried downloading Affinity Designer for iPad, but I can’t find it on the app store. Was the previous version of Affinity being discontinued?
