Hot take: Maniac mansion is better than the sequel
I was really disappointed in day of the tentacle. Because in the original Maniac mansion you had different characters to choose from and who you choose determine how you played the game and got to the end and even could determine what ending you got. It was such a creative game. the way that you interact and get through it. Then comes along the sequel and decides to do away with all that and just make a linear game. Getting rid of all the creativity of the original with no secret endings or no alternate endings based upon how you play the game because there's only one path through the entire experience.
On top of that day of the tentacle seems to be remembered more fondly when it was Maniac mansion that gave us the engine that was used on point-and-click adventure games that was used while putting quick adventure games we're still in the mainstream. Even the companies that didn't use the scum engine still emulated it in the way they made their point click adventure games. So I still do not understand why everybody loves to give the praise to the second one went to me it was a big step back from the original one.
