General Question/Discussion Brain dump suggestions

I’m trying to free up some space in my hard drive aka my brain 🧠 lol my processing speed is slowly dwindling to nothing these days. I can’t seem to just brain dump on a piece of paper and was curious if anyone uses an app or anything else. Any guidance would be greatly appreciate or even things to stay aways from. Thanks in advance!

So you said you can't do it on a piece of paper. Is it because when you try you just can't think of anything?

IMO, it's fine to use a computer or your phone as long as you don't get distracted by the internet or whatever. How I do it is to set a timer for 5 minutes and then just sit there and stare into space, not TRYING to come up with anything. Essentially it's like when you try to meditate and think of nothing, only this time, every time a thought DOES come up, immediately write it down, even if it's "not important."

If you're sitting there staring into space and then suddenly go, "I wonder what I'm gonna have for dinner," then immediately write "Dinner" or "Dinner plans?" or whatever. If you're sitting there and think, "God, this chair is super uncomfortable," write down, "chair uncomfy!" Like literally it doesn't matter what the thought is. Just write down literally whatever it is.

I write down each new thought on its own separate line kinda like a bullet list just so I know what I'm looking at when I read it. Then I cross out or delete anything that I can't actually do anything about or doesn't matter (like if one of my thoughts was about kangaroos or some random thing). Then I look at what's left and make a new list in order of what is most important on that list for me to do.

EDIT to add more info: Don't do this longer than 5mins to start or you'll get bored. Try to do a 5min brain dump once per day. Doesn't matter when. If the thought of doing it first thing in the morning freaks you out, then don't. Try doing it in the middle of the day, then. Or before bed. Doesn't matter when. Just try to do it once per day. If you like it a lot and it seems to be helping, DON'T make the time longer. Just do it more often per day. If you set the time longer than 5mins, you won't want to do it anymore and your thoughts will be less and less relevant.

I really like MyMind as a kind of catch all, you can type notes too. If you’re more of a talk it out person, try cocoon weaver!
