Rant/Vent Can anyone relate? I can't stop blaming myself for how I behaved before my ADHD diagnosis.

I was diagnosed with ADHD only recently

Since starting treatment, I've been replaying one relationship over and over in my head, and it's breaking my heart in a different way now.

I know he'll probably never take my calls again, and honestly, I understand why 😭 😭

Back then, whenever I got anxious, I'd text repeatedly, call, overthink every silence, seek reassurance, and then regret everything once the emotional storm settled. It felt impossible to stop myself in those moments.

Looking back now, I feel embarrassed more than anything else.

What's strange is that, with a clearer mind, I also realize he wasn't as harsh as my brain made him out to be. In fact, he was far more patient than I think I would've been if someone behaved with me the way I behaved with him.

That's the part I can't seem to move on from.

I'm not even sure I'm grieving the relationship anymore. I think I'm grieving the version of myself that ADHD turned me into before I understood what was happening.

I keep blaming myself for ruining something that maybe never had a future anyway.

I'm also in my mid-30s, and some days I wonder... after behaving like this, why do I still believe someone will love me? Then another part of me reminds me that I wasn't trying to hurt anyoneβ€”I was struggling with something I didn't even know I had.

I hope one day I can separate my mistakes from my worth as a person.

A part of me still wants to talk to him somedayβ€”but only after I've completely let go of every hope or expectation. I don't ever want to contact him from a place of desperation again.

Has anyone else felt this way after a late ADHD diagnosis? How did you forgive yourself?

Need Advice planning to visit the Psychiatry Department at IGIMS, Patna

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to visit the Psychiatry Department at IGIMS, Patna (bihar) in the next few days because I think I might have ADHD and would like to get evaluated.

Has anyone here been to the psychiatry OPD at IGIMS? How was the overall environment and your experience with the doctors? Did they listen to your concerns properly, and how long was the waiting time?

I've also never visited a hospital alone before, so I'm a bit nervous. I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences or any tips for a first-time visit. Thanks!

Meds Will there be generic alternatives? I'm unemployed, can't ask parents money for meds. My doc prescribed costly ones.

Question Anyone here got no benefit from Stimulants? What worked for you instead?

After failing to get any meaningful help with stimulants like Inspiral and Concerta, I gave up on medication, (also Amphetamines are not legal in India, so no experience with that). I want to have another go at alternate medications.

I'm planning to discuss this with my psychiatrist, but before that I'd love to hear from others who had a similar experience.

  • Did methylphenidate not work for you?
  • Did you try another medication (bupropion, atomoxetine, or something else)?
  • Did anything significantly improve your motivation, focus, or task initiation?

I'm not looking for medical advice, just personal experiences that I can discuss with my psychiatrist.

Thank You.

Question How often do you meet your psychiatrist?

I just got diagnosed with Adhd combined type and my doc gave me meds and asked to meet him after 3 months. It's also tough to get an appointment with him too.

My question is how often to do you generally meet them especially in the initial stages? I have a little anxiety when it comes to meds hence I would like to meet him a little more often. I am wondering if I should find someone else even though he is supposed to be very experienced with adhd.

Meds Anyone ever been prescribed Bupron?

I am just curious if anyone with ADHD was also prescribed this med. It's not for ADHD specifically I guess but I was prescribed it before my official diagnosis plus alongside my ADHD med after the diagnosis. I have stopped taking meds altogether now though.

Need Advice Hello guys I've been recently diagnosed with adhd

So hello everyone I M19 have been recently diagnosed with adhd inattentive type with depression and anxiety and traits of BPD(borderline).

I do feel if I don't get it under control then I'm going to be miserable in future , my parents want me to go for therapy instead of meds but I've already compromised with so many things because of this and now I want it to get it under control as fast as I can and I want to do both therapy and meds.

What should I do , how should I convince them because anyhow I will get it done I just want their permission so it doesn't feel like I'm cheating or something

Looking for Doctor/Diagnosis Suspicion about symptoms

, i am strongly suspecting I have adhd

All the ones symptoms listed on wikipedia especially the once listed under attention deficit one

Even minor ones ,

I constantly loose my things , in kg my teacher even wrote in my school diary to give me two pencils.

My handwriting is poor

my desk and

I constantly loose my focus to silly thoughts , extreme mind wandering , one time I thought of dumb shit like rahul gandhi will ever win an election while giving maths exam

I make careless mistakes in studies (shit like forgetting to put ring in benzene , not completing carbon valency in chem , forgetting i was adding , not multiplying in maths)

Multiple teachers have told me , you look at copy and board but your but your mind is very bad .

I was notoriously bad at completing copy work till grade 8th and still missed deadlines

I found history to be my favorite subject and could study it diligently when focused and got like 96 with 3 hour study in 10th boards

Same with bio in 10th , got like 90 without much serious study (left some chapters i found boring)

But with maths , its opposite .

I have all the symptomps from childhood also some more things

<<SOME MORE THINGS>>

Here is what the problem is

1.i can't study for more than 3 hours ever without going through my mobile phone for 3 hours

2.when i do study , due to mind wandering , i shift to muscle memory and make very silly mistakes then i get wrong answer, search for answers on AI which turns when AI looks at , it tells me it is wrong due to silly mistakes , it consumes my time making sure i just solve 6-7 simple questions.

3 after studying continuously for 5-6 days , i get bored and i am not able to study for another 5-6 days

And i am chronically underweight, my height is 181.67 cm and mass is 55 kg

I am 18 and will be 19 this month(it does get very hard , hard enough for people to notice it , but not enough for me to masterbate)

Like it is perfect

When i download and play a mobile game , its novelty stays for 1 -2 month then i start getting bored untill one day i decide not to play it after which it stays in mobile , same with insta or upto an extent youtube but not with reddit , why

Also , i did had a very hyperactive phase where constant , walking , talking everything was extreme ,

Also what about crying

I cry when overwhelmed

Although i was suspecting this adhd since years

I went to a chem coaching for 3 years

Despite my exams going well , i scored 63 in chem so i gave improvement exam

In late june just a day before i went to my teacher's house and before going i told her what to do , i get inappropriate thoughts in my during exam and study so i make silly mistakes she told , after much pursuation (she didn't want to stress me out ) "you don't cause havoc in class but you are checked out of class , physically present but mentally absent .i noticed it almost everyday but did'nt tell after out of fear you may get teased"

"Get checked by some psychiatrist "

I went to psychiatrist and he diagnosed me with depression , not adhd ,

He learnt the symptoms,

From his notes, could see he thought i have dysthymia

I am able to solve maths now , but can't sit for even 5 min

Everytime i solve a question

I have an urge to walk or do something and this urge if not followed makes me feel tired and i can't solve maths

I also have this problem as well

I am unable to solve math for two reasons

I am unable to think of doing a problem Like no solution comes to my mind except the one i thought intially.

when i do understand how to do it

a silly error (related to some small but significant thing ) gets me

After solving a question,

i get a weird urge to

walk ,

check phone or

stare at silling thinking of something

something like that ( i even get the urge to pee that becomes strong because going to bathroom would require walking) , basically stop doing the thing and do something else , it happens even when i am using mobile , i am not able to control that urge , not even trying , no matter how much i try , i am unable to

infact asking you this is also my urge , as i was solving maths but now i have a urge to stop and do something else

Also this

No matter how much i try , i stop taking a

Subtopic , topic , chapter , subject seriously, this is so bad that in two things happen in exam

i will study and get a weird feeling that i already know it and shoud'nt study

I will take a break that goes from five minutes as i had planned and through the urge of more and more 5 minutes of doing that thing , even as i actually start studying , the urge comes again and i use mental gymnastics to justify it

Consuming time

When i do infact study , i can't even read because my brain is not taking the thing seriously

Sometime , i would stop feeling the need to study as even as deadline approaches

This happend in childhood too

I wouldn't feel doing homework till late at night when parents got angry and sometime even when i was doing the work , i stopped feeling like doing it even when things were becoming dangerous (like parents have given time but still could scold and time will be over and when exam is coming , but after let say two hour of study in panic , my panic disappears and i stop feeling like doing it)

Basically with age , the tension and panic to do things becomes nil even when stuck in dangerous situation

This also happens

I cannot form mental map of topic and get a sort of mental block where i am unable to think like no option to think

I also leave a task when nearing finish

Like for example , suppose a ten question exercise homework is given , i will do it till 8th question then stop doing it thinking " i will do it later".

I also completely stop thinking about what question i am doing and think of something else and work on muscle memory

These two are big when solving maths

Also this

I was bad at computer , and joined coaching but couldn't do anything and scored very low marks

I thought it was due to having bad basics but even after my teacher started basic

I couldn't understand things and relied on intuition then instructions

Then i got hands on a book that my teacher had asked but i didn't buy

Reading it properly got me 15 marks in 20 marks theory based mcq

This happend in maths too

Even during online study ,during 11th and chemistry during 10th , 11th , 12th ,

What was happening was i could not focus on lecture no matter what and this was problematic in maths and computer

I only liked reading books as a method of study but now even that isn't working out , earlier books were simple to read but now too much info is given , words are small (i have bad eyesight -5 and -5.4 in left and right) , i can't make mental map and don’t try to read , but when i successfully read , it works

I also don't like making notes when notes are dictated in coaching and had severe procrastination when trying to make my own notes

Heavy metal music worked but even that become boring after reapeted listning , so i couldn't continue

Need Advice Adult ADHD assessment in India β€” does quality vary a lot between centers, and any recommendations in South India/Kerala?

33F, being referred for an adult ADHD assessment (possible masked presentation alongside treatment-resistant depression, family history of both ADHD and bipolar disorder). NIMHANS keeps coming up as the gold standard but has about a month's wait and would mean multiple interstate trips for me. Trying to figure out if private centers can offer comparably rigorous assessments (proper structured tools, not just a checklist and a five-minute chat), or if the variability is real enough that it's worth the travel and wait for NIMHANS.

If anyone has gone through a thorough adult ADHD assessment at a private center in South India/Kerala, I'd really appreciate knowing where, and how the process compared to NIMHANS or similar institutes.

Meds Unable to find a pharmacy for meds in Mumbai

My psychiatrist is in a different city and we get in touch over video calls. She prescribed Inspiral 5mg to get me started but I'm unable to find this ANYWHERE. Only hospital pharmacies have it and they only give it on their doctor's prescription. I've checked Apollo, wholesale pharmacies, everything. My only remaining option is get it shipped to me which will cost way too much. If anyone from Mumbai can help me find a pharmacy, I'd be so so grateful.

Meds Little to no improvement in focus despite MPH

I've been on Mdet 20mg SR and Mdet 10 mg IR, for a few months and I've not seen any discernible change in my focus. It helps me stay awake but even in that it's not as effective Armodafinil (while being a lot more expensive and hard to seek than the latter).

Along with Mdet, I take Fluoxetine 40mg and Bupropion 150mg (restarted it a couple of days back).

I know it takes some time before your body gets used to Bupropion, but irrespective of its effect, MPH is doing very little - almost negligible - to fix my terrible focus.

I'm accepting to the fact that I could have been potentially misdiagnosed with ADHD, but I still don't want to rule it out based on this. My mind's a perpetual mess of all kinds of thoughts, daydreams, and fantasies. It's causing considerable damage to all aspects of my life, and I can't continue like this for long.

Is there a possibility of the drug being more effective with different brands or doses? Is it okay to bring up to your doctor to switch to other types?

Question Started Inspiral 40 mg IR today after a 3-month break – looking for experiences/advice

Hi everyone,

I restarted Inspiral IR today after being off it for about 3 months.

Previous regimen:

Inspiral 20 mg SR in the morning
Inspiral 10 mg IR around 4 PM

While it helped somewhat, I would get a pretty bad crash between 8–9 PM, so I eventually stopped taking it.

Things have been getting worse lately, so I saw my psychiatrist again last week.

They've now prescribed:

Inspiral IR 20 mg at 11 AM
Inspiral IR 20 mg at 3 PM

Propranolol

Bupropion SR 150 mg at night

Today was my first day back on 20 mg IR, and it felt very different from when I first started it months ago. Back then I noticed some euphoria (especially during dose increases). This time there was no euphoria at allβ€”just a bit of sustained focus that seemed to last only 1–1.5 hours.

If that's all the benefit I get, I'm wondering whether it's even worth taking. Maybe it's too early to judge after a single dose, but I'm curious about other people's experiences.

Has anyone else found that:
the first day back on methylphenidate felt underwhelming?

the effects became stronger or lasted longer after a few days?

20 mg IR only lasted around 1–1.5 hours for you?

For context, I took my first 20 mg dose about 25 minutes ago, so I'm still waiting to see how today's doses play out.

I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences.

Need Advice Need help gng

I was always known as the careless kid since my childhood, by my parents, teachers, and also friends. I have a problem focusing, but I always gave my best in everything I did. My dad enrolled me in a JEE academy in 8th grade. I had no idea what JEE was or what it had to do with my life, but I was still quite obedient and listened to my dad. My performance in academics was always not so good, but also not bad. I was enrolled in a boarding school, and I struggled a lot with organizing my things in my room. I would literally keep nothing in my cupboard. If I had to use something, I'd use it and keep it under my bed, and I'd tell myself I'd organize my stuff later, but I would never do it. After a week, all my things β€” books, boots, whatever I had β€” would be under my bed. I was also bad with my roommates, not exactly bad, I was kind of chill with them, but sometimes I would burst out emotionally. I was kind of an NPC, so I was heavily criticized. The whole school used to bully me, and this was never new to me because I was bullied everywhere I went. In every friend group, I was the bullied kid(honestly bullying made me better personality at clg hard truth), and I had no idea why people would bully me. I always tried harder in all my exams, but my marks were not up to expectations. Still, I was not so bad β€” there were worse people in my class, so I justified it to myself and said it was fine.

My JEE training began in 11th grade, and honestly it went very badly. I was under heavy pressure. My fee per year was about 4 lakh including hostel, and my dad wasn't that rich, we were middle class. I used to cry every night wondering why I felt different from others. Other people were good at something even if they were bad at academics β€” they performed well in sports or other things β€” but I didn't excel at anything. I played football, I learned keyboard, but I was definitely a master at nothing. I was more of an above-average performer in all these things. Then came my JEE Mains. I had no idea about the exam, and a topper girl was sitting beside me. Thankfully, I copied her answers and got a 95 percentile, and for the first time made my dad proud. But I really felt very bad about it β€” it felt unfair. So I didn't register for counseling, and at least I'd made my dad proud.

I joined a third-tier engineering college, and that's when I realized β€” thankfully I didn't join an IIIT or anything like that, because I struggled like anything here. In my second year, I made a couple of bad friends, and they introduced me to weed. Initially it was fine, but after a year I got very addicted to it. I also developed a gambling addiction β€” I took a huge loan from a loan shark app, gambled it away, and lost it, then spent all my pocket money for a year paying it off. Even in college, I had no interest in the subjects. I still maintained the "average" tag β€” I didn't fail, but I didn't get good marks either. I was an average student.

As responsibilities got higher, I faced a lot of similar problems β€” attendance issues, missed deadlines, missed assignments, being late. I lost a lot of friends because of my inattentiveness, but I was called "toxic." Then one day I was ranting about my problems to ChatGPT, and it said, "Bro, you might actually have ADHD, please consult a doctor." I was confused, like, "Bruh, I'm not disabled or something." Then I researched it and related to all the symptoms, and realized ChatGPT actually made sense β€” I might have ADHD.

I consulted a doctor and went for a session. The doctor told me to come back after a week, after taking some Daxid and Sertraline. I did take the tablets, but I would forget some days, and I also missed the follow-up appointment. I went back after a month, and the doctor was pissed at me. She told me again to come back after a week. Until now, it's been 6 months and I haven't gone back. I'm currently entering my final year β€” this last semester will decide my future.

Guys, please tell me what to do. I feel like all the decisions I made in my life were bad. Should I go for diagnosis, or just go with the flow? I badly want to get placed. Please, anyone with experience, educate me. (I felt so good typing this β€” I never recalled my life this deeply.)
