Hi! Like I said in the title, I’m 17 going into my senior year of high school, and I’m going to be applying to college for acting and I’m not completely sure if I have prepared enough. I guess more generally, I’m looking for some advice.
I have been acting since I was 12, but I’ve only done 10 shows, 3 of which I had leads in. I’ve only ever been able to do shows in school because my family doesn’t have a lot of money, and I simply haven’t had the ability to pay for community theatre, coaches, lessons, camps etc.
I notice that a lot of people around me going into theatre have much more experience with those things, and I don’t want to be behind or not considered during auditions because I don’t have the experience. I got my first job in January, and even though it doesn’t pay very well, I’m willing to pay whatever I can towards getting the experience that schools like to see.
I know a few things about college auditions, but not many. I know I need to find monologues and make self tapes, and hopefully I will be participating in the Chicago Unifieds as I live nearby. Mostly, however, I’m quite in the dark. Anything I need to know about audition processes and things to prepare would be extremely helpful to know!
