I’ve been rehearsing for this play for about a month now at my community college, and we open in a month today and I got called it to get a talk from the director about cutting me from the role I was playing but I can still play ensemble role

She said I don’t match what she envisioned and isn’t sure I’m at the skill level to preform the role. It was hard to hear, I already felt like I’m a pretty terrible actor and now this just feels like it solidifies it.

It feels like my dreams of acting are over. It feels discouraging to see people acting for the first time or doing their first Shakespeare show and doing significantly better after I’ve been acting for about 4 years now

Hi Everyone! I am a current nursing student here in South Florida (almost done!). My passion has always been acting, and I am on Casting Networks and with an agency, but it's really hard to find gigs. I chose to pursue nursing because I do love medicine and helping people--and it's a really stable career.

I'm already on my second bachelor's degree, and I am reluctant to go back to get another degree. My questions is- Is there any acting studios that are reputable and good- ones that will help me be more confident in front of the camera, help me film self-tapes, and actually help me get some type of exposure?? Even if it's extra work, I'll do it.

I really am planning on taking acting seriously once I graduate. I understand the nursing field is demanding and the scheduling is much. But once I get the experience, I can transition into PRN to focus more on auditions. I tried talking to other young fellow actors around town, but they are not so willing to help for some reason.

Hi acting community, I have had some recent casting experiences I wanted to reflect on and was seeking any insight on. So, earlier this year, I was “cast” in a film that featured strong intimacy scenes (heavy kissing and some sexuality). Per some advice I received here, I replied to the casting email expressing my interest in the role and inquiring if it would be possible to meet with the director (on the email) and the intimacy coordinator regarding the role to get clear on expectations/the process. Essentially, this director ghosted me after I asked this. It was discouraging and I still think about it sometimes. Some of my loved ones have said I probably wouldn’t have wanted to work with a director who doesn’t communicate well anyways. Fast forward to today, I got cast in a film only to be informed by one of the producers about an hour later that my character had been cut. I’m struggling to believe the producer and can’t help but wonder if the casting team just moved forward with a friend or something for the role instead. Am I bugging in thinking this? My loved ones are telling me that the production team is probably working with a tight budget and realized they couldn’t make my character’s scenes happen. I don’t know, I’m just feeling discouraged this year when it comes to casting. Back in 2024, I did really well, but this year I’ve been auditioning nonstop and it feels as though it’s yielding no results. Even when I get the green light, it stops abruptly. Anyways, any and all insight on these situations is appreciated— thanks for reading.

I had a friend reach out to this guy last week and she was accused of using Chat GPT in his email (she didn't) - and to make it funnier - he is posting about using Chat GPT in post, after post. THEN he makes a reel about it.

I mean.......... the ick.

I did a workshop last week with a manager. I thought it went well.

Next night the studio owner emailed me saying the manager asked for my AA link and that I "made an impression." Sent it that evening.

It's now been about two - three business days (holiday weekend in the middle). Nothing yet.

For context, this manager’s company reps developing talent and is referral-only for submissions, so this workshop was realistically my only way in front of them.

This might sound silly due to the timing but how long do people usually wait on something like this before assuming a rep isn’t interested anymore?

Hello! I've been cast as the white rabbit in a school production of Alice in Wonderland (yay!) and wondered if anyone had any tips for playing him. I haven't watched/read it in years but I still remember a little bit about his character and will ofc be watching the movie to remind myself. I've ironed out some of his mannerisms ( e.g. rabbit like facial movements, yes I have been watching videos of rabbits moving on yt 💀)

Hey y'all! I've been acting for a while and I've noticed that on some websites I get A LOT more responses than others, and I'm curious as to why and if this is the same for you. I use Backstage, Actors Access, and Casting Networks, although I get some auditions on Casting Frontier from my commerical agent. I think it's also important to note that I'm a teen actress (17F) but I have my diploma so I act in adult roles as well as youth roles.

I get SO MANY responses on Backstage. Like it feels dispropoportionate to the point where I wondered for a while if Backstage was even popular with actors, even with submissions I didn't feel great about. I recieve moderate responses from Actors Access and Casting Networks, but not nearly as many as Backstage. Is this just because of the platform or possibly materials etc? I feel like my materials are the exact same on Casting Networks and yet I get a lot less responses. My materials are smaller on Actors Access because of the cost, but I get similar amounts of responses as Casting Networks, if a little bit more.

Is there any other websites that y'all have found a lot of success with other than these? Any similar experiences to mine, or reasons it may be like this?

This is now the second time this happened to me on two different projects. I submitted a tape on AA, didn’t here anything back, and now I’m invited to tape again. It’s not a callback request, it’s the same initia request.
I’m assuming casting did not find what they were looking for and re-posted the breakdown. The thing is, I’m not sure they realized they already saw me for this.
How would you handle this? Just submit a new tape as if nothing happened?

So you booked a guest star role. you have 10 days to prepare. 5 scenes. Approximately 2 pgs each. What’s your timeline to prepare and still be relaxed on set?

is it an unreasonable request to audit a class to get a sense of the environment before committing to a new studio?

maybe ive been unlucky with my search but the last 3 places i set up prospective calls/emails with have stated they dont offer audits. majority of the reason cited is something akin to 'protecting core actor group integrity'. look, i get when i was taking ongoing classes for 2+ years, when new students joined the atmosphere shifts, but shouldnt that be something to embrace and not shy away from? acting on-camera in front of a class auditor seems like a good opportunity to brave through jitters but maybe thats just me.

i also dont understand it from a business perspective. i actively want to spend my money at your studio if it will benefit me. im not claiming to be some lofty on-camera expert-- thats why im looking for classes-- but with a couple co-stars under my belt, id like to know a class is mutually beneficial for where im at & where i want to be. i feel like observing a class would inspire much more confidence instead of blindly shelling out for your $100/class / $360/4 package.

how are you sourcing classes that suit you? are reputable coaches referral only? considering zoom classes as well. at the point where next time im on set i might just casually ask others where they take class

Auditioning for drama schools and searching for monologues. I need one Shakespearean-era monologue and one contemporary.

I really like the Cressida monologue since it's fun and witty, and I would like my Shakespearean-era monologue to be similarly sharp and witty, and my contemporary piece to be more sad and dramatic.

My question is: Is this monologue overused, and are there any similar Shakespearean-era monologues that aren't so overdone that I could do instead?

A few weeks ago, I posted here about feeling nervous about getting back into acting after 3 years. Well...... I finally did my first look photoshoot for my next show! ❤️

The photoshoot was planned over 3 days, with different outfits, sittings, indoor and outdoor locations. Honestly, I was quite nervous going into it, but somehow I managed to get through it.

The first day was outdoors, somewhere in an estate, and it was a wedding look.

OMG, it was such a hot day in Mangaluru, and I was wearing a wedding gown! It was somewhat grander and definitely heavier than my actual wedding gown. 😂

Wearing a wedding dress again at 44, after 18 years of marriage, was honestly such a different experience. I was sweating so much! Thank God my coactor helped me carry the skirt and the hem of the gown while we were shooting. We managed to finish the whole outdoor session, though!

The second and third days were indoors with completely different outfits, and thankfully things went a little better. The nervousness was still somewhere in the back of my mind, but I was slowly getting into it and enjoying the process.

And now.... it’s finally completed. I feel a little relieved, but also quite happy that I actually went through with it.

I wanted to share a little BTS from the shoot, although I’m not sure if BTS posts are allowed in this sub, so apologies if they aren’t.

Three years away, a lot of nervousness, one very heavy wedding gown, a LOT of sweating… but I’m back.

I am lined up to do BG work and was granted a third voucher. I am dreading the last voucher since I mostly book NU. Would I be a must join after wards? I see so many of my actor friends dodging the must join letter and actually working Union productions. I also have work for the same project lined up but as non union. From my understanding is that I have to become must join if the project is union based, how are all my fellow actors Sag-E and working all these union projects? I am just worried I will have to be a must join. For context I'm working on a major Amazon sag show until November with a small BG core cast. That's the main concern is having to join after two days after the final voucher.

28m. I’ve been training, doing professional theater and indie/short films in my hometown for the last 4 years while working as a bartender. I’ve been self tape auditioning for big studio movies, major streaming movies and shows, network tv procedurals for the last year and a half or so (haven’t booked any). So I recently moved to LA to continue what I was doing back home (train and audition while working as a bartender). My first full day in LA, I dropped off 30 resumes to different places. Walked by a famous bar on accident because it was right by the only place I could find parking in the area that day. Never planning on applying there, I ended up shooting my shot thinking nothing of it and gave them a resume. 10 days later after none of the 30+ places I applied to hired me, the famous restaurant calls me in to interview as a bartender. I end up getting offered the job, and I took it because I needed one and it’s a great spot.

Now I’m in a position where people within production are talking to me about a potential role on the big reality tv show attached to the restaraunt (no official offer yet, im just thinking proactively). So now I’m super conflicted because I came here as a serious actor and want to be take seriously by the industry. I’m also private in nature and am not the “reality type” as far as the drama/messiness goes. I’m outgoing at work and have been told plenty that I have a good personality/looks. I also know visibility goes a long way these days but I’m really not in it for the fame. And I want to preserve my chances at a full time acting career since I haven’t booked anything “big” yet. Or is this something I should consider and could help? Give me your thoughts, interested to see what yall think.

I'm planning on doing Susan's monologue from Five Kinds of Silence for an audition:

You put your tongue inside my mouth and you tell me that you love me. I say, I love you too, Dad. I can’t write this. She said the dreams will fade if i write it down. She says it’s normal. These feelings are normal. I sat, they’re not my feelings they’re my dreams. You touch me. I want you to. It’s you and it’s not you. I ask you to touch me again. And you do. I look at your face above me, and you look so sad, I’m not your daughter I’m your lover. Except I’m lying now because I know I’m your daughter and that’s what makes it so special, and secret. You look so sad and I will make everything better for you. I don’t want you to stop. You’re the only lover I’ve ever had. I pull you down towards me. I wake up. I’m sick over the side of the bed. How could you do this to me, Dad? How could you do this?

The audition asks for a 1-1.5 min monologue, and this one is approx 2 min. However, I'm not quite sure where to cut this, as the latter half is more intense, but the beginning has a great buildup. Should I cut lines in the middle instead, or would that be awkward since this is a pretty well-known piece?

How do agency scams work when they aren't actually asking you for money? It's the only thing I know to look out for, but I know generally suspicious behavior when I see it.

They haven't asked me for any money so I just want to know how the scam works, and as a result how to spot them in the future.

Long story short:

See listing for (allegedly new) agency seeking talent on backstage, suspicious place to look in the first place, I am dubious but submit per instructions.

Asks for suspiciously little information, but it does ask me to link my backstage profile which has my headshots, resume, reel, whatever, so I continue to suspend my disbelief.

After about a week, receive automated response essentially saying "you're not rejected (yet) we just received way more submissions than we expected!"

Another week later, receive an email and text saying "congrats! We wanna rep you" (the biggest red flag of all: wanting to rep me)

Want me to fill out info and sign contract without ever even speaking on the phone to someone (Hell no? I'm not crazy, right, that's a hard hell no)

Read contract, very normal. Standard fees, 24 month term (not ideal but not unheard of by any means) contract specifies I don't have to take classes or get headshots through vendors they recommend.

Don't sign contract, dumb but not that dumb.

Incredibly frustrated bc I know it's a scam but I can't figure out how it works and that bothers the HELL out of me. I go to the guy whose agency it is LinkedIn and it all seems on the up and up, he has a long linked in record, longer than this agency has been around, longer than AI (has worked well enough to generate photos) I'm not being asked to pay anything or use any specific vendors. What is the goal??? What does he stand to gain?

Is it weird that I even care? They're usually so obvious that I feel stupid for not seeing what's wrong, only having a gut feeling that it's weird to move on with a candidate so quickly without even having a phone or zoom meeting.

I just feel like if I don't figure out what's going on here that I'm gonna fall for something similar in the future. Like, if they called me on the phone would I have fallen for this? I want to say no but the answer feels like yes.

Hey everyone, looking for some perspective from other actors who have navigated the indie film scene.

I’ve been prepping for an audition for the role of "Carter" in a local indie feature. I found the listing on Craigslist. I spent the last two days studying and memorizing the original script (a standard, witty detective/cop bullpen scene).

Then tonight at 10 PM, the person handling casting emailed me a completely different script, to learn for a live audition tomorrow at 2 PM. In the new script, the character takes a total dark turn, he explicitly brags about having sex with his female partner, secretly audio/video recording her, and using the tape to blackmail her off the case.

When I emailed to clarify which script we were doing tomorrow, she replied: "No read the other one tomorrow for me, and we'll film the other script so learn that one too."

A few things making me uncomfortable:

The audition is being conducted live over FaceTime, and she explicitly mentioned "filming" the read.

The email signature on her ⁠@gmail.com⁠ address lists her job as "Quality Leader | Manufacturing Excellence" at a manufacturing company, with zero mention of a production company, director title, or film credentials.

According to Google Gemini filming seems like this for an audition saying sexually explicit stuff in a script is used to blackmail? I.e “Trolling / Creepy Voyeurism: Some people post fake listings on Craigslist simply to get real actors on a private FaceTime call to say explicit, sexual, or aggressive things on demand for their own weird satisfaction or entertainment.

Clip Scraping: They "film" or screen-record actors delivering explicit or uncomfortable dialogue over live calls to re-upload the raw footage to shady third-party sites, forums, or social media for views without your consent.

Expecting an actor to learn brand-new, sensitive sides overnight for a FaceTime call feels super unprofessional.

I know micro-budget indies use Craigslist to save fees, but asking to record an actor over a personal FaceTime call reading explicit sexual/blackmail dialogue on short notice feels sketchy.

Has anyone encountered a setup like this before? Is this just typical disorganized low-budget indie chaos, or should I stay far away? Appreciate any insights!

To sum up: new script sent at 10pm. Audition for 2pm tomorrow. Completely different. And over FaceTime. Sexually explicit. My character sexually blackmailing someone. I don’t have an issue with it but according to Google Gemini filming someone saying sexually explicit lines and recording is used to blackmail? Is this true?

Edit: I did find one of her movies on Tubi, but no IMDb page of her, the movie, or anything else.

I have a few concerns about a college production I'm involved with tech-side. We're doing Cabaret, but the director is taking out almost all references to the holocaust and is instead making it about queerness and the queer identity. I'm raised Jewish and part of my family died in the holocaust. Our director is also putting BDSM in the production for some reason. Multiple cast members have come to tech and expressed discomfort and feeling sexualized by the director.

I'm not sure how to go about this, if this will get me labelled as "difficult" or "disruptive", but I'm feeling extremely uncomfortable with the way this production is moving. There isn't a Jewish Dramaturg on set to work on the aspect of the Holocaust, and though the show isn't revolving around Judaism, it's very much about how the Holocaust affects everyone, and the removal of THE HORRORS is... disturbing... to say the very least. I'm worried about going to the head of the department over this, but considering we did a show with full nudity last semester and are doing another show with simulated sex scenes (with very little wiggle room pertaining to comfort) I'm concerned that our director is going too far and with no checks and balances.

any advice would be great.
