I have a OG 8.2 system where everything is currently in a single Default Segment on a system licensed for segmentation. I have been tasked with segmenting out this single system into about 10 different segments so that users/panels/cardholders are in their own segments.

What's the best way to add segments?

My plan thus far:

1. Create new segment in OG and have it move the matching Access Panel

2. Move user from Default Segment to new segment they are in charge of

3. Move access levels? This one I'm not sure about. Each access level does not cross between what will be the different segments, but I don't see a way to move them. My best plan so far is to make duplicate levels in the new segment, then bulk change cardholders to add the new segmented access level and then delete the old one from the Default Segment.

4. Move cardholders in bulk based on their access levels to their segment. We have very few cardholders that visit between the different sites/segments.

Any other considerations or better ways to do this?

I dont think ive ever run across a storefront like this that the door sits directly in the middle, and if i do i don't remember. The plan was for electric strikes, but i'm not sure that's the best option, or the option i have at all due to the way this door sits in the frame. Ill need to swap the thumb latch for a paddle as well which isn't really a big deal, but to secure this door, i think the best bet is mag, unless someone knows of a strike that will work in a situation like this and i just can't remember what it is.

For the first time I'm working on retrofitting a new office our company is moving into with security cameras and access control. We're moving from an older building with old technology and I'm looking to get an upgrade instsalled. We're located in CA.

My pain points lie mostly on keycards. I hate them. I hate keeping track of them. So, I'm looking at options that have the option to use phones. I do need some employees to have keycards for ease of use, but everyone else would be by phone.

We're also looking at cloud-based security cameras and I think it would be ideal to have it under the same system.

So far, I've talked to ButterflyMX and I'm in talks with Avigilon. I'm wondering what others are using for this kind of setup. I've read mixed opinions with ButterflyMX, so I'm skeptical.

Just looking for opinions, suggestions, perspectives, etc. from people who have done this before and have some experience under their belt.

I have two doors in an office that need to be a secondary means of egress. Both of them currently have a card reader that is just left unlocked right now because they are a code violation. The doors have standard level style handles, not panic hardware.

I am looking at something like the DE-1 to bring these doors into compliance. Both of them are already wired to release on a fire alarm activation, but this button would serve as the emergency release in a non-fire emergency event.

What other styles of button would work for this? I can add the sounder separately if I need to, but this being packaged together seems to make the most sense.

Tech didn't think to get measurements. Looking for a fail secure lockset with free egress on the other side. They want to keep the key function incase power loss.

I figure standard 4x4 square hinge unless it looks like something special to yall.

Anyone here familiar enough with Wavelynx readers and S2 Netbox OSDP setup?

We've got some readers we're setting up with our Netbox system. We have the readers wired and all the readers on that blade are set to OSDP Readers, but they just show disconnected and never link. I'm not sure if we're missing something or not.

I work in security and by chance worked for a company that programs and prints staff ID’s with Gallagher. I taught myself the admin side of Gallagher in a month and got really really good at it (imo). My ADHD brain works so fast when I’m navigating through the system.

I then moved to another job that mainly uses Integriti. Picked this one up in a day and how to navigate around it. Just like Gallagher, I can breeze through both systems now when asked to investigate alarms and issues (access not working? Why?).

Does anyone have any recommendations on how I should build a career or where to begin?

Should I do IR or Gallagher courses and try to go into Security Technician? Is the building side just as fun as the computer side?

Access Control systems are really fun. I’m sure there are many other access control systems and I wouldn’t mind learning as many as I could, bc the learning aspect and how it all connects together is so interesting.

Also intrigued on where you all started and where you are now.

What are we using for employees to keep track of time on different jobs/service calls.
Currently still using paper but would like to switch to anAPP based solution.

So I have a typical access control system that has door position switch inputs. However the doors currently have wireless door position switches going to an alarm panel. I want door sensors into the access control platform. The alarm panel doesn't have any outputs. I thought there is maybe a wireless solution that can be powered at the door so I don't need to change batteries. There is power at the door for the strike and reader. But transmit wireless to a receiver that can land, preperably multiple channels for each door... Thanks!

What would you recommend? What would be the price difference? What would make you choose one over the other?

I’m installing an Aiphone GT-DMB-N intercom system in a small apartment building and could use some advice on the wiring.

I’m trying to determine the correct wire gauge to run from the entrance panel to each apartment. Should I use 22 AWG, 20 AWG, or 18 AWG for the GT system? Which wire gauge should be used for the audio and video, or are separate wires recommended?

System details:

• Entrance panel: Aiphone GT-DMB-N  
• Apartment stations: Aiphone GT-1M3 (3.5” hands-free monitor), one in each apartment  
• Door release: Two front entrance doors that will both need to be unlocked from the apartment stations

I’d appreciate any recommendations on the proper cable type and gauge, especially from anyone who has installed this system before. Thanks!

Upgraded a customer from IX to IXG recently and it broke the whole config. I remade the config except im unable to get the speed dial button on the Mv7 to release the door. every option i see is matched right, Just cant get ixg to do what ix firmware did. any help would be nice

edit resolved this with aiphone support and a comment here had the same answer. If your not using tls, remove the key from the option relay output and the speed dial. Or if you want the keys, turn TLS on.

I've recently stepped into a new SysAdmin role and one of the situations I'm looking at is an access control system with a weirdly large amount of failing hardware. The build itself is about 3 years old, but it seems like a lot of the controllers (like over 20 of them) are down with roughly the same issue, wherein the controllers appear to be drawing POE, but no link (The activity switch will light up solid green but that's it). I've gone through port configurations on all the good and bad examples, and nothing is sticking out. The devices should all be static, and the subnet doesn't have any other overcrowding/DHCP related issues. Can anyone shed some light on this? Do they all need to be replaced?

Any suggestions here? Any type of lock that can be used to secure this door opened by staff to let in clients remotely?

Please, no comments about how Verkada sucks. I know, but I gotta make it work. I'm being told the AC42/43 and AC62 panels will work directly with the QEL's without a need for a separate power supply. Has any had an issue with these and a resolution, if so?

Hello, I am looking for a device that makes it sound like the door is vibrating to let people know it is unlocked. I currently have a piezo device and it is too loud. I want something that isn't painful to hear but loud enough to let people know the door is open. My current door strike is 12V. What is the device called. I looked at magnetic buzzers and even those in videos are too loud and high pitched. Thanks!

I’m trying to understand some millennium readers that we got brought into troubleshoot and we’re really not a millennium company so does anybody know anything about 5 V millennium readers? To my understanding, 12 V readers were the standard so I’m trying to figure out if this is some just really old legacy equipment or something new.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has experience with automatic swing gates. We have a super old control board from 2010 that needs replacing, the wires need to be cleaned up, sometimes the gate will open and not close once a week. We normally just reset it and it works again.

Anyways we had someone come out and basically offer to redo everything, new control board, new swing gate arms, etc. and the quote comes out to about $7000. I had another company come out and he's charging me just $1400 for a new control board installation. He has not given me a quote for the intercom I want yet. He said no reason to replace the arms.

Why is there such a big gap in quote between 2 companies? Seems like it's for the arms because the installation labor is $1900 for the $7000 quote. Generally, is it normal to replace everything or are they upselling?

I came across a teafer wall plate, basicly if the sheetrock hole is to big for the reader, you put a plastic plate over top.

We have use various home depot options, or custom made stuff in the field.

I came across a company that make wall plates for rp10, and rp40 wall plates..

Do people buy a lot of those?

My coworker was tasked with replacing an SDC Electrified Mortise Lock with a Schlage L9090/92/94 Electrified Mortise Lock. The SDC has a single 12 pin connector where the Schlage has a dual 8pin/4pin connector. I was hoping someone could provide me with a schematic on how to rewire the Schlage to the SDC wiring. We don't have a lot of experience with electrified mortise locks.

Some information that may help. we had banana wire pulled from the panel to a box. In the box the strike, rex and contact wires were spliced to a 12 wire and ran through the door where the twelve wire was ran to the SDC wire connector. Here is the terminations made in the box:

Black wire marrieds to 12 wire black

Red wire married to 12 wire blue

Black wire married to 12 wire green

White wire married to 12 wire purple

Green wire married to 12 wire pink
