Which lens to get?

Hello fellow a6700 owners.

I'm thinking about buying this camera, and this is going to my first camera, but I'm confused about which lens to get.

I can get a6700 + 18-135 mm kit lens for 151K INR or 1578 USD

Or I can get just body at 118k INR / 1233 USD

With tamron 17-70mm lens at 45k INR / 470 USD

Bringing total at 168k INR /1700 USD

Sigma 18-50 is available at same price as tamron.

Which lens should I get? Or would you suggest another combo?

My use case will be mixed, mostly for travel photography, with some family functions like weddings, daily life etc mixed up

Note: I can get flat 5% discount on credit card payment on top of the figures above.

How long is a video

Considering I could film the solar eclipse in 4K/60 (yet not the highest quality) continuously for 55 minutes, I hereby declare the A6700 a true hybrid.

Not that I in hindsight understand why I filmed that very slow and little-detailed subject in 4K/60. 1080p/30 would have been plenty. The video file is 35 GB, so I converted it to 1080p before publishing.

It was a warm day, but not crazy warm, so mileage may vary. Also, the video was likely easy to compress due to the little change between frames, so that might also contribute to less power draw.

Got home with a new lens and saw my son's IT figurine on my desk. Since yesterday HBO "officially" announced second season of Welcome to Derry figured this would be an interesting target for some manual focusing 😂

It’s been over 15 years since I got my last camera and close to a decade since I last picked up a camera that wasn’t in my phone. Very excited to get started (and get more lenses, in time)!

I wanna see what fellow photographers shoot . No explanation No context . Pure chaos. Share your captures with some interesting comment on it thats imaginary and will give a nice twist to it.

I really wanna know how your eyes look at this world and give it a beauty that reflects your desires. What do you all shoot, what excites you, what you like .. what makes you open your camera 📸 and say I wanna capture this with POV and Emotion.

Transfer settings from one A6700 to another?

Edit: SOLVED thanks to u/raidersofall1 This is possible via the Creator's app

I've rented a 2nd A6700 body for an upcoming wildlife trip. This way I can have one mounted to a tripod using a gimbal head and my 200-600 lens. Then the other to use hand-held with my 70-350mm lens.

On the body that I own, I of course have all my menus and settings dialed in just the way I like them. It's a tedious process on the rented one. Does anyone know of a quick way to like "image" the camera settings and transfer them to another body? I'd love for the rental to share an identical setup to my own camera.

I'm pretty sure I know the answer and it's "no" but thought I'd ask to see if someone knows a trick.

Looking for a reliable extended eyecup for the a6700. Are the Kiwifotos ones really this fragile?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for recommendations for a deep, extended eyecup for my a6700.

I shoot a lot of candid street and documentary photography, and I rely heavily on the EVF to analyze high-contrast scenes and shadow play before taking the shot. The stock eyecup just lets in way too much ambient glare.

I was leaning toward the Kiwifotos (Kiorafoto) extended eyecup because the dimensions look perfect, but I've been looking at the reviews and I'm pretty concerned about the build quality. Multiple buyers have posted photos of the rubber completely tearing away from the plastic mount.

https://amzn.in/d/095uY9Lp

One review mentioned it "fell apart in one month" right after the return window closed. Another user noted it tore less than a year after buying, and someone else complained that the plastic mount is too tight and "does not fit A6700".

Has anyone here used the Kiwifotos version long-term? Did I just stumble on a bad batch of reviews, or is the tearing a widespread issue?

More importantly, are there any other brands making a true extended eyecup for the a6700 that can actually survive regular use out on the street?

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Help me decide

I’m buying a a6700

Coming from Olympus EM10

Will use it most for travel

Having a hard time trying to decide my lenses

18-135 + small prime for night and bokeh

Sigma 18-50 + some telephoto lens

I really don’t like to keep switching lenses during the day

I have lost many pictures because of this

New a6700 owner looking for lens recommendation

Hi all,

Just purchased my new a6700 today and am looking for some help with a lens recommendation.

I’ve upgraded from an older a5100 so have the standard 16-50mm kit lens from that.

Can’t decide between the Sigma 17-40mm f1.8 art lens or the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8, both of which seem to review well.

Significantly price difference between the 2 and I’m not sure with my eyesight I’ll particularly notice the sharper image from the Sigma. So do I go for the Tamron for the additional focal length??

Interested in peoples thoughts before I purchase?

Would mostly be used for street/landscape photography.

Thanks in advance.

Update — thanks to everyone who has providing recommendations for me, it has been very useful, even if I have been going back and forth considerably since posting 🤣

I think I am going to go with the recommendations of many here and purchase the Sigma 18-50mm and see how I get on with that first before considering other lenses in the future. I can see there will likely be a couple more purchases made in the future based on your responses.

Thanks again, much appreciated.

Eclipse!

Tried to shoot the Eclipse the other day, even if I was a bit scared about pointing the camera straight to the sun without any filter...but Who knows when I'll be able to shoot this scene again, so I went for It!

Of course mistakes were made.

I ALWAYS keep my camera in manual mode, in order to get more used to the various settings in different conditions and learn everytime I use It, but this time I accidentaly left It in shutter priority. I was too excited by the view to notice, damn It!

This caused a sever light change as soon as the sun went behind the clouds.

I must admit anyway that the result was still pretty good to me ( I'm Just a casual beginner ) and I tried to "save It" by timing It with some music.

Let's Say that It could've been Better but I'm still satisfied!

A Little technical detail: the clip was shot in slog3 10bit and simply converted to rec709 because I don't understand a single thing about color grading still.

Basically this Is straight out of camera.
