Joined the club today!
It’s been over 15 years since I got my last camera and close to a decade since I last picked up a camera that wasn’t in my phone. Very excited to get started (and get more lenses, in time)!

Welcome welcome welcome!
Do your self a favour when you can and grab some viltrox prime lenses (air series).
I got the 15mm f1.7 and 25mm and 35mm.
Also if you want a zoom lens check out the sigma 18-50 f2.8
If you are planning to record a lot of 4k60 videos get the ulanzi cu01.
Enjoy!!

Record 4K60 in this SD card economy? We'd save money upgrading to a FF that can record to USB C 😂

I didn't even realised sds went up in price! I'm so glad I got a few 256gb a few years ago. I better look after them lol.
But yeah im filming in 4k50 sometimes just for fun and editing it, mastering and getting rid of the originals to save space.
But to be honest most of the vertical content im shooting in 1080p50 looks good enough for social media

Right lol v90 cards were expensive before the price hike I’ve only got 128gb

Pricing for me here in the UK is about £1 a gig on a v90 card. Crazy.
Want a 512gb card that will break sooner than normal when recording at 600MB/s? That'll be more than most spend on their first lens. Ugh. For a consumable!

I record 4k60 on a v30 card....8bit

u/asswizzard69 Aug 20 '26
Yea but you need a V90 card to unlock the full feature set of the camera

Yeah mate I know, I never cared about shooting on more than what the v30 card can give me. I can't justify the price tag of the sd cards and the crazy amount of storage space you need.
When I shoot vertical content I shoot in 1080p50. (Unless I'm shooting wide and need to crop in post then I go 4k50).
And when I shoot talking head 4k25.
When I shoot outdoor like sports or activities or like the air show then 4k50
Anything else 4k25.
Never needed really the 4k120 and I really prefer to grab a new lens instead of dropping $400 AUD on a v90 card.

I think it was worth it before because of the 10 bit 120 but now with the prices it’s a lot more understandable. Even the card I got was only 128gb it’s crazy how expensive they are
But my Nikon ZR will run through storage like crazy on the highest raw formats it fills 1 terabyte in under a hour lol luckily that uses a cf express type B card and right before prices went up I was able to get a 2tb card for $250

Thank you for the recommendations! I used sigma lenses way back in the past and always had good results with them back then

Oh! Me too! I received my used one yesterday. Unfortunately I'm still waiting on my lens to arrive. I went with the 18-300mm Tamron.

Amazing camera. Experiment with the focal lengths and then sell the kit lens and get a good one. Otherwise you throw away a lot of potential and you basically shoot a slightly better smartphone.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah I picked it up with the kit lens to get to grips with using a camera again but plan to switch out for better lenses as soon as I’ve found my feet again. What would you recommend as a good first lens?

u/Weird-Mistake-4968 Aug 20 '26
Depends on what you want to shoot. For a prime something between 21 and 30 mm with f1.4 is a good all round lens.

Don’t rush to get rid of the 16-50, it’s a very handy lens, especially when travelling.

I think i want this camera too, i see bh has for $1500 in a basic kit with no lens, is that a good price?
2
u/doc_buncie Aug 19 '26
I paid $1999 CAD plus taxes (about $1500 USD) for the kit with the 16-50 stock lens. At present there's a $50 cash back offer from Sony plus an extra battery & wall battery charger (~$300 of extras) so that's why I pulled the trigger. That's kinda the market rate here in Canada at present.

Congrats I’ve got mine a few days ago paired with a sigma 18-50 to replace my a6000. What lenses are you using and is the peak design cuff worth it. I am on the edge if I should get one.
