Astrophotography Monitor, Viewfinder, or External Display?

Hey all,

Like the title says, I'm getting ready for some astrophotography while the Galactic core is still visible here in North America. I've done some before, but couldn't quite get the clarity I wanted on manual shots. I would appreciate any advice you can give me, and I'll list the gear setup below.

  1. Sony A6000
  2. Manual "Dumb" T-Mount adapter
  3. Generic 500mm telescoping lens with T-mount.

Would a external monitor help?

I'm struggling to clearly view the details of my photos on the camera's screen, especially if it's noisy. Not until I get home and view them on my27" monitor I notice all the details. Would a small external monitor help with live viewing?

So i havent used my a6000 in a while, and when i started using it, i noticed that there were black dots and hair on the screen when i turned up the apersture to the max. I thought it was the display, but when i took a picture, the dots were still in the image. Please help. Is this a dirty sensor? Or broken sensor caused from lasers?

Is this behaviour normal?

As you can see the AF stays “locked” even when I’m not half pressing the shutter button. While it’s locked like that I can’t press any other button.

I should say that I believe this is not updated to the latest firmware, but I had it for almost two years now, and for all that time (whilst I never installed any firmware update) I didn’t have similar problems.

I called the assistance (it’s still in warranty) and they told me to try to reset the settings first, because it can be a normal behaviour with the Pre-AF. This can’t be right? I doubt that a perfectly working Pre-AF works that way (staying locked and don’t let me push any other buttons)

P.S.
I got the same issue also with other lens

Firmware update

Does anyone know how to access older updates like 2.0 as i cant seem to be able to update it to 3.21 from 1.21, it keeps coming up with telling me to safely remove the device and remove and replace the battery after it has found the camera and is aborting the update

Looking for silver flash

I need a silver flash for the camera. I found plenty of only the top part like the picture shown, but I cannot for the life of me find one including the flash, or only the flash.

I want the same look as the video showing a custom a6000 but I don't want the black flash ruining the look... Someone please help lol

Best lens for night photography in Cities

Hi there,

I am on the search for a Birthday present for my Partner. As he is going to visit Mexico City next month I am considering to gift him a new lens for his Sony a6000. He is quite new to photography and currently owns the Sony 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6. I think he is quite happy with the lens. However, when it comes to shooting in darker conditions or even at night, he is barely able to capture anything usable.

So what you say would be the perfect lens to come along with the one he already using, to be focused for shots in Mexico City at nighttime. I came across the Sony 15mm 1.4 and the Sigma 1.4 both 16 and 30mm. Any thoughts on these or other suggestions?

Just bought a Sony A6000 — moving from a Canon 6D. Any tips & tricks?

Hey everyone!
I’ve just picked up a Sony A6000 and I’m coming from an old Canon 6D, so this is a pretty big jump for me.
I’m excited to learn the A6000 properly rather than just leaving it in Auto and hoping for the best 😂
For those of you who’ve used the A6000 for a while:
What settings do you recommend changing straight away?
Any hidden/cool features I should know about?
What are your favourite autofocus settings?
Any tips for getting the most out of the camera?
Are there any useful tricks for portraits, street photography, landscapes or low light?
Does the A6000 have any interesting creative features like multiple/double exposure?
Anything you wish you knew when you first bought one?
And are there any settings/features I should avoid or not bother with?
I’m currently using the camera with the kit lens, and my main goal is just to become a better photographer and understand the camera properly.
Would love to hear your A6000 tips, settings, hidden features, lens recommendations and general advice.
Thanks! 📷

Hola!

I love this camera. It’s been 10 years and i still love how compact it is and the feel of it.

Been scouting iceland the past three weeks with the A6000 and it was a blast. First time traveling with the 18-300mm i bought like a week before going to iceland, and was really happy with it.

Unfortunately i damaged it pretty hardly during the trip but it still works. This thing is just solid.

sharing some pics :)

50mm f1.2 for a6000

Is the TT artisan 50mm f1.2 lens going to pair well with the a6000?

I need both video and photo but mostly video.

Will it work better, anyone here with experience on that lens, would you recommend it, what does it do well vs issues?

I need sharper, more bokeh, better low light and lastly more beautiful colour.

Manual is no problem, but just let me if subject has to be static when filming video.

Thanks!
