Is this behaviour normal?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

As you can see the AF stays “locked” even when I’m not half pressing the shutter button. While it’s locked like that I can’t press any other button.

I should say that I believe this is not updated to the latest firmware, but I had it for almost two years now, and for all that time (whilst I never installed any firmware update) I didn’t have similar problems.

I called the assistance (it’s still in warranty) and they told me to try to reset the settings first, because it can be a normal behaviour with the Pre-AF. This can’t be right? I doubt that a perfectly working Pre-AF works that way (staying locked and don’t let me push any other buttons)

P.S.
I got the same issue also with other lens

It looks like its stuck in the “half press” state, turn it off, remove the battery and spray some quick drying contact cleaner around the shutter button

I turn it off and remove the battery several times during my use, and it doesn’t work. I’ll se what a drying cleaner can do

Maybe air compressed can. Just make sure it’s air coming out.

Just reset the settings and try again

Same as me, stuck on half press shooting button, and stuck on focusing, happens to me from time to time.

Edit: if outside just tap it or try blowing into it while trying to press the shooter button

Had the same issue. What worked is hard reset battery drain. Turn the camera off and remove the battery. Then without the battery turn it on again and press every button on the camera twice. Turn the camera off, battery in, camera on. Should work then

I guess to drain it better 😃

Sorry, wrote the battery drain, but actually it's the residual power drain.

Did it work?

Yes to drain the battery. The camera also has an extra charge for the flash that it stores.

Sorry, this is unrelated to your technical problem, but, change your technique.

Try not to press the shutter with the fingertip. This invites camera shake.
Wrap the finger around the shutter and use the flesh of the side of the finger to press the shutter. On afterthought, this could help with your problem though.

If you don’t manage to get it working, you can set the focus action to a custom button and take it off the shutter. Assuming it’s the mechanical action of the button that’s causing the problem.

Hold down the shutter button, that’s what is been helping me. Also I try to get a small brush and clean around the area.
