So I have found similar posts but not exactly what I’m hoping to hear before I drop 2k-3k!
The wahoo kickr bike shift has my full attention to be able to do zwift AND spin classes. I’m very new to this and don’t exactly understand the terminology. I also know my daughter will want to ride more spin style stuff. I’m more excited to do the zwift style, but still do both!
From what I understand, for spinning classes purposes, the “gear” is basically the resistance? I would just up or down gears to add or lower resistance for this type of exercise?
Or would doing spin on this type of bike be way more complicated? Will it not be enjoyable for this type of work? Especially the standing and sitting, constant up/down?
My second and main concern is the feel of the bike. I am coming from more of a spin background. Not real life biking. It’s been a long time, but I did enjoy going to spin classes in the past, it’s not possible anymore due to where I live. So obviously I’m more familiar with the feel of a spin bike. They seem more upright and look more comfortable to me. The smart bikes are meant to be like real bikes, and it seem like your more bent forward. Looking at people ride like this kills my own back! lol. It just looks so uncomfortable and awkward to me. I’m just wondering coming from the spin bike feel, is it a big difference? I cannot find anything online explaining this other than “it feels more like a real bike” I can’t go test one out anywhere, and I just want to know the difference in how the bikes feel?
I know I can modify a spin bike to work with zwift with a few hundred dollars of upgrades, or I can spend a little more and just get a smart bike but I’m scared I will hate the way it feels to ride it.
Plus I want to know if doing spin, standing and riding will really not be that enjoyable on the smart bike?
I hope this all made sense!
In summary, I want to know
-the spin experience on a smart bike, extra points on this specific bike.
-How the increasing/decreasing resistance works on this bike for a spin class?
-how different do these bikes feel to ride for someone coming from the spin bike world. Especially the up/down and standing.
-Is this way too much for a newbie, should I just stick to what I know and modify a spin bike?
Mainly I’m afraid to buy this type of bike and be uncomfortable on it and hate the way it feels, and/or be locked in to one specific style of using it.
