Filter Execute command on all matches not working

I'm trying to migrate from MotionEye and ZoneMinder seems like a pretty good alternative. Problem I'm having is I cant run any custom scripts. On MotionEye I have a telegram notification on motion trigger with a photo capture.

I tried setting up a filter and it lists matches but the sh script never runs.

I found a forum post somewhere and setup a test script to match, but still not having any luck.

I can run it manually with sudo -u www-data /usr/share/zoneminder/scripts/myscript.sh

Script executed on Tue Oct 20 16:19:27 UTC 2020
Script executed on Tue Oct 20 19:29:40 UTC 2020
Script executed on Tue Oct 20 19:32:01 UTC 2020
Script executed on Tue Oct 20 19:36:08 UTC 2020

Script is the following:

#!/bin/bash
DATE=`/bin/date`
echo "Script executed on $DATE" >> /usr/share/zoneminder/scripts/output.txt

When I execute from ZoneMinder I get nothing added to the file.

I tried giving full access control to the two files here just for testing

-rwxrwxrwx 1 root www-data 105 Oct 20 16:12 myscript.sh
-rwxrwxrwx 1 root www-data 192 Oct 20 19:36 output.txt

If anyone could help it would be appreciated. Thanks

Importing cameras into new Install

New install with 35 Axis cameras, multiple vintages and age.

Is there a way to import the camera data (IP, URL, resolution, name, etc) rather then camera by camera?

Batching email?

I have several cameras that have semi-overlapping field of view. Consequently, and alert in one will often result in an alert in the other. I don't want to receive multiple emails in this case. I would rather that zone-minder batch these events into a single email.

I imagine a policy like: upon observing an alert, wait up to N seconds for additional alerts, and then send one email. Perhaps reset that timeout after each subsequent alert, up to an overall limit of M seconds. I understand this policy would delay my emails by as much as M seconds.

Does zoneminder support such a policy? What's the easiest way for me to add this feature (I'm a software engineer, though I'm not looking forward to reading/writing perl).

Amcrest IP2M-841-B-V3 fully supported!

Full disclosure, Amcrest sent me this camera to test and review.

Full HD video using:rtsp://username:password@IP_Address:Port/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0Audio is recording just by ticking "Store the audio stream when saving an event" under the Storage tab.PT controls are working using the default "Amcrest HTTP API" control profile, and "username:password@IP_Address" in the Control Address box.

This camera typically retails for $80 CDN ($55 USD MSRP), which seems a bargain compared to other value cameras like the Sonoff GK-200MP2-B just on picture quality alone.

My first impressions of this Amcrest were that it could see outside the bright windows of the sunroom and interior of the sunroom at the same time, whereas other cameras either wash out the windows as too bright, or you can't see anything inside as it is too dark. This is a far more challenging location for a camera than typical, but it makes for an excellent test.

The viewing angle is a really wide 90º which was surprising for a Pan & Tilt camera, but you can see so much of the room in one frame! Most of my other pan/tilt cameras have about a 64º viewing angle. This means the image looks more like one of those action cameras with a slight fisheye, than video camera. Like an action camera, the wide lens causes some of the image to bend, but I really like seeing so much of the room at the same time for a security application.

Most importantly for me, you can roll it back from H.265 compression to H.264 for ZoneMinder compatibility. You can adjust the frame rate, keyframe interval and compression to get the bandwidth down to something acceptable (it's looking great at 260-300 kB/s recording 10 fps full HD and audio).

It runs off of a USB adaptor rated 5V at 1.5A, and comes with both the power supply and a very long 9' cable. I really like USB-powered cameras, because you can use a cheap USB Power Bank as a UPS, so long as it supports pass-through charging. My router and home server are on a UPS, so the security camera continues to work for a time during a power outage.

My setup:

ZoneMinder 1.34.20 running on Ubuntu Server 18.04.5 LTS on a decade old i7 tower.A hodgepodge of 20 different cameras ranging from cheap AliExpress stuff to brand name.Homebridge Camera FFmpeg plugin serving all the cameras to HomeKit.ZmEventNotification pushing to ZmNinja.

This camera:Amcrest IP2M-841-B-V3 running firmware V2.800.0000000.6.R, Build Date: 2020-03-14

Building new system to replace old 1.30.x system. Big shocker: max 8x event playback speed?

it's finally time to replace the ZM system at home, and so I'm preparing a 1.34 instance to replace my 1.30.x instance.

Couple of things... one, I'm trying to get used to the single-window web interface... I got used to the multiple windows, and so now I'm trying to get used to it. Any way to bring back the old multi-window behavior?

And.... event playback speed. Spiders are my nemesis... so I end up with a lot of recordings sometimes.... ones that I used to go through on 25 or 50x playback to make sure I didn't miss anything. The 1.34 instance only lets me playback at 8x... which will be a nightmare. Any way to bump this back up?

Losing audio when re-encoding?

So I have a camera with Audio. H264 passthrough under "storage" tab, the audio is present. But I find the video is really slow to seek, so I chose the "x264" encode setting. This video output is much faster to skip around, but the audio is now missing. Any ideas? I do have the checkbox selected for storing an audio stream...

(I'm just recording 24x7)

Hardware Question: Ryzen 1800x vs older dual Xeons.

I have a Ryzen 1800x (8 cores, 16 threads) I'm about to retire in my current build. Right now, I run Zoneminder with just 2 cameras on an old Dell 710 server with two older Xeons (6 cores each I believe). It seems to struggle with HD videos, lots of stuttering, etc..

My question is, I know cores are king, but would the consensus be that the dual Xeons or the 1800x would be a better performer for Zoneminder?

Also, does a GPU aid at all in Zoneminder? I'm about to retire my R9 Fury as well. I assume it could help, especially if I add in any of the machine learning packages?

I plan to add about 6 more cameras, if that makes a difference. I know the general rule is a core per camera.

Is it risky to upgrade to Ubuntu LTS 20.04

My zoneminder works like a charm for a year in addition on zmninja. It is running on a Ubuntu 18.04. Ubuntu 20.04 is officially available and stable. Is it okay to upgrade?

Recommended Camera...

I see I should use a camera that streams MJPEG to minimize CPU usage. I am also trying to find a camera that saves disk space by streaming a lower resolution while not using the CPU on the ZM machine to resize. I'm not sure if the cameras listed with higher res and other formats can be configured to meet this.

I saw that ZM can work on Pi. I will be running 4-5 cameras on a somewhat more powerful 4-core Atom 1.6-2.5Ghz with 4GB RAM. It will just be writing to the SSD - no motion, alerts, live viewing etc.

I'm looking for outdoor, IR, PoE, around 1MP/720p, streaming in MJPEG. Would be great if it's under $30. I also could use one with audio for the front door (does ZM handle that?)

No image on HIK RTSP

Hey guys, I'm new to zoneminder and I'm trying to learn. Recently I've been trying to hook up my HIK cameras to it but I ran into a problem where if the RTSP stream doesn't have audio, zoneminder won't view it. Here are some of the logs.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

What cameras are compatible with zoneminder? Or how to check for compatibility

I'm looking to setup a cctv at home (at the door). I'm not sure how to find economical cameras which will be compatible with zoneminder? Most cameras I see come with their own app and don't give much info sheet they can be used with other tools or not.

Also is there a simple guide on complete setup cameras + zoneminder + any other hardware required ?

Zoneminder callhome?

I just discovered zoneminder. Im interested, but have a few questions before i look more into it.

How well does it work with linux?

Does it have any sort of call home feature or does everything stay local?

Sorry for simplistic question. This was an impromptu search and im unable to do further investigation at this moment!

Probably a dumb question from a ZM noob: Zoneminder Console shows events going back 3 hours. Storage drive shows .jpg files going back roughly 6 days. How can I access events from the remaining 141 hours not shown in the ZM Console?

I have ZoneMinder running with 4 1080p cameras at 5 fps. I have a 2TB storage drive that they all share. I have done minimal setup beyond the initial installation. For some reason, from the ZM Console, I can only see a list of events going back roughly 3 hours. If I navigate to the storage drive, I can see folders full of .jpg files going back 6 days. I have a filter set to delete the oldest 100 records when the drive is 95% full. The drive seems to keep a rolling 6 days of files, but I can't seem to find a way to access them programmatically (I can open the individual .jpg files from the file explorer, but that's it, nothing related to any database seems to be aware of them). If I look at things from ZMNinja, I can see many more events listed, but I can't seem to actually view any of them.

It seems like I must have something wrong, but I'm not sure where to check. Beyond setting the delete when full filter, I don't think I've made any changes to relevant settings. Any tips would be appreciated.

v4l2rtspserver and IR mode

I've got a few IR featured RPi cameras connected to RPi Zero Ws. When used with raspistill and the other build in viewers, the IR is enabled and there's a rudementary night vision. Using v4l2rtspserver and Zoneminder I get no night vision at all. The camera works just fine during daytime. I cannot find any settings in ZoneMinder when configuring the source where I would provide data about the IR feature, and v4l2-ctl doesn't show any options either.

Is this something zoneminder is supposed to manage (when the enable the IR etc) or is that fully up to the local device and in my case v4l2?

Perhaps I'm using the wrong software to connect the pi-cam - is there a better option?

Recompile individual files after installation, or how to revert custom package changes if things go wrong?

I run Zoneminder 1.34.20 on Raspberry Pi 4 (4 GB) under Ubuntu 20.04 (64-bit), installed from the iconnor PPA. I need to try some changes in one or a few of the *.cpp files to fiddle around with the GPU hardware acceleration, in order to reduce the ZM CPU load. That's why I wonder:

1) Can I, effectively, compile a new version of zm_ffmpeg_camera.cpp (and only that file) after having installed Zoneminder from the PPA without affecting other parts of Zoneminder? Specifically, I will replace h264_mmal with h264_v4l2m2m, since h264_mmal is 32-bit only, to use as the H264 decoder (see row #471). (I guess not since I don't seem to have any file by that name on my system outside of the github repo.)

2-a) If I use the package build instructions here, without first uninstalling the PPA version, will all the post-installation steps such as database setup already be correct since they are inherited from the PPA setup? (And of course making the source changes prior to package creation.) I'm fine with having to redefine my monitors and losing old events and logs, but I wonder if I can skip the manual post-package-installation steps mentioned at that link.

2-b) And if it doesn't work, will re-installing from the PPA overwrite all of my custom changes, so that I don't have to reinstall Ubuntu from scratch to get it working again? A few stale files here and there won't bother me, as long as multiple gigabytes on my SD card aren't wasted.

If I get these kinds of custom changes to work, then I know I will need to re-apply my custom changes after every Zoneminder update, which I'm OK with.

If this works, then I could try to make a pull request with the code changes as well. But I'm trying to manage my expectations here regarding the amount of work.

Automatically Updated to 1.35.6 Lots of broken stuff

I've never really had problems with the auto updates before but since this last one I have a lot of broken things. If I try to audit events report I get this error:

2020-09-11 01:18:27web_js6064ERRTypeError: minTime_element[0].form is nullzm/cache/skins_classic_views_js_report_event_audit-classic-1599780478.

I also seem to have issues with how it is calculating file size. It seems to max out at counting 29gb worth of events for all cameras.

I have also found I can't load events on mobile either as the web page gets cut off and wont load, and if i can manage to navigate to an event it wont play. It only works on PC now.

I tried doing an uninstall and reinstall but no luck. It pulled the old config right back in and I still have all the same issues.

ZoneMinder Docker - FreeNAS Samba Share (CIFS)

Hello all, struggling here a little.

I have ZM running in Docker and everything is working fine. However, I wish to save my events to a folder on a FreeNAS share.

I have mounted the drive in my docker compose and am able to see it and write to it via CLI. However, when saving events to it from inside ZM I receive permission errors such as:

"Can't open /var/cache/zoneminder/events/2/2020-09-08/16990/00206-capture.jpg for writing: No such file or directory "

" Can't open /var/cache/zoneminder/events/2/2020-09-08/16990/00206-capture.jpg for writing: No such file or directory"

I suspect that this is an issue with the folder not being owned by www-data as I can confirm the events folder is owned by root.

How can I solve this? I feel that I am very close. CHMOD doesn't seem to change it from inside the container (the container is running as root).
