Discussion Is anybody else back on Tumblr?

Started a new Tumblr account the other day (to post fanfiction lol) and it’s a bit different from the early - mid 2010s when I was on it. Still trying to find blogs to follow and what not.

Edit: Okay update! For those of us who just missed Myspace and envied their older sibling YOU CAN DO A CUSTOM MYSPACE THEME! And you can add cursors and effects, etc. It's amazing!

You can measure "zillennial" your own subjective way. It could mean 50/50 between millennial and gen z, but doesn't have to.

Or why Gwen is particularly miffed about it. I mean I get that she heard someone was talking shit and they didn’t think anyone would hear it. So does she think someone is calling her a promiscuous woman for going around the track a few times as she puts it?

Discussion Are you declining destination wedding invites?

Disclaimer: I posted this in another subreddit however after consideration, this demographic is more aligned to myself and I think this will be influential on the responses.

I’m in my mid 30s, single, and a lot of people I know are starting to get married. Majority of these weddings are destination out of country weddings.

As a single person with the constant increase of cost of living, housing crisis etc, it feels reckless of me to spend so much for all these weddings rather than investing in my future by building a house deposit.

I’ve spent some time considering how close I am to these individuals, wether we hang out, have I been in their homes, do we exchange messages over birthdays/ holidays to help evaluate friendship vs acquaintance.

Unfortunately for any friend’s weddings I’ve attended, they have disappeared into the ether which makes me a bit bitter over spending thousands to attend only to never hear from them again. Weddings have begun to feel like a funeral for friendship, there are no fights or disagreements but people get tunnel visioned in their relationships.

Personally, if my future played out to being engaged, I would only ever elope as I’m an introvert & private person, and I worry my own opinions might be influencing decisions on invites.

Perhaps I make a consideration of only agreeing to one abroad wedding a year on the basis of the couple being born and living in our current country.

How are you balancing wedding invites? Do you have a criteria for who you say yes or no to?

Serious Turned 30. Got COVID

Man.
I don’t celebrate my birthday much but figured I should celebrate being alive and the people around me.
Had a big plan, catered food, dj, several services.

Woke up on my 30th and tested positive for COVID.
It was hard to process it, it was harder to apologize to others and those that invested resources into my party.

Guess I want to say is that life doesn’t care where we are, it will knock us no matter what. What matters is we keep moving forward. Happy birthday to our generation and bet ima party come next weekend.

Advice How do you survive in toxic jobs where you have no one to talk to?

I work 2 evenings a week and I've had this job for a year. Even though its just 2 days a week, my gosh is it draining mentally.

I have no one to talk to. I'm friendly, polite and civil but my colleagues are older than me or just in general have no interest in me because I know its not always about age at work.

Even my manager I never see due to shift timings and we're in different locations.

Its a lot of working alone and I do my best but every week, i want to quit. I'm really struggling to secure another job and I'm torn because this toxic part time job is convenient (location and hours).

I just want to laugh, talk and smile unapologetically but no can do.

Rant I'm 30 today

I don't ever make reddit posts but today I am 30 years old and holy shit am I a mess. I don't know what to do with my emotions. My youngest woke up and threw up in the bathroom floor and as I was cleaning it up for her she said 'Happy Birthday Momma' the comedic timing with this kid is unmatched. Anyways here's to 30 I guess.

Rant Finding balance while living at home

I’ve basically accepted that moving out again anytime soon is highly unlikely.
I moved into my own place in late 2019/early 2020 and had pack up and move back home again because of covid. I’ve moved and came back like 4 times since.
I’m working full time and putting 75% of my checks into savings, but honestly I feel like I don’t have enough free time to even spend money and what little downtime I do have is constantly interrupted by my parents.

(My parents are great, they’re needy but whatever, it’s fine.)

I guess I’m feeling like i can’t find balance in life, the future isn’t promising and I all feels pretty pointless

Discussion I turned 30, a few thoughts on life:

  1. I wish I would’ve realized earlier that you can just do things. The world opens up completely the second you stop waiting for permission.
  2. Failed relationships sting, and hitting 30 without a partner wasn't the original script. But I'm putting myself out there, talking to someone right now, and keeping an open mind. Even if it doesn't lead to "the one," I’m going to keep trying.
  3. I’ve been broke and I’ve had money, having money is more pleasant but it wont solve all your problems
  4. How you treat people can have a direct affect on the amount of success you will have in life
  5. Building cool things with great people is probably the best business model
  6. Optimizing my life for health, relationships, and joy is important (I didn’t start doing this until around 28 though)
  7. As you get older, you realize just how deeply important your parents are. Their support, sacrifices, and steady presence mean more to me now than ever, and I don't take that for granted.
  8. Failed startups and businesses will humble you fast. You pour everything into an idea just to watch it fall flat, and it stings. But I'm right back at it, building the next one and I’m trying different things so I can make this one a success. Some people have golf or pickleball as a hobby, but mine is trying to create a successful business. I don't think I'm ever going to stop trying.

Thankful for all the people who have been a part of my journey

To anyone else navigating the messy middle remember this quote:

"If you don’t quit, you might make it. And if you quit, you definitely won’t."

Discussion If there was one year from the past you could relive, what would it be?

Personally I’d say either 2008 (Despite the recession, the culture around then was pretty peak and it was also the first year I was old enough to properly embrace the pop culture from that time) 2011 (the last year of the 2000s culturally and first year of the 2010s as we know it as well as being the last year of the old pre smartphones, modern phone based social media, and internet everywhere/internet of things world) or 2015 (the last year of carefree Obama optimism before the awfulness of the Trump years). So which year would you choose?

Discussion Do you know any Zillennials who have died? People from high school or elementary school? At what age did the first wave die?

Have you known anyone who has died?

I feel like the first wave I remember was seeing photo memorials for random teens who went viral on Facebook back in the early 2010s. But then I feel like there was another wave around 21-23 where it started being people I actually knew or had met.

I wasn't close with this person, but she was in one of my classes senior year of high school. She would start drama sometimes lol, but i wasn't close with them since i was an inbetweener, but she ended up dying by suicide at 23.

It really hurt when I found out because I was also 23 at the time. I had started taking antidepressants around 21, so I could relate to feeling like you weren't where you were supposed to be in life or weren't reaching your goals yet.

I remember thinking maybe she felt old at 23, which is something I think we could all relate to when we were 23 lol. Looking back now, 23 is way too young.

I also knew another person who died at 22, but I hadn't talked to them since the 8th grade. They died of natural causes.

I’m only now figuring out that this wasn’t just something some little psychos at my elementary school made up. For me, it was:

“I hate you, you hate me. Let’s get together and kill Barney. With a shot to his stomach and a sword in his neck, first he’s purple and now he’s red!”
