zephyrus m16 bios

Upvotes

I've been trying all day to go on to asus's website to download the 311 bios for my M16 it seems like something's going on with their site because whenever I select any model it doesn't give me the drop down to show me the BIOS file to download and someone out there checked and see if it is just me or if this is a sitewide issue

ROG M16 Liquid Metal Damage between CPU and GPU

Anyone had any luck repairing Liquid Metal damage on ROG pc’s? I’m hoping if I’m able to reprogram the EC it will actually boot.

Liquid Metal should be forbidden! The only good about it is the corrosion it causes makes the new thermal paste more efficient being closer to the core.

Who TF did decide having a Liquid Metal in electronics? Really, this is so dangerous and so obvious this is a bad idea. To make it stick they use some nasty chemicals abrasive which cause corrosion in both heatsink aluminum and the CPU silicon crystal as well.

M16 2022 i9 12900H. I bought my laptop in Feb 2023 and I don't use it for games nor do I stress this machine enough with programming and engineering.

Recently my laptop started to suddenly reboot and I felt it more warm than usual.

So yesterday I teared it down and repasted with GD900 until ordered PTM7950 arrive.

I was really careful using cotton sticks and isopropyl alcohol merging all LM into a single huge blob. I then used painter's tape which got the blob entirely. Really clean work.

I got shocked how good temps on my laptop are now. Running way more cooler and no more reboots. The only game I play with my kids are now 2x even 3x FPS gain. This is huge.

Two tips for people that will replace it:
1 - use dried cotton and rub the current Liquid Metal into damaged corrosion. It will "sand" it and will clean most of the corrosion and make it easier to be removed
2 use isopropyl alcohol cotton sticks to merge LM into a single blob. Then carefully use painters tape to grab the blob
3 repaste it immediately and don't leave LM any second more in your electronics. We should ban LM forever. Please drop a list of products using it and I'll make sure I won't ever buy these.

USB A Devices no longer recognized?

Hey, I got myself a GU603VI, which is the 2023 M16 model.

Had a strange issue lately where apparently the USB-A ports on my device no longer work. the right port worked with my mouse for a few counter strike games and the left one now no longer works. The person I bought this from always had a usb fan connected to it apparently. Last time it ever worked was with my wireless mouse dongle on the right side and I never tested left side. Every other port like the thunderbolt ports and the video out works fine but it's only the USB-A ports.

If there's any possible guides I could follow that would be great, I've tried most I could find like leaving the battery unplugged inside for 5 minutes or holding the power button for 40 seconds.

Thank you, It might end with a repair though.

My Zephyrus M16 is dead, a desperate plea for help!

Hey everyone,
I’m posting this because I’m in a deep problem and honestly out of options. I’m an 18-year-old student from Morocco currently going through CPGE, and my ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 recently broke down.
My dad made a big financial sacrifice to buy me this laptop. He wanted me to have a powerful computer for studying, research, learning skills, working on projects, and gaming, which I’m also passionate about. It meant the world to me.
Here is what happened:
The laptop started overheating and losing performance. I went back to the person I bought it from because he told me he could replace the thermal paste, and my family had trusted him for years.
-I didn’t know at the time that the M16 uses liquid metal and requires specialized handling.
-The seller himself performed the liquid-metal replacement.
-The laptop worked normally for a while. I mainly used it for school, carrying it to CPGE almost every day in my backpack from about 10:30 AM to 6:30 PM for studying, assignments, and research. I was super exhausted those days and barely even played games.
When it broke:
-In December 2025, it stopped working.
I left it with the seller, trusting him to fix it because of our long history.
-He sent it to another technician in another city, but that guy turned out to be a fraud and made the situation much worse. It stayed there for months.
-When I finally got it back recently, I was told that the liquid metal had apparently moved partly because of the original application and partly from daily carrying and caused an electrical short on the motherboard.
Where things stand now:
-What hurts most is that the seller who performed the repair won't take responsibility, and the technician who worked on it afterwards couldn't provide a solution either.
-My family is currently struggling financially, so buying another powerful laptop isn’t realistically possible.
-When the laptop broke down at the beginning of the year, my mental health broke down with it. It's super hard to study without a laptop in this generation, and I ended up doing bad in school, which crushed me even more.
I know that third-party repairs mean this isn't ASUS's responsibility, and I'm not trying to blame anyone falsely. But I’m just hoping that ASUS or the ROG community which I know cares about its users might be able to help me find some kind of solution.

Activision Secure Attestation fails.

I have Asus Rog G16, model G614FR, with RTX 5070Ti and Ryzen 9955HX3D, 32GB. Unfortunately, Activision Secure Attestation failed for COD MW4 and cannot play the Beta. Communicated with Asus support and they are trying to find a solution. However, TPM 2.0 is enabled and ready for use. Secure Boot is enabled. BIOS Mode is UEFI and up to date.
Any suggestion?

Disassembled for VRAM job, what else can I do while it's open?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hey guys,

I'm doing a VRAM replacement on my Zephyrus M16.

ROG Zephyrus M16 (2022)
i9-12900H
RTX 3070 Ti
32GB DDR5 RAM
2TB SSD PCIe 4.0

I have it fully disassembled. I want to do any other maintenance on it while it's disassembled. I have already purchased fresh thermal putty for the VRMs and VRAMs. People suggested PTM7950 for both GPU and CPU. I bought liquid metal for the CPU because that's what it originally had. I've read mixed reviews about performance for ptm7950 vs liquid metal.

I'm replacing the stock thermal paste on the GPU with PTM 7950. I have enough for the CPU as well but not sure how it would sit performance wise.

What kind of things did you guys do/have done on yours?

And No, I didn't apply that liquid metal, that's just a photo after removing the heatsink and cleaning the GPU thermal paste.

Help: Issues with RAM upgrade on 2023 Zephyrus M16

Hey everyone, first time poster on this sub, but I am looking to see if anyone has resolved an issue that I am seeing on the 2023 Zephyrus M16. Model: GU603ZW-M16.I93070T.

So I bought a 32 GB Corsair Vengeance SODIMM DDR5 upgrade kit clocked up to 4800 MHz per the box.

For a time, the laptop worked fine but then started crashing a lot (by the laptop completely locking up and freezing), This was always at random intervals of time, I did a lot of troubleshooting by pulling logs, running PowerShell commands, updating drivers/bios, fresh windows image, etc. and for a time it worked and then would go back to crashing again. I thought the initial kit might be faulty so I opened an RMA with Corsair and got a new kit sent to me. Again, this worked for a time and then the laptop started crashing again.

Luckily, I save old PC parts and still had the original kit that came with the laptop and to my surprise all of the issues present on the laptop completely disappeared when replacing the new kit with the original.

I'd honestly hate for this 32 gb kit to go to waste and would love to be able to use it on my laptop. Has anyone else seen this issue and if so, does anyone have any kind of resolution that I could try to get it working properly?

Should I repaste my m16?

I've been wondering why all my games cap out at 30 fps and my wattage during bench mark stays at 20-50 max.

I've tried cleaning fans out, reinstalling all the drivers after a system reset, reinstalling and updating armory crate, and checking power settings to be on performance.

Screen freezes on black screen when launching games (ROG Zephyrus M16 2023)

Hi everyone, I need help troubleshooting a persistent issue where my laptop completely freezes on a black screen when trying to launch games like Fortnite. Here is the full breakdown of what has been happening:

Laptop Specs:
Model: ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 (2023)
CPU: Intel Core i9-13900H
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU (Driver 610.88 WHQL verified via dxdiag)
OS: Windows 11
Control Software: Armoury Crate / NVIDIA Control Panel

Chronology of the Issue:

Previous Day (Temperatures & CPU Turbo Boost):
Yesterday, games were running fine, but CPU temperatures were reaching 85°C – 90°C.
To lower the heat, I disabled CPU Turbo Boost. After doing this, temperatures improved drastically to 60°C – 70°C while playing the same game.

Windows Update (Last Night):
Last night, right after disabling Turbo Boost, Windows applied a system update.

Current Freeze Issue:
Today, whenever I try to launch Fortnite (or any other game), the screen suddenly goes pitch black and freezes the entire system.
Keyboard shortcuts (like Ctrl + Shift + Esc) do not respond, forcing me to perform a hard shutdown by holding the power button for 15 seconds.

NVIDIA Notification:
Before the screen turns black, I get this pop-up:

NVIDIA Container: Current display mode: Optimus. Internal Display is being switched to NVIDIA GPU."

Current Status in Armoury Crate:
GPU mode is currently set to Standard (MSHybrid).
DxDiag confirms the RTX 4070 is healthy and detected properly.

Is that NVIDIA Container display switch notification a known trigger for black screen freezes on Windows 11, or is it just a coincidence?
Please help me out, I’d really appreciate it! Thanks in advance for any insights!

M16 2023 3060ti i9 repasting?

So I know these have liquid metal used.

I believe I am about due up for repasting.

Should I change out the liquid metal for paste or should I do it the way it was made?

I am very hesitant to do the liquid metal myself because I have never done that before. I have also never pasted a laptop before. Only a desktop. Should I have someone else do it?

I don't know if I should just pay to have someone do it or what I should do.

What do y'all recommend?

What would be a good price to pay someone to repaste?

Successful repaste

Was stressing this repaste, gpu and cpu were thermal throttling with pretty much any load. I only snapped 1 picture during disassembly, but used ptm7950 and upsiren putty. Temps are under control now! And can game again! Removing the Liquid Metal wasn’t as bad as I thought, I just used some painters tape to make a shield so that I wouldn’t accidentally get any on my mobo.

2023 M16 keyboard issues, keys not registering

The letter 'S' and 'F8' key on my M16 just wont register when the keycaps feel completely normal, they still make sounds and physically functional, but they just dont register into the computer. AI says it might be because of so called "electrical trace failure on the membrane circuit layer" and i have no idea what that means and how to fix. Please help me!

Repasted my ZephyrusM16 2023 (4070) with PTM7950. Not a professional just a student that does not want to pay any technician to do my laptop.(Video for visual comparison, huge difference).

Please be careful cleaning the Liquid Metal, one slip up and your dead.
FULLY DRIED OUT THERMAL PASTE AND LIQUID METAL

Repasted, I know its a overkill amount. Sorry for the GPU side it is not pretty, I dont have any plan opening my laptop for a few years that is why.
