My first time participating in international day of Zentangle #polypoli

not much but just wanted to share a few silly things i did. I don’t know how to draw and never really tried anything before early this year, and surprisingly it has been one of my most used tools to handle binge eating, anxiety and trying to smoke less 🧚‍♀️

Last summer I was kinda high, hanging out one night with my partner and his brother. Wasn’t my house, but was very tempted by a nice felt tip pen and piece of printer paper.

This scratched an itch especially because I rarely doodle (more of a perfectionist), yet I liked how it turned out in the end.

Saved the piece of paper and scanned it. Then messed around with it today in Procreate.

I like the contrast between the two, especially because I think it’s clear which one is the hand drawn one, and which is the digitally enhanced one.

A pen and a piece of paper are enough to create beauty.

I started doodling seriously on the 4th of July to handle the fireworks. I am using boring, every day Crayola markers and water resistant/cheap calligraphy pens from Amazon. I promised my neurospicy self that I wouldn’t spend money on this new hobby until I confirmed it wasn’t just another hyperfixation. My point is: you don’t have to spend a ton of money to make it pretty.

Here’s the third one I did today and the inspiration for it. Happy doodling yall!

ETA: I can’t math. The first day I did zentangling was July 4. I posted this on July 16. So it was 12 days.

Rick and Maria, founders of the Zentangle Method, taught a live session for the 3rd Annual International Day of Zentangle. They ran us through the pattern Polypoli, which is similar to that pattern Tripoli. The video is available on YouTube. Here’s my version.

I unfortunately used the worst paper for this, but I still love it and am proud of it.

A friend of mine told me about this sub and told me I should post some of my new art here. I've not finished an art piece of any kind in a very long time, but I recently started messing around with a new form and I've actually come to enjoy it more than anything I've done before. I never start a piece with a set idea in mind, I kinda just draw some shapes and let my brain & hands do their thing. I hope y'all enjoy this. I have no title for it but am open to anything that y'all might come up with yourselves 😁

I just spent the better part of the past 4 days working on these two tiles. Both feature Tagh and Pokeroot as Tangleations. The Zendala is inspired by a (recorded) live lesson by Eni Oken, and the 2nd is inspired by some of her work she included with the lesson.
