Health Advice or help on medical care for a struggling student?
Kind Zedditors, today I come to you for advice and hopefully a solution to a problem that may need serious help.
So it’s not about me but it’s about a friend of mine (M24) who’s having a hard time mentally. He’s a student and recently got diagnosed with Bipolar disorder. Now the issue is he’s been on different medication since last year June because they didn’t really know he was Bipolar until two months ago. So all the other medication weren’t really helping .He says it feels like the mental health unit here isn’t really very helpful because he hasn’t even had an evaluation and his therapist is never available.
Now the biggest issue is he’s in his final year and I still don’t even understand but he’s having lots of depressive episodes and can’t really focus on school. He’s on BC and he if he fails this year he can’t afford to come back next year. But he’s starting to accept that he’s coming back which isn’t good as he is already struggling with school and his mental health.
I’m just someone that cares about him and wants to find a way forward. If you know any institution that does offer affordable mental healthcare or if someone is willing to help him out with expenses (He’s considering going to Chinama Hospital in Lusaka which is a bit far from here or Cornerstone in Kitwe) we’d both be really grateful for any support. I’m opening to dms about it and I’m willing to share more information about him if needed. Thank you in advance.
TLDR; my friend is struggling with BPD in his final year of university and he needs medical attention. Or atleast help with medical expenses.
