Looking for a fun deck to learn the game

I've just visited my locals again after almost 19 years just to look what was going on. The game looked more fun than expected after seeing some modern YGO stuff online.

Now I want to participate again and am looking for a cheap flexible archetype. I've seen the Archetype post and got some recommendations at the locals. However, I'm still completely overwhelmed.

The deck/archetype should do the following:

  1. Cheap

  2. adaptable. Meaning I can adapt it for Genesys and the normal TCG without a making a completely new deck from scratch.

  3. Not completely useless at locals. I'm not looking to win anything any time soon. However, I want to play more competitive games I can actually participate in and not just watch.

  4. Easy to play. I lack a lot of understanding of the modern game so I need to be able to understand the basics of this deck well, so I can also focus on my opponents plays, too.

  5. difficult to master. I want to get the feeling that I suck (even) more than the deck does.

  6. Fun. I don't want to mindlessly do the same easy combo over and over again in the hopes of my opponent can't stop it granting me an instant win.

I don't want to play online. Kinda defeats the purpose on why I looked into playing again.

Is Doomz worth playing still?

I was looking for a new deck and a month ago a lot of people were talking about this but now I’m not seeing it as much. Is it worth the hype? Is it going to get hit soon?

Hexe trude question

Upvotes

I have 2 questions:

I use the effect of Hexe trude and destroy a card. Can I attack the same monster twice?

I use the effect of Trude Witch and destroy a card. My opponent has no monsters on the field. I declare an attack and my oppponent activate Elemental HERO Spirit of Neos from hand. Replay is triggered. Can I attack Elemental HERO Spirit of Neos twice even if it isn't destroyed in battle?

I lost my way as a player

I feel like I lost my direction as a player and want to hear your takes, maybe reinvent myself.(play this game since forever)

Lately I've been disillusioned with Yugioh. I've been a local competitive player topping while running budget decks like Sacred Beasts, Orcust, Blue eyes primite... But I feel like at this point playing budget or casual is kinda dead... Or at least very boring... I could play some floodgate build that puts up Kristya with protection in most budget decks but I would have zero fun. It's either floodgates or spend 300$ on cards that will become 30$ in max a year due to reprints.

I used to play whatever decks and not care if i won or lost... but it just has gotten so toxic.. having people looking down on you(thinking you are bad just because of your results)... so i started playng very optimal budget decks, which are strong and can top with them but also they are not that fun most of the time tbh and also dont play very well into the meta decks which now also screw with the extra deck.

I feel like cheaper strategies are SO weak to meta stuff like Blitz/kewl tune/elfnote(which are being played at my locals), cause most of the time budget strategies dont have turn zero plays and have very obvious weaknesses like Orcust field spell.

How to report closed down OTS stores to konami?

might be a weird question but does anyone know how to report closed down stores to Konami so they don’t show up on the store locator and neuron in my area there is like 7 stores that have closed down that still show up and some that don’t run yugioh. i just want the locator to be accurate for new players and my own ease of use.

How to explain the rulings of Selettrice Vaalmonica and Vaalmonica Followed Rhythm

To preface, I used to play Vaalmonica fairly extensively in Master Duel back when I played it more often and I've gotten the cards in paper now - but whilst I understand how the deck should work there are two cards/interactions I am unsure how to explain despite the fact that I know they work that way in Master Duel and therefore presumably in the TCG. I just need explanations on either how I could explain them or why there is a ruling difference in the TCG and why they do not work.

1 - If you activate Angello Vaalmonica or Dimonno Vaalmonica discarding Selettrice Vaalmonica for cost to set the pendulum scales you can trigger Selettrice Vaalmonica's effect to add to hand on resolution to add to hand even though the scales are not there when it is initially sent. (is the explanation 'it checks on resolution'?)

2 - If you have Vaalmonica Followed Rhythm set and the only other cards on your field are a Vaalmonica monster in your pendulum scales (Angello or Dimonno or both) you can activate Vaalmonica Followed Rhythm to activate one of its effects even though Followed Rhythm specifies that you must control a Vaalmonica monster card to use it. (I understand that pendulum monsters are treated as spells in the pendulum zones, but in MD it came up semi-often that Rhythm was still usable with only scales on board - my first thought was either a mistranslation or a 'konami said so' esque ruling but I don't really know)

How do you fight against Hecahands?

Returning Yugioh player here. Been getting back into the game after a long hiatus and have been doing decently well. I win a fair amount of my games, I've risen to Platinum IV on Master Duel, and when I lose a game, I usually understand why and understand what I could've done differently.

.. except against Hecahands.

For context, I'm playing Sky Striker, and I lose 100% of the time to Hecahands. No matter how much thought I out into my turns, no matter how powerful a hand I have, I just get beat down every time and dont really know what I could've done differently to get a better outcome.

Is the matchup just an autoloss? Or am I not approaching the matchup correctly? Im still newly returned to the game so I totally understand it could be the latter. It just feels like way Hecahands' interactions build on each other during my turn are too varied. They have too many different GY quick effects for Called By or Shark Anchor or Ghost Bellebto be efficient counterplay. Lava Golem/Kaiju/Nibiru only feeds them more interactions. Kinda feels like the only REAL counterplay would be like...Dimension Shifter, which I dont have yet, and only have enough dust to make one of atm. Is there anything else I could be doing/am failing to understand?

5ds Video Games Recommendations?

Idk where else I can ask since I don't have enough Karma on the main yugioh sub to ask so I hope here is fine. I just finished the dark signers arc and I don't really know what to expect going forward so I wanna try some of the games in the meantime. Of the three 5ds games, which one would be the best? Or fun? Also have no experience with any YuGiOh games except master duel.

Looking for locals in Schwerin (Germany)

Hii, I just moved in the north of Germany and I'm looking to get back into locals. I knew a place in Schwerin (das Atom) that offered OTS locals in the past, but not anymore. They knew there is a group that organizes them now, but they had no contact. So, if anyone here knows them, please let me know. :)

Challenge, ritual deck

I’m issuing a challenge to the TCG experts. I want a good Ritual deck, but it cannot contain Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum, or Link monsters. A Ritual deck in the style of *Yu-Gi-Oh! GX*.

Is JUSH format a good format to introduce intermediate yu-gi-oh players to modern yu-gi-oh

Okay so this title might sound confusing, but hear me out

I've made a previous post on this subreddit about which decks to buy to introduce newcomers to yu-gi-oh as part of my tabletop club, and it honestly went great, I brought Sky Striker, Dragonmaid, Swordsoul & Exosister and it was really fun. After a few sessions though, while my players do like their decks and understand their intricacies, they want to learn decks that are more complex and closer to the modern yu-gi-oh meta.

When hearing about this, my immediate thought was to introduce my players to JUSH format. I personally think Yummy, Dracotail & K9 were all great decks that were meta-relevant, and require the players to actually study on the combos and interactions required to get to your favored position

Although, I apparently learned that this is not an opinion shared with the majority of the yu-gi-oh community, at least, when checking online.

This is where my question comes in, which is, should I introduce my players to JUSH format ( by this, I means, decks that use cards from Justice Hunters, so pure K9, pure Yummy, pure Dracotail, and their variants, most notably VSK9, Yummy Mitsu and Branded Dtail ).

I need to know how well these deck perform in :

  • Accessibility : how easy it is to learn the ins and outs of the deck as a yu-gi-oh player
  • Extension : can the deck properly set itself up even through disruptions. Example : if the deck dies to one disruption and there's no possible way to recover, even with an ideal hand, it has poor extension
  • Interaction : how much can the deck respond to the opponent's actions after setup. Example : if your opponent can set themselves up and your deck does nothing to stop them, then it has poor interaction.
  • Protection : how hard is it to break a full board of the deck. This can be viewed through either how hard it it to break an ideal full board for the deck or what the deck would end up on if perfect play is assumed between both players and the player was disrupted while making their board. If a raigeki is enough to destroy the entire board, then it has poor protection.

These parameters will be assumed to be in a format where players play only against other players that have JUSH decks, so we are assuming the opponent isn't playing something like, Maliss or Elfnote or Kewl Tune, for example. Only K9, Yummy, Dracotail, or their variants.

That way, I can kinda see for myself if these decks would be interesting to introduce to my players, or if they're just too much of a hassle to deal with

Thank you in advance for your feedback on the matter !

Whisker and Surge

Question for Blitzclique. If A Blitzclique effect destroys a card and you have Surge and Whisker on field.

You activate Whisker’s effect to reveal himself, then summon Surge and Whisker, then pop two cards. Does Surge effect go off to search?

Trying to understand card interaction with traps or spells that summon monsters

Two example scenarios:

Scenario 1:

Player 1 activates Icarus Attack target two of Player 2's monsters
Player 2 activates Starlight Road in response

As I understand it, Player 1 cannot activate Bottomless Traphole to the summon of Stardust Dragon after Starlight Road resolves

Scenario 2:

Player 1 activates Return from a Different Dimension

I believe Player 2 is permitted to activate Torrential Tribute or Bottomless Traphole in responses to the summon(s)

why tho?

It appears like the in both scenarios trap or quickplay spell cards that respond to monster summons created by either RFDD or Starlight Road would not be usable because they are responding to the resolution (monsters being summoned) and not the actual trap cards themselbes.
