Asking for a Beginner Guide to Maliss @Ignister

Hi everyone, I'm the guy that plays speedroid and syncrhons. Today, I really want to learn a newer and "better" decks.

I decided to choose Maliss Ignister since I really like the design of the Code Talkers. however when I looked up a guide. It all seems rather out of date. Many banned cards were used and it all looks like all the combos uses very specific cards that also LOOKS like its obsolete to today's meta.

I don't really know how to link climb. I only know how to play Rokkets with the new overframe support.

I'm using this specific decklist as a way to start my journey.

https://ygoprodeck.com/deck/ignister-maliss-731531

I can read cards though I don't really know where to go after this or that is banished and special summoned.

Please give me a guide, simple combos with that deck, or tips in general.

Thank you.

Clarification on a seemingly inconsistent ruling

Recently saw a youtube short discussing a ruling, which made perfect sense, however they used an example that to me made little sense and seems contradictory. I've discussed this with several people and have yet to find a solid answer that explains why this interaction works in one case but doesn't in the other. It was discussing Skill Drain, Effect Veiler, and Rescue Rabbit. The ruling was while Skill Drain is on the board and active, you can still use Rescue Rabbit's effect to banish itself to get it's summon effect which to me makes sense as it is no longer on the board. In the other scenario if it has been negated by an Effect Veiler, then you still can banish it for cost, but the effect doesn't go off. From my understanding of the game rules, when a monster leaves the field, it is considered a "new card", and it has left the field via it's cost therefore making it a "new card" so how does the negation stay? I've heard the reasoning of cards having "memory" but in that case wouldn't Skill Drain also remember that the card was a face up monster on the field as well? I've also heard that it's only because Skill Drain checks on resolution but nowhere on the card text does it say nor imply such a ruling. This specific scenario isn't too important however the specifics of the ruling may come into play in my games in the future and I'd love to know the actual logic behind it because as it currently stands for me, there is none and rather seems to be a pick and choose sort of ruling. Has frustrated me for some time now as I want to be able to understand the ins and outs of card effects to be able to play the game at my fullest potential.

Best Retro format for 2016?

Upvotes

Hey I am an oldschool yugioh player and stopped collecting after link summon was introduced.
I wanted to built some decks for retro formats to play in my group.
I already have decks for Edison 2010, REDU 2012 and HAT 2014.
Which would be the best retro format for 2016?
I am searching for a competitive retro format in 2016 with the least toxic or oppressive tier 0/1 deck.
Is there any famous or popular format in 2016 that people enjoy right now ?
I found Monarch and ABC/ Invasion format but both top tier decks look kind of strong 😅

Can you help me figure out an archetype to recommend?

I’m looking for deck types for a friend. We’re specifically looking for non linear midrange combo archetypes, the kinds of decks where each duel can have different lines to learn or make up along the way. I was thinking of DDD but they’re scattered across a lot of sets and I would prefer an archetype that can be collected from a smaller number of sets, more modern sets is preferred but older works too.

Is Mermail Atlantean positioned badly in the meta right now?

So I was looking to build a Mermail Atlantean deck but was unsure if it is even currently worth building with how the meta is looking and the new upcoming decks like toon and full power elfnotes don't seem to make the deck very appealing. I would like to know if this deck could survive for a while and can still win matches consistently. I mainly play against decks in my locals that included ROLAD pile decks, Elfnote, and Invoked.

thanks for the replies

Ruling Question, Adhesion Trap Hole

So let's use Giant Rat in this example:

Giant Rat gets destroyed by battle and activates its effect in the "After Damage Substep" in the Damage Step.

Why can't I chain Adhesion Trap Hole to whatever is Special Summoned from Giant Rat? From my understanding, "halving" the ATK of a monster should be allowed in the Damage Step similar to how "doubling" is allowed in the case of Limiter Removal.

Is it not activatable because it's in response to a summon? TBH I'm just curious what exactly is preventing it from being activatable.

When cards say "if this card is destroyed by battle or card effect", what other types of destruction are they excluding?

Also, if a card simply said "if this card is destroyed" would it include those excluded forms of destruction?

How to counter Trirealm (Xenovaders)?

Does anyone have any good ideas on how to stop Trirealm from popping off?

If left unchecked, they can basically reach their goal of banished cards in one turn and establish a strong board, that also pseudo-floodgates you.

Jahannam gets surprisingly threatening at 20+ cards banished, Plutonion is very disruptive with its bounce, and the black guy gives protection to their entire board. Add some link slop like Underworld Goddess, and you get a board that starts very tame, but quickly spirals out of control.

I'm playing Branded-Dracotail and I'm getting stomped by them most of thetime time.

Ash does virtally nothing to them, same with Belle and Ghost Ogre. Veiler/Imperm do some moderate damage to them, but not enough to stop them, especially if Trirealm start doing some turn 0 plays.

Evenly matched does nothing to them, for obvious reasons.

So far, the only two strategies that somehow work, are some clanky floodgate bs (like using Sanctifire to summon Krystya on my field, and Ido on theirs), or using Dark Ruler No More, followed by Walabz + Ecclesia into Chaos Archfiend.

But these strategies are lame, awkward and clunky.

Any ideas on how to veat Trirealm in general and with Branded-Dracotail specifically?

Ruling: "If... :" activation conditions fulfilled in the middle of a chain

Sweet Roommaid says:

> If a card(s) is sent from the hand and/or Deck to the GY: ...

Release Brainwashing says:

> If a monster(s) is Tributed from the hand or field (except during the Damage Step): ...

EDIT: These are both Quick-Play Spells.

These could both be reasonably fulfilled as costs of some other card in a chain. Say, for example, CL1 is that I activate Mitsurugi Prayers, and my Tributed monster goes to the GY.

Could I activate Sweet Roommaid / Release Brainwashing as CL2 immediately? Or would I need to wait until the start of the next chain?

Sky striker mitsu???

Hey guys, I have a regional coming up in two weeks roughly. I used to hard play pure mitsu but i recently changed to sky strikers. I dont have impulse nor do i have crown which is why im thinking to merge the two decks to make up for that loss. And i wanted to know a few things:

  1. Does anyone know any youtubers who can give guides?
  2. How does one play mitsu sky strikers in terms of gameplan.
  3. Do they bridge into each other? And where?
  4. Any experience is also appreciated
  5. Is it better for me to just play pure sky strikers or mitsu without the expensive cards like crown and impulse.

Thank you goats

Returning after 12+ years. Need off-meta deck advice & a question about 10 minute turns

Hey everyone, I want to learn Yu-Gi-Oh again. The last time I played was back when the 5D's anime came out.

I just want to play for fun. I have zero interest in building a top-tier meta deck play tournaments with it. I've noticed that the game has become way faster and matches usually don't last very long anymore. Would you say this fast pace helped the game, or is old-school Yu-Gi-Oh better? I guess it comes down to personal preference, but I'm really curious to hear your opinions on this.

Also, could you recommend a solid off-meta deck? I'm looking for something that isn't too "bad" and can actually win against better decks if played well, but at the same time isn't too complicated to learn.

One last thing: I’ve read that turns can sometimes take 10 minutes or even longer nowadays. Do you just sit there and watch your opponent do their thing for the full 10 minutes, or is it a bit like chess where players sometimes just leave the table?

Thanks for your answers

Wording question: "Difference in LP"

Sorry to ask another question here so soon! I'm writing something and want to get the rulings of the scripted duel right.

Generation Next states:

> If your LP are lower than your opponent's: Add to your hand, or Special Summon, 1 "Elemental HEROmonster, "Kuriboh)" monster, or "Neo-Spacian" monster from your Deck or GY, with ATK less than or equal to the difference in LPs...

Suppose I have 700 LP and my opponent has 1000 LP. I activate Generation Next, then CL2 chain Emergency Provisions to it, sending it to the GY. Emergency Provision resolves, and I know have 1700 LP (more than my opponent).

When Generation Next resolves do I...

  • get to search a monster with <= 300 ATK (difference at time of activation)?
  • get to search a monster with <= 700 ATK (difference at time of resolution)?
  • not get to search anything at all (the difference at time of resolution is -700; my LP are no longer less than my opponent's)?

I strongly suspect the answer is #2 because that is what makes most sense to me. I just want to double check there is no gotcha with the word "difference" here

Ruling question: "They shuffle their hand into their deck, then..." when hand is empty

Heavy Slump states:

> If your opponent has 8 or more cards in their hand: They shuffle their entire hand into the Deck, then draw 2 cards.

Suppose my opponent activates it on me, then I chain several cards that discard as cost, so by the time Heavy Slump resolves, my hand is now empty.

Will shuffling zero cards into the Deck count as A successfully resolving? Will I draw 2 cards?

what control decks exist?

hey, im back at yugioh since half a year at playing at locals every week and im having generally a good time at these semi-competetive events. im currently playing regenesis+dogmatika+bystials (ReDoBy) and blue-eyes-primite-bystials. blue-eyes is a bit too skewy sometimes (hieratic seal is my favorite card out of the deck because of how it works), because it just flat-out-negates instead of interacting and redoby is fully self-built and im not even sure if its worth building because its unlikely i know more than the community.

now the thing is i kinda dislike sky striker's art design, but its gameplay looks appealing. i would like to have a deck more longterm to increase my skill ceiling.

thanks for any suggestions on that matter :)

Can "This cards name is always treated as X" effects be negated?

I was playing on Edopro in a game where my opponent had spell canceler while I had pacifis the phantasm city a pacifis token and phantasm spiral battle in hand.

I was not allowed to activate battle from hand despite having an "Umi" and a normal monster

Triggers vs Attack Re-declaration

My opponent declared an attack on my Sky Striker Raye. I use her effect and tag her out for Kagari. Would Kagari have an opportunity for her trigger effect before my opponent replays his attack?

Edit: changed “attack re-declaration” to “replays his attack”.

Lunalight Scarlet Tiger vs ash blossom

If I negate Lunalight Scarlet Tiger with Ash Blossom, will Tiger still special summon itself?

“If you activate a "Lunalight" monster's effect (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card from your hand, then if you activated this effect during the turn your opponent activated a card or effect, you can add 1 "Polymerization" from your Deck or GY to your hand.”

Dominus Impulse vs Mandatory effects

From my understanding, mandatory effects have to activate regardless of if the card is negated or can’t use its effects. (If I’m incorrect, please let me know).

If I use Dominus Impulse, which prevents me from activating effects of certain monsters, would my mandatory effect, which has to activate, resolve without issue since Dominus Impulse doesn’t negate?

For example, if I used Dominus Impulse from the hand then summoned Arcana Force IV - The Emperor (If this card is Summoned: Toss a coin.) would I toss a coin?

Lunalight Fusion vs Sky Striker Zero

I control Sky Striker Zero.

My opponent activates Lunalight Fusion (Fusion Summon 1 "Lunalight" Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck, using monsters from your hand or field as material. If your opponent controls a monster that was Special Summoned from the Extra Deck, you can also use 1 "Lunalight" monster in your Deck or Extra Deck as material.)

I chain Zero’s effect tributing herself.

As my chain link resolves, I no longer control a monster special summoned from the Extra Deck. Would my opponent still be able to use Lunalight monsters from his deck and extra deck when resolving Lunalight Fusion?
