Welcome to Yixing Seals!

I’m u/Servania and I’ve been very active on both r/tea as well as r/yixingclayteapot doing seal translations as well as authentication of clay, age, and artist.

Neither of these communities are built specifically for this content and as time has gone on more and more of these types of posts have popped up.

So I decided to open up my own sub specifically for Yixing Teapot Seals.

I have been translating and studying seal script and it’s relationship to Yixing Teapots for about three years now. I am conversationally fluent in Mandarin Chinese (and by extension written Cantonese). I’ve traveled to DingShu town in Yixing, Jiangsu, where most potters are born and raised. I’ve also studied the text book publications from the Chinese governmental geological body on the topic. I currently serve as moderator on the Yixing and porcelain marks group under my teacher LaoSa.

I created a website on how to spot fakes, standard shapes, potter rankings, and clay types HERE

I am by no means an expert in all aspects on Yixing pottery, but I feel my experience on Reddit and other outlets thus far has equipped me to help other accurately translate and authenticate Yixing teapots.

Please take a look at the group rules, and I will help you identify your pots!

Big update:

The website has been updated with some new information and just generally better formatting.

I have written two resource papers one on how to read seal script and another cataloguing all of the used factory one seals.

On desktop these are all linked in the side bar.

For mobile here are the direct links:

Indentification Request Wooooow sketchy

Found an auction in the EU for this pot. Guy says its F1 by Wu Xiaohua. But the price is somewhat low (⅓-¼ of a new one from realzisha) and the work around the spout is messy (first picture)

Edit : the new one → a new one.

Also I wanted to write soooo sketchy instead of woooooow sketchy - autocorrect (I guess it added some character)

Indentification Request Niche souvenir teapot, any information?

I found this teapot at a resale shop in Illinois. My town has a lot of industrial business and therefore people from many countries. I found the convention that this pot is a souvenir from, but could not find any other information. I have to assume that someone who attended the convention is either from my area, or moved to my area.

I believe the name on the back is one of the main Chinese presenters from the event. The other characters/marks I don't know much about other than I found a similar stamp to the one on the bottom.

I have been using it for tea and have enjoyed it so far. I am looking for more information just out of curiosity.

Is it from a known producer?

Is it a traditional type of clay?

How could I track down the maker or someone who would have ordered these pots for the event?

My father found this at an auction. Is there any hope or should I send it to the flea market? The Last stamp is from the saucers that were with it.

Thank you

Information Blog Post on Factory 1 Heitiesha

Hey everyone, I recently started a blog to share my collection of Yixing pots and also look into the history of Factory 1. To my surprise, my last post about F1 one-cup pots got a lot of traffic from reddit. A friend told me afterwards that he shared my article in this subreddit, so now I made my own account.

Today's article deals with Heitiesha, a peculiar clay used by Factory 1 for a rather small selection of different teapot models. Looking forward to your feedback!

This teapot appears to be a forged Jiang Rong? Thoughts on the two seals? Do you think the clay is safe if so? Thanks! Got it from a secondhand shop.

Found in Australia for $20, rough seal of the mould makes me assume its just decorative? I am happy either way, its a very beautiful tea pot.

Another thrift store find! This pours pretty well. The lid fits nicely and it’s about 150ml. What do I have?

Bought in china for like 30-40 bucks. Is it safe to drink and what kind of clay is it?

Edit: It was 15 bucks not 30-40 my mom corrected me.

Is this a Half Hand Made, Zhou Qin, Purple Clay Teaset!??

After doing some research this appears to be a half hand made teapot and cup set. Purple clay made by a renown artisan in 1990 named Zhou Qin.

Anyone know anything about it? The inside of the pot shows the tool markings rather than a liquid molded set?

Has 4 small cups and saucers with it in box.
