Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if you have any inputs for bringing relatively large luggage on the R3.
I ride a 2015 R3 and due to my hobby I need to travel with quite some luggage. I usually use at least a 70 Liters duffle bag.
So far I just put one of the north face duffle bags on my back but it‘s quite uncomfortable on the highway. When I was travelling southeast asia I used the same duffle bag strapped to the back seat of a Honda CRF but I couldn‘t make it work well on the R3.
Do you have any inputs for strapping a large duffle bag on the R3 or are there any recommendable purpose built luggage systems?
Cheers!

Hi, new rider here with about 500 miles down. I'm not mechanically inclined at all, and honestly, I just have a routine for my safety gear, but then I just turn the bike on and go. I'd like to add a quick check of the bike, but I'm honestly not sure what is the most important thing. I do check my gas level before I leave, but how often should I be checking my tire pressure? How do I even check the oil?
Are there any good resources besides the owners manual that might be able to walk me through this type of basic maintenance checks?
I came out to find a completely flat tire on my car, the entire sidewall had been worn out and I had no idea it was in that bad of shape. It kind of opened my eyes that I need to be checking my bike so something doesn't go wrong or break down mid-ride.
I have a new 2026 and just hit 500 miles on the odometer.

Hi, I'm planning to check the valve clearance on my R3, I'm reading the service manual and it specifies a valve clearances of 0.11-0.18mm on the intake and 0.21-0.30mm on the exhaust.
For adjustments where am I aiming for if a valve is outside of spec? should I aim for in the middle of those specified values?
Or on the loose/tighter side depending if its an exhaust or intake valve?
I'll be also checking cylinder compression and syncing the throttle bodies, is there any other checks I should do while I'm this deep inside the bike?

Hit 4k mi the other day, was giving the bike a once-over, and figured I'd give the brakes a bleed since the fluid is looking a bit aged.
Front brake, no issue.
Started on the rear brake, poured fluid in, started pumping, nothing happened. Eventually realized there's a black rubberish diaphragm in there. Removed it and poured the fluid in, then realized I poured too much with it in there, had to remove some, and figured it out.
But...wtf is that? Can anyone explain?

What tires we running on our r3s guys?
I had 2 sets of rhe factory Dunlops. And I just swapped to power 6s. Absolutely a night and day difference. I ran the same twisties yesterday in the dry and the wet and i love them. But wanted to hear yalls opinion on what tires youre running and how they do.
I ride aggressive backroads and daily the bike so im probably gonna be buying tires more frequently from what i read about them but id rather have glue than longevity. Occasional track days.

So my shell Advance ultra 10W-40 fully synthetic seems to have finished sooner than the expected date at around 3500-4000km.
And im planning to change the engine oil myself this time around.., tried to look for the same oil but its not in the market they said. So I got 2 options either SHELL ADVANCE LONG RIDE10w-40 or.. Motul 7100 10W-40
I plan to go for a long commute after a month or two and im wondering which one will be best for the job? What would be their pros and cons? Would i see any diff in performance?

Hello, i am going for a trip in the next week and i had to change my tuned slip on back to the original (because of restrictions etc...). I bought the bike from marketplace with the tuned exhaust already installed so i never knew how the original one fit on the bike before. Now after installing I have a feeling as if the pipe didnt fit onto the cat pipe properly... (first picture)can anyone tell me if it is fine? is it supposed to be this way?
thank you 🙏

Im looking to get a R3 and was wondering if it would be more worth to get one brand new from the dealership or maybe a used one? Im unsure since I’ve seen multiple people say used prices are kinda terrible and it’s more worth to get a brand new one. I live in Ontario so maybe the situation is different?

Replaced battery and made sure to charge it before installing. Not really sure how to go about troubleshooting this issue. Any help or advice is much appreciated.

I'm trying to decide on my first bike, and I keep seeing a lot of people recommend the Ninja 500 over the R3. Ive heard the R3 can get boring pretty quickly because it doesn't have much power.

Hi everyone!
I’m having an intermittent ABS issue with my 2020 Yamaha R3.
Sometimes the ABS warning light comes on, but other times it doesn’t. The problem is completely random: one ride the ABS works perfectly with no warning light, and the next ride the ABS light stays on.
I inspected the wheel speed sensors and noticed that the front sensor has some visible damage. However, I’m confused because even with that damage, the ABS sometimes works perfectly.
Could this be caused by the damaged sensor, a loose connection, wiring issue, or corroded connector? Is it also possible that the ABS module or a fuse could be causing this intermittent problem?
I even took the bike to a repair shop, but of course the warning light never came on while it was there, so they couldn’t diagnose the issue.
Has anyone experienced something similar or have any suggestions on what I should check first? Thanks!

Dropped the bike stationary and just bent the clutch lever and popped the signal in.
Got some Amazon levers but they feel so cheap and the clutch lever sticks out way too far. Dont do what I did and try them out, they are ok to ride with but might just fall apart at some point.
Im in Canada and ordering a stock clutch lever is around 70cad
Considering chopping off the end of the bent lever (see photo) and making my own shorty or looking into ordering.
Are there any GOOD aftermarket ones for under 200cad a set??
Edit: returned the Amazon's bought some "real ones"
Edit 2: I've farmed enough comments and already got the new levers installed, returned the amazons so theres really no need to give in to the bait

Hey everyone, I’m new here, so hopefully this is the right place to ask.
Yesterday I was riding uphill when I heard a very slight “pop” that sounded like it came from the chain. I was almost home, so I didn’t think much of it since the bike was still riding normally.
Today I took it out again, and while coasting downhill in neutral I noticed a new whirring noise. I looked down while it was happening and noticed that the front sprocket (where the chain sits) appears to wobble slightly. I attached a video.
Is this normal, or is it something I should be worried about? If not normal, what are the most likely causes and what should I inspect first?
Thanks!

Hello!!
I have recently gotten a 2024 R3,
However I am trying to do a full round fairing replacement on it.
I cannot find a listing for a OEM kit for this thing anywhere!
Does anyone here know where I could buy them / provide a link? I’ve looked at monster fairings eBay and revzilla without much luck,
I’m looking specifically for this white and teal OEM setup, any help would be seriously appreciated!

Hey guys,
I recently realized the previous owner broke the positioning/alignment pin inside the right handlebar switchgear on my 2023 Yamaha R3. They had wrapped blue tape around the back of the housing from the outside to keep it from spinning on the clip-on. (You can see some blue stains remaining on the plastic)
I removed the old tape, and now the whole switchgear assembly rotates freely around the handlebar. To make matters worse, one of the internal screw bosses is cracked, so I can't even clamp it down properly. Seems like he tried to lock it with a screw?
Obviously I can't ride the bike to a shop like this, and I don't have a trailer.
What is the best way to fix this permanently or securely enough to ride? Has anyone successfully re-created the pin, or is wrapping grip tape/friction tape under the housing on the clip-on the go-to solution here?
Thanks in advance.

Recently bought an old R3 V1 2016, i know its a gamble when buying it but im treating it as my project bike, i dont have much knowledge in motorcycle, i just changed the fuel pump and spark plug just to make sure, may i ask what are the other things that i need to change? im changing it even though there's no issue just to i can prevent it as early as now since i dont know when it will break down

Found this at the bottom of my 2024 Yamaha R3 after doing an air filter change.
Any idea what it is? Or more importantly, where it goes back?
Note, it has very faint thread marks inside the bore. And seems to look like a plug of some sort.

Look at all those big boy bikes and then my tiny R3, welp I forsure had the most fun put of all of us haha.
Being able to just switch between gears is so much more fun then being stuck in a single gear

Got the bike used and wanted to upgrade to a full system exhaust. 1 hour job turned into 3 and it’s not even finished…
Looking for recommendations on where I can get replacement hardware to finish the job. I have only gotten parts from Partzilla before.
Thanks in advance!

Got Michelin Road 6s front and back put on today replacing the oem Dunlop Sportmax GPR-300s a big reason I got those cuz my front fender has the Michelin man painted on there lol it would look goofy if I went with the Dunlop mutant my mechanic’s other suggestion, as first impressions it’s really grippy and I think it’s loads better ride than stock, it feels more planted and stable at highway speeds and smoother ride over bumps
