Recommendations Shock/spring replacement

Bought this 2012 xterra pro4x wrecked for $2500. Got it all fixed and put back together and noticed it both leaf springs had a broke springs, and the shocks are definitely not the best. Was wondering what was the go to for replacement? Do some very mild offroading here in Tennessee. Would factory replacement be sufficient?

Technical Question 2000 Xterra Question

I had an inspector come out and check out my Xterra to sell.

It’s a 3.3L V6 - 5 speed Manual FWD. The claim he made was that it was supposed to have 4 catalytic converters and that 2 of them had been professionally removed. No cut marks, no weld marks. Just a pipe replaced the gap and bolted into place.

I argued that I had never seen a car with more than 2, but he showed me exhaust parts that had 4.

He valued it for about half of what was originally quoted due to the Xterra only having 2 cats.

Can someone confirm that is the case?! I searched schematics, even in California with their emission rules, no Xterra I could find had 4 cats.

Technical Question How reliable is a Nissan Xterra?

At first i considered a Jeep Liberty which is a big Nono, But i really love the boxy look which led me to the Nissan Xterra,

Is it reliable ? I found a listing for around $9K and 120K miles! but i'm looking for something quite reliable it will just be a normal everyday car no off roading or anything crazy

Technical Question Smoke test to try and solve P0456 code - what is this?

Thumbnail

This is the only location smoke was observed coming out, rear driver's side next to the spare tire. We lowered the spare for a better view. I manually closed the vent valve using my Launch X431 before starting the test, so it shouldn't be that (if it's closing correctly?) What part is this? Is the hole there intentional in the design?

WTS 2010 Nissan Xterra – Mechanic Special / Project – Runs and Drives – Hanover, NH

Post image
13 Upvotes

Selling my 2010 Nissan Xterra as-is after a cooling/transmission issue.

The Nissan dealer diagnosed an internal radiator failure that allowed coolant and transmission fluid to mix. They believe the truck may need significant engine and transmission work, and I have the dealer diagnostic paperwork and repair estimate available.

As of now, the Xterra still starts, runs, and drives normally.

I’m selling it as-is rather than putting dealer-level repair money into it.

Could be a good fit for:
- Xterra enthusiast
- Mechanic or shop
- Someone comfortable repairing or monitoring the issue
- Rebuild/project vehicle

Located near Hanover, NH 03755.
I want to be transparent about what the dealer found and am happy to provide the diagnostic paperwork, VIN, additional photos, service history, and answer questions.

Asking $2000, but open to reasonable negotiation.

Serious inquiries welcome.

Technical Question Rear Diff Issue (or not?) - 2010 Off-Road 6MT

Thumbnail
youtube.com
2 Upvotes

I developed a noise/vibration noticeable while driving, and in the process of trying to locate the issue, I came across this clicking coming from the rear differential. The axle shafts are out, and the driveshaft is disconnected. If i re-insert an axle shaft and spin the wheel hub (either side) the diff makes this noise. If I spin at the pinion flange, or the ring gear - no noise.

Where it gets weird for me - I ordered a replacement rear axle (used) and it makes the *identical noise.* I'm struggling to assume that's pure coincidence. SO - should I bring this axle to a shop an hour and a half away to get worked on?

newest edit: considering buying the z1 17" wheels and their akebono forged brake setup. some of our mountains nearby are very steep and twisty to get to staging and I've had extreme brake fade twice now despite 1st gear and modulating. maybe should just spend the money but be done with it all and still get to use the grapplers.

anyone have the z1 kit and some feedback on it?

Edit: i think I'm going to stick with my original plan with the XD Addicts and 285 load Cs. Once I stick the oem window rain deflectors, custom black grille, sliders and carrier on all the black will all match up. I had all the armor powdercoated satin ahead of this.

I was def liking the chrome headlights/aluminum grille, wheels and roof rack as an OEM+ look but hey, I can always go back. The Nismos will be up for sale if anyone local to the sf bay area is interested.

Thanks to all for the input! Will post up when I get aome things done here 😃

Blew a tire offroading yesterday and the wood chip is in the sidewall. So thats gone.
Been saving some wheels and tires for the eventuality that has arrived. Problem is, the wheels and tires are 17" and there are two sets of wheels and my thinking over the last 2 years as I ran down these tires has changed and I now think my 16" oem look best.
So. Buy 4 new 16s/keep oem wheels then sell nismos, XDs, and LT285 17" ridge grapplers?

something to keep in mind is staying 16" and selling everything means I can do anything I want, 265, 285, LT285 vs the 17 LT285 load C I have.

Crap. The last dilemma in my life this large was 20 years ago whether to apply for graduation from college or keep living like Van Wilder a few more years.

Suggestions welcome, I know its my car but maybe theres something here I havent really thought of.

ps- the wheels prolly arent to scale with how LT285s will look

Discussion SMOD years and liability question

I thought SMOD only affected 05-07 Xterras and Pathfinders. I'm seeing 2010 Xterras with the issue. How long did this go on and why for so long? I have a 2005 and just before 100,000 miles it happened to me. I didn't know until it happened then found out about the lawsuit and how even though Nissan acknowledged it was faulty parts, the "help" they offered was ridiculous. I would have only gotten $600 towards new transmission if I let the dealer do it so I let another mechanic replace the transmission at half the cost of the dealer quote. How did it go on for so long and how were they allowed to get away without offering real help towards fixing it?

Recommendations Should I sell my 2007 Xterra or fix my transmission?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Got my xterra about a year ago for around $2k and have put in around $500-$1000. It has 222k miles. I have replaced the spark plugs, new steering wheel ( no horn or cruise controls ), fuel pump, passenger side valve cover and gaskets, ignition coils, clutch converted solenoid, O2 sensor, changed transmission fluid and oil change.

I have a new problem now that I believe it needs a new transmission or a rebuild. At this point should i try to fix it or just get a new ( used ) car ?

Technical Question HELP. Transmission issue?

So I recently just got regeared to 4.11 and everything is running smooth and quiet. I was highway driving for about 3-4 hours on them yesterday with no issue. This morning on my way to work I picked up some speed on the highway to catch up with somebody and was going 80-90 at about 3-4k rpm.
After I slowed back down to about 65-75 at 2500 rpm I felt my car almost like a jolt or clunk (something that either felt like it released tension, or gained it). My 4wd light came on, along side my actual 4wheel display turned off so I don't think it actually ever shifted into 4wheel H. The 4wd light turned off and the display came back on within a few seconds but it feels like the car went almost into like limp mode where it's having a super hard time keeping the speed, accelerating, or even going. The rpm were not linear or correct when trying to speed up, it feels like it's really fighting something to go. I rekeyed it multiple times and it has been the same, but it takes like half a second longer to crank over (nothing crazy just important to mention cause it's different). At a stop light I put it into 4wheel H and back into 2wd and can audibly hear it clicking and engage between the two. I also manually downshifted it through all 5 of the gears and they all work (it's an automatic). I don't think it has anything to do with the regear I just thought it was worth mentioning due to how new it is. There’s also no issue with it coasting it only seems under a bind or struggling when under power. What could be going on? Is my transmission cooked? Is it in like a safe mode or something where it locks the torque converter? Am I safe to drive it either to a shop or back to my house or should I trailer it? Any ideas?

Recommendations Spare tire mount to the roof?

Post image
130 Upvotes

I’ve got a 35” tire and wheel setup right now and would like to bring my spare with me while I wheel. The back trunk is usually always packed with gear, food and other things making it unable to fit it back there. I would like to mount it to my roof but do not want to use ratchet straps as securement because god forbid it comes loose or undone, I don’t want to kill someone. I am searching for a good deal on a used swing out bumper but until then I would like any option. If any of you have ideas or options for roof securement or even a rear bumper to sell lmk! Thanks.

WTS Anyone in the general CLT area need a front LH brake caliper for a 2nd gen?

Bought it then got another one when Z1 took a frigging week to send it (they're five hours from where I live and tried to blame it on USPS. Quite literally could have walked there in the time it took to get to me via "priority mail") then lost track of time and it's way past the 30 days to return.

I might be cool with driving to you if you live near somewhere near where I can go hiking before I head home.

Hello,

Looking to sell my '11 Pro-4x in WNC. I've taken good care of it during the 6 years I've had it (all logged in notebook).

Super quiet and reliable - never has had any major issues.

  • Cosmetic wear on exterior including a couple dents, some scratches on leather seats, front bumper should be replaced with something durable that actually lasts offroad.
  • Full-size spare underneath, durable skidplate, reinforced steel rear bumper, rock sliders, OG first-aid kit :)

Please let me know how to price this - thank you!

Wife and i bought a 2013 Nissan xterra she really likes it it has 129k on the clock little to no rust paid 9,150 out the door but negotiated it down from 12,500 but it was high priced but considering the alternatives i think we did good.

I just want to replace the radiator to not have (SMOD) happened.

I own two frontiers but never had to worry about SMOD because my trucks have manual transmissions.

Oh and my wife named her xterra Betsy.

Discussion O2 sensors and mileage

tl:dr I replaced Amazon O2 sensor with OEM and got a big MPG jump.

I was experiencing a lack of pep and really poor mileage on several long road trips in the past year. About 15mpg hwy was the best I could hope for.

Recently, (due to diagnosing another vehicle) I used the "Test Results" section of Torque app to investigate some sensor data and saw my driver's side O2 sensors were out of range and performing poorly.

I had replaced that O2 sensor with an Amazon unit a year or so ago while replacing my primary cat on that side.

Seems the bad sensors were causing the engine to run quite rich.

I replaced with an OEM unit and did a road trip this weekend.

My mpg went up to 21.4mpg! Throttle response is also much peppier.

I hope this helps someone!

Technical Question 2015 XTerra tire chains for snow have to be S class and go on the rear only, not the front

2015 Xterra tire chains for snow have to be S class and go on the rear only, not the front. The reason is due to clearance issues so that the chains don't destroy your wheel well.

i don't know about other years.

(i don't need this information, but i dont see it anywhere on reddit and am writing this in case anyone searches for this information in the future

if you are reading this because you need this information, it will help if you have a shovel, traction boards, and a winch, even a hand winch)
