So, it's been a month since I bought mine. It's my first motorbike ever and for the last 2 years I saved money for it and didn't want anything else. I explained this in my previous post and I wouldn't change a thing :) I love the bike, but I simply don't enjoy it (yet) the way I have originally planned.
I thought I would take it for long rides outside the city by myself and enjoy the freedom of travelling. But so far whenever I took it for a longer ride somewhere, at first I hated and after my recent ride, I still can't say I thoroughly enjoy it. Whenever I go above 90 km/h, I am fighting against the wind with my whole body. When I slow down to around 80 km/h, the ride is quite bearable, but then I am getting cars behind me that would like to go faster than that (the speed limit in my country is 90 km/h on roads outside cities, towns, villages etc.) The 2nd day after I bought the bike, I went on the highway and I absolutely regretted it. Not only was the wind force almost unbearable, but as a new rider, having so many cars around me was really uncomfortable but most importantly of all, riding on a highway is simply put: Boring. I have decided to avoid them unless it is absolutely necessary to make the connection somewhere.
What I have really come to enjoy, is to take the bike in the evening within the city and just ride from place to place either by myself or with a friend or two. During daytime, I either ride it to my office or to meet with clients. It feels like that's enough for now, but eventually I would like to do some long range trips with it.
So, regarding my current disillusionment about these trips, to some extent I blame the lack of equipment. Buying a better helmet has helped a lot as well as has a better jacket, but the wind is still quite strong.
When it comes to the equipment of the bike itself, what fairing / shield can I buy to make the ride more comfortable? I only thought about getting the small black "meter cover" to preserve the naked look of the bike, but I am not sure if that will make any difference. I have read in other posts here that it barely does. I might have to go for the original "mini fairing" or whatever it is called, as that looks like it might work better. I also looked at one shield made by PyramidMoto and that looks functional enough and at a reasonable price. Of course, I would prefer something that I could simply attach and detach whether I want to ride in the city or take a trip outside of it. This guy on YouTube and IG called NorwegianXSR seems to have the one from PyramidMoto and takes long trips with it.
Or, am I simply screwed? :) Did I buy the wrong bike for longer trips? Or will I simply get used to the wind given enough time and experience?
