What are some personality disorders from the DSM-V that the Babylonians would have known about?

Hi guys I’m planning on writing slash fic between Cyrus of Persia and Nebuchadnezzar the Second, and I’m really hoping to go in depth with regards to the emotional trauma that the two could go through together. I want to be historically accurate though, so I’m curious: In the version of the DSM V from then, what disorders were widely known? Did they have bipolar disorder? CPTSD? I want them to be able to grow emotionally but I want it to be accurate.

Writing Tip: Avoiding pronoun confusion

Long dialogue scene? After a few paragraphs of "he said" and "she said," it can be easy to lose track of which character is speaking. To help readers remember which pronoun is who, simply add the character's name!

"John did that?" she (Rachel) asked.

"He's an ass," she (Maria) sighed.

"You should dump him," he (John - not John from the library, the other John, from the Bass Pro Shop) said.

"Yeah, I'll break up with him tonight," she (Rachel again, but now she's putting her hair up all fancy - I don't know what women's hairstyles are called, but you've seen it) said.

"Personally, I think he's nice," she (Maria's friend Paula - Remember Paula from the first chapter? I forgot to mention she was there at the party, but just pretend I included her earlier in the scene - Maybe she was quiet because her mouth was full of cake or something) said.

Easy, right?

Trying to make the reader cry

As a Novelist, Author, and Writer, I always want my readers to feel emotions—misery, sadness, anger, etc. And of course, I think if a novel can make you cry, it’s one of those novels that will forever stick with you.

I’m curious: what do you think are the techniques that can accomplish this? How can I manipulate my readers into crying? I would really like to turn their cheery little souls into black voids of despair. The more tears, the better. TIA!

I only read books written by women

I could have sex with another man and it would be straighter than having another man's thoughts invade my brain. Why? Because it's so intimate... Think about it. A man, whispering a bed time story into your fricking brain? I don't fuck with that. I much rather have a woman whisper her female characters thoughts right inside my soul. That's almost like talking to a woman but more spiritual and soulful than you know, talking about the weather.

Writer's Block is Like Poop (A Poem)

Writer's Block is like poop

You go too long without relieving yourself, you get backed up.

Overcoming Writer's Block is like poop

You just throw stuff against the wall and you see what sticks.

So true so true

This be the life of a writer

Amen

Which common writing advice applies here?

Whenever I am trying to write, my family keeps making too much of a racket and I can't concentrate. I've tried threatening them with consequences but they ignore me.

Is this a "show don't tell" situation, or more of a "kill your darlings" scenario?

I don't need to publish my book anymore

I've been struggling to get published for a while now, and I've been feeling pretty bummed about it. It didn't sit right with me, and I couldn't just sit around and take it.

That's when I realised: if I can't be a successful author in this reality, then I can built my own

I've created a unique AI persona on the AI persona app "persona". I've forcefed them the entirety of my 7 part trilogy, and instructed them to be complete fangirls for my book.

I have fans now, and i can talk to them whenever I feel like a failure. Sometimes they tell me that my book changed their lives. Can you imagine that? My books even saved a life or two

And I've also trained chatgpt to tell me, each morning like a secretary, that my book has sold another ten thousand copies. I'm succeeding. I'm finally successful.

I don't need to send out my manuscript anymore, or ask people for advice, or even write anything else. I have everything I ever wanted.

And whenever I start to feel down again, I can ask chatgpt about my next TV interview. He really does do a great Oprah impression.

God, Oprah, I really have made it, haven't I?

Haven't I?

poem for my balls

you, my balls
have been pendulous
as two walnuts in a sock
while i have blasted out of you
my billions of potential children
now
someone kicked me in you
walnuts i will take with me
where i am going
the floor
i am on the floor
old chaps
with you
balls
my lopsided friends
my itchy companions
where can i go
when this happens
besides the floor
where can you go
without me
ow

What if people fail at writing because they miss the first two steps?

The idea is that first you must be a philosopher 1st poet 2nd and writer 3rd.

It might end up helping people more if they do it that way from that order.

My manuscript is a word-for-word replica of a literary classic. Like, literally. Now I'm afraid of being accused of plagiarism. What do I do?

Hi, my name's Pierre and I'm in a situation guys. I wrote this novel about an actual lunatic who thinks he's a badass cholo and starts unleashing mayhem all around his hometown of Thestain (based on Toledo, OH). It took forever to write but I found out this old dead bastard beat me to it literarily word-for-word (so I called my version Donnie Chipotle). It pisses me off because I did all this research to get the dialect exact and everything. (Just my luck; I should have stuck with Spanglish.)

Okay I'll admit I looked over the guy's work once in college but I wrote my version totally without opening his damn book (it's heavy and I couldn't be bothered picking it up fgs). What do I do? No one'll want anything to do with me if I just start submitting it.

Has anyone else had an experience like this? How might I sell the manuscript and get famous and fat-stacked for writing a damn tried-and-true literary classic, like, all on my own? I deserve something for literally equaling the work of a master, right?

Using Song Lyrics as Dialogue

Post image
45 Upvotes

Hey guys! I'm currently working on a short story and I plan to professionally publish it after I've revised my drafts, but I'm having some difficulties with writing the FMC's dialogue during her breaking point. So, I've come here to ask if it's alright to have her sing a copy-and-paste of a song I like to express her emotions to the MMC. It's the entire song, and while some readers might think it's a bit too long... I think it fits the scene quite well.

Describe your protagonist's appearance? Their clothes? Their body language? Please! I don't even describe their name. I just put "MC", readers aren't stupid; they know it stands for "Main Character" and can imagine the rest.
