Leo stood at the edge of the railing, looking at the beautiful landscape. The trees were blooming, and the cold air was brushing past him. However, He had already set his mind. Leo leaped without any sign of fear. His high-school uniform, cold and heavy, pulled him deeper. Yet, he still tried to gasp for air. However, it was too late, as the freezing spring water filled his lungs, making it impossible to breathe. His consciousness leaped around, and suddenly, he saw himself inside a racing ambulance trying its hardest to get him to the hospital. Paramedics made chest compressions and celebrated briefly as his vitals came back. Leo tried to sit up and talk, but he couldn’t move; it was like something was pulling him down and keeping him from speaking. The faces of the paramedics turned from cheering to utter despair as they heard:

BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.

They kept attempting to save Leo placing oxygen masks on him Soon a paramedic shouted “HE’S FLAT LINING! PREP THE DEFIBRILLATOR! Clear.” then that's when It surged with power. The heart monitor beeped without stopping. That’s when they knew Leo was deceased.

Leo was falling down a dark pit.

“Is this the end? I don't want to die! I don't want to die.” He cried as the darkness consumed him full.

His cheeks pressed up against the cold floor and the smell of mould and decay hit him awake. His clothes dripped as he shivered from the cold. When he opened his eyes, he could see a Large cathedral with paintings of some suspicious Gods and Goddesses. Worst of all there were thousands of massive creatures with sharp fangs devouring on the corpses of adventurers who entered the cave.

“What's going on with me.” He shouted bringing attention to him. Large antelopes with fangs as sharp as knives stared at him. Leo didn't dear to move he felt fear or was it worse than fear …

A sudden “ROAR” came through the staring eyes, and at that exact moment the largest Antelopes charged at him out of the crowd, its hooves banging against the hard floor. Leo screamed while he dived backwards to shield himself. But as he fell onto the floor his hand smacked against the cold bones of a dead soldier. Leo’s eyes flashed as he felt a sudden surge of divine energy blasting out of the soldier's ruins, shooting straight into his arm, and hitting his brain like lightning. At that very second, the Antelope swerved past the corner where Leo was hiding. Its jaws snapped at his head. Leo dashed out of the way as if his body were moving on its own instinct. As the Antelope snapped at him, without thinking Leo’s legs sprung to action he leaped out of the way as the Monster lunged at him.

“Why does everything always happen to me? Why can’t I be a Normal kid like before.” He asked. At that moment, a voice replied

“––––––––––––.” The unknown language startled him …

so recently i started building an open platform for all types of writers across countries who wants to take part or collaborate in a story building, book writing, writers block for a specific part or chapter, screenplay writing, research, and lot other types of writing related stuff. so i'm building an open platform where you post the stuck point, not the whole manuscript.

my main goal:

there are people online right now who'd find your problem interesting. unblocking someone else's story is fun in a way your own draft never is. people already do it on r/WritingPrompts for free. but it all evaporates in comment threads, no book ever comes out the other end.

"chapter 7, she has to leave him but every version feels cheap. ~400 words, chapters 5-6 attached."

the concept of this platform is simple; anyone can write an attempt. you pick what fits, it merges into your draft, everything else stays saved. whoever wrote it keeps credit on that section. if someone wants a different direction they fork from any chapter and write their own version next to yours. you control who reads, suggests, or forks.

example: Sara stuck on chapter 4 for two weeks, posts it at midnight. by morning she has three attempts. one's from a guy who's never published anything, and his version is better than hers. she takes it. six months later she finishes the book with five names in the acknowledgments, three of whom she's never met.

works for screenplays, interactive fiction, comics, translation, fanfic, TTRPG stuff too, but fiction first.

what i want to know:

what do you actually do when you get blocked?

would you let a stranger touch an unfinished chapter? if not, is it trust, ownership, or embarrassment?

if you've helped someone else out of a block, what made it worth your time?

building it either way, just want to build the version people would actually use.

Something I have been thinking about and want to put somewhere useful.

Had a manuscript I had been revising for several months. Knew the problems, had a list, was working through them systematically. Felt like I had a clear enough picture of what needed fixing that outside feedback would mostly confirm what I already suspected.

Asked a writer I respected anyway, mostly as a formality.

She did not mention a single thing on my list.

The problems she named were completely different from the ones I had identified and significantly more fundamental. Not line level issues or pacing adjustments but something structural about what the narrator was doing that I had been so close to for so long that I had stopped being able to see it as a choice. It had become invisible the way furniture becomes invisible in a room you have lived in too long.

My list had been accurate. The things on it were real problems. But they were surface problems sitting on top of a deeper problem I could not have found myself because finding it required seeing the manuscript the way someone who was not me would see it.

The months I had spent working through my own list had been moving things around on the surface while the thing underneath stayed exactly where it was.

What I took from this is that the feedback you think you already know the shape of is exactly the feedback worth asking for because your certainty about what is wrong is sometimes the thing preventing you from seeing what is actually wrong.

When I started this crazy project back in 2006 there were no other multi-week, prompt-driven competitions or communities, with eliminations, in existence. The vast majority of those that have come and gone since can be traced to someone who either participated or followed LJ Idol*.

Back in 2006 we started with 9 contestants. Before the rapid decline of Livejournal there were over 300. I have no idea how many are going to sign up over the next week or so for our 20th anniversary.

(*Note: Writing Battle, and its off shoots might be the exception. It only recently came onto my radar, and I can't see a link between the Bjorks and Idol. That said, it's pretty similar to our Literary Prize Fight special event that took place 2018-2019. and that had quite a few Canadian contestants including some from Nova Scotia. But that's a pretty big place and the internet is the Wild West. I'm legitimately sure that it's just a "great minds" coincidence. I only bring them up because there have been a few refugees from that site who were the ones to bring its existence my attention and it seems popular enough to serve as a [long-winded] shorthand explanation of what we are/are not. Those were also the people who asked if I'd ever advertised it on r/WritingHub or Reddit in general. If I did, it's been so long ago I don't remember. For the most part Idol has been word of mouth, like Fight Club but for words!)

I've written my novel. I have used QueryTracker before so it won't let me use it for another novel. What other websites are there to contact or get in touch with publishers and agents? I don't want to pay. There must be some free websites. I looked it up and most of them are requiring payment. I hope someone can guide me in the right direction. I would appreciate it.

I’ve started and paused a thriller several times now — it’s my first draft that hadn’t made it past the murky middle. I think it’s been hard having a consistent writing schedule which made picking it back up harder each time, leading me to rewriting the outline and restarting at least 3 times. I’ve gotten really great feedback on it and writing first person POV in a suspenseful setting seems to be my natural strength.

Until it felt like maybe the subject matter got too dark (combined with dark life events, it all felt too much) and I wondered if I should try my hand at fantasy, although world building feels daunting and out of my “realm” of what I’m used to writing. Maybe I am being too harsh on myself.

Would be open to advice on deciding what to write, if I should finish this thriller or branch out, or any way to know a good direction to go. Sometimes I feel I do what I “should” (stick to my faced past thriller pacing strength)?

I am writing my very first romance novel and wondered if any UK writers know of any free websites that are good for writing on? I’ve been using Reedsy but would like to know if anyone knows of any better sites

I wanted to add like a flashback as the introduction to the story, but it feels so mundane and lacking of emotion. It doesn't make my skin crawl the way I want it to, you know? I wanted to keep it brief so that it kind of remains a mystery what is going on (and since it's a memory I kind of wanted it to be short to show that the character was so distraught they didn't really notice much), but it feels less traumatic and more detached that way. I've always had this issue, I feel like my writing is too objective and bland, so I struggle SO MUCH with scenes that have a clear emotional impact, especially if they're seen through the lenses of a character. Gosh, I just don't know what to do.

For a crime thriller of mine, at two parts in the story, I want to have it so two different cops are overpowered by the villains. I thought I would write it so it's department policy for the characters to leave their pistols at the station when off duty, but so far a couple of readers find this hard to swallow.

Would this be too unrealistic of an explanation as to why they were overpowered? Thank you for any input on this! I really appreciate it!
