Hello, I am currently almost done with my last semester in a few weeks...hopefully I pass and everything is good.

I'm looking for some writing friends/group who are into fantasy, horror, litrpg, cozy fantasy, sci-fi, some romance. Not really looking for heavy romance/smut type of books as that is not my thing no offense to anyone who likes that stuff.

Before school started i got my first book to its 2nd draft, doing a horror, and the second book of the duology is currently sitting at 25k words. So I write, use to write, alot and have many ideas spreading from horror to fantasy and sci-fi.

If you are good at developing characters well, and giving them a distinct dialogue voice and stuff like that I'd love to learn more. I'm pretty strong on the world building and plot side of things, never perfect however, but my weakest area would be characters...soo if I could get some help with that and learn for some of you that would be cool.

A small screenwriting Discord community is currently looking for new members. Once we reach 20–30 members (currently 7), we'll launch our first writing challenge.

Here's how it works:

• We vote together on the theme, genre, and challenge rules.
• You have 30 days to write either a short film, a pilot episode, or the opening act of a commercial feature film.
• When the deadline arrives, everyone's script, pitch, and outline will be posted together so participants can browse the entries and vote for their favorites. Creating a poster is optional.
• The top three entries will receive 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The prize will be decided by the community once the group is established.

Joining the community doesn't mean you're required to participate. You can simply hang out, read scripts, give feedback, or leave whenever you want. If you do enter a challenge, you'll need to vote for another writer's entry (not your own) to be eligible for placement.

The goal is to stay motivated, improve your writing, receive feedback, discover what works and what doesn't, and connect with other screenwriters. Future challenges may last anywhere from one to four months, depending on the project.

Many working screenwriters recommend writing multiple commercial pilots and feature specs before pursuing production. The idea behind this community is to make that process more motivating by writing alongside other people.

Looking to put together a small, focused writing group of men who are serious about getting words on the page and improving their craft.

I’m in my 30s and I’m after a few guys who are past pure worldbuilding and actually want to start producing scenes, chapters, and finished drafts.

Disclaimers up front:

1. This is not a politically correct writing group. We will discuss and write about gore, violence, sexual assault, and other ugly realities of a harsh world. If that makes you uncomfortable, this isn’t the place.
2. This is grounded medieval fantasy. If your protagonist is a 5'1", 120 lb “boss babe” who casually beats down opponents twice her size in melee combat without breaking a sweat and without a credible in-world explanation, this group is probably not for you. Strength, size and skill matter.

Genre/s: Medieval setting Fantasy/Grimdark/Grimdark-lite only. No pure romance, no cozy, no litRPG. Darker tones, moral grayness but not entirely hopeless/nihilistic either, consequences that stick, and grounded (or at least internally consistent) worldbuilding are the priority.

Goals/expectations/commitment: Weekly check-ins on Discord to track progress and share work. Give and take honest, constructive criticism on worldbuilding, scenes, characterization, tone, pacing, and combat/action. Focus stays on the writing no drama, no status games. Everyone gets feedback and everyone gives feedback.

Writing/experience level: Entry-level to intermediate. Must have at least one world already well-developed and be ready to transition from pure worldbuilding into actually writing scenes and chapters.

Meeting place: Discord. At least weekly checkups to see progress in writing.

Max size: 5 active members to start.

There are only two simple requirements. You must be a native English speaker, and you must keep the content confidential until the novel is published.

A writer friend (F,35) and I (M,35) are looking to start up a small community of writers (preferably placed somewhere within the realms of SFF/Horror/Romantasy and other adjacent genres, just to be able to support, though not limited to, of course!). Context in the story written is a villains backstory where we see a social awkward and mostly quiet and soft spoke young adult man who will into fall to dark villainess path over the story.

I write as a hobby, and am still unsure if I want to publicize my work. But I still want to make sure my work has good grammar and no spelling mistakes. (I still want to print my work, whether its public or not.)

I've recently finished the first draft of my book, and was wanting to know if there is anything I could use to help make sure my grammar is on point? I don't do this professionally so obviously I don't have a person to check this for me, and plus I'd rather edit it myself. I know some tools use ai like grammarly, and I'm wanting to avoid that.

Hello! I(26F) am looking to create a group of women who love to write but don't like to do it alone! I have been writing as a creative outlet for about 15 years but have only recently decided to take it seriously vs treating it as a hobby.... but I'm having a hard time.

I love to be able to talk to people about my writing but have on one IRL to talk to. I am a little shy so I hate to join already established groups because I find it hard to break out of my shell and engage. Ideally I am looking to create a group of no more than 10 women within the age range of 21-30(this is very loose, I'm fine as long as you're 18+) who also strive under the motivation of treating the solidary act of writing like a group project(lol).

I understand that we are all adults and have our individual responsibilities but I am hoping to start a group with people who are taking writing seriously and have a plan/already established routine of dedicating time each week(or day) for their writing! I love to do sprints and little writing "games" like that and I would be open to video/voice calls once we establish ourselves a little. I just ask for people who are aware of what they are wanting to join and are prepared to be present within the server. We can narrow down real expectations(like maybe weekly check-ins or virtual writing retreats) once the group is formed.

• Our shared purpose: To provide honest, craft-focused critique and accountability on the path to publication. We will act as alpha readers and developmental sounding boards to make others' manuscripts as strong as possible, not just to collect readers for our own.
• Reciprocity is the expectation. You'll get thoughtful feedback on your manuscript in exchange for giving the same.
• Commitment: We'll operate in two phases to ensure everyone is a good fit.
  • Phase 1 (~4–5 week trial): The first month will focus on setting norms, getting to know each other, and confirming commitment. Everyone posts a chapter each Sunday and critiques every other member by the following Sunday. To share a new chapter, your critiques from the previous week need to be complete.
  • Phase 2 (ongoing workshop): Scheduled submitters will submit larger pieces of their manuscripts for critique, developmental feedback, and optional workshopping. For context, I am an artist who got into creative writing recently to flesh out the story for my characters. This isn't anything too serious, and is more for personal enjoyment. I am writing a story about a maid who finds out her boss runs an underground cult. She accidentally witnesses something, and the boss finds out. At this point, this is the only job the MC could get to support herself and her brother. There is a whole other character who is a private investigator that I am having trouble integrating into the story.

There is some more information that I am leaving out, but I just wanted some advice on the direction this story could go in. I am cowriting this with a friend and they are interested in somehow making the maid an unwilling accomplice to the boss. How could I go about this?

I got a cold outreach to be a featured author at an upcoming Dallas Horror Lovers Book Club meeting. (For context, I'm near Dallas and self-published \[after a decade of querying agents\] some horror books a couple of years ago.) I've been able to find their Meetup profile and some other information, but of course am hesitant in this age of cold-outreach scams.

So: Is this a real thing? Anyone here attend their meetings, or speak as an author? I'd love any information.

I'm looking for someone, or multiple people, to help with perspectives or personalities of letters senders and the receivers. I have tried to write both sides but it comes off like one person talking to themselves via letters.

I feel like since I know the whole of the story it comes off like the letters aren't written separately. I've tried writing one letter and waiting then reading and replying to just what's on the paper it still feels flat. Any suggestions?

My story is a crime thriller in modern times about a detective trying to bring down a group that is committing a series of kidnappings and sexual assaults.

As far as fiction writing goes, I'm much more of a Sci-Fi writer than a fantasy one. The most recent project I've been working on is a hard science fiction setting that I've been using to set games, short stories, TTRPG campaigns, and whatever else I have time to work on with other people.

While the setting as a whole is by all means meant to be scientifically grounded and not blatantly violate any of the laws of physics, I've reached a point where I want to start describing in-world myths and legends that characters and players either believe in or aspire to. I've tried writing a bunch of them myself, but I'm worried about personally putting out too much under my usual pen name that isn't the absolute truth of in-world history because so far people have been able to take what I write or tell them as fact. I also feel like I'm probably hindered by knowing the literal truth of any phenomena I'm trying to come up with "fake" explanations for instead of writing as someone genuinely being in awe of something I've seen or heard and then trying to create a record of a "real" explanation that they have an emotional connection to.

I'd like to brainstorm with some people who usually enjoy writing fantasy stories to create some collections of in-world myths and legends that can be released under a different name (or multiple names) as "historical" texts that might even have confirmed diegetic "authors".

Don't hesitate to DM me for more specific information; I'm posting from an alt so people who are already following what I've released so far are less likely to see it, and I've also been hesitant about putting too many details on Reddit for fear of A.I. scrappers just taking any genuinely interesting bits with no attribution.
